I wish we could vote to cancel certain users, like we vote on Jump series.
Nah. Stuff like downvotes on Reddit just creates massive echo chambers and kills discussion and makes people scared of saying unpopular opinions.

Just skip past their posts, you don’t have to engage.

Tensai Futsu Gakusha Raro Papuru no Hatsukoi by Yuta Kato: What a cool one shot, i totally not expected this, it is pretty much a romantic comedy but it doesn't feel like shounen, first, the scenario looks like 1950's Europe with the fashion, the first 2 pages start with a narration about how the main character called "Lalo Purple" or "Larry Purple" is this capable and perfect guy that never spend time with romance or other "silly" things, he only cares about his job hunting and exorcizing these creatures and never even shred a drop of sweat by doing it and the next page is him with a shocked face and all sweaty because he met this beautiful woman called Margaret that is just starting to work as his assistant and he falls in love with her at first sight, from here the one shot is all about him working, mainly in the street, as exorcist hunting the monsters (seems like regular people know these monsters), he's all cool doing it but in the moment Margaret appears he start to mess up things and go all sweaty specially when she gets super close to him, and she is pretty, the one shit is super funny lmao!

The artstyle looks so cool and refreshing but at the same it looks sooo not Shonen Jump that is hilarious to even see this in the main magazine, it feels like something you would see in a josei magazine, definitely not on WSJ but everything feels so well done, honestly this author feels ready to serialize something, his art looks perfectly well developed already, i would love to see this becoming a serialization just to see how such a not Shonen Jump manga would perform in the magazine, when i post the raw you guys will see how interesting looking this one shot is kkkk

Interesting.I really hope it gets translated, feels like a fun read.

Did you check the one shot he did previously on jump Giga 2025 autumn?

If not here is the post, alongside some other one shots made by authors who are a part of this new batch of one shots.

Alright, here are some of the one-shots I managed to find for some, not all, mind you, from some of the authors that will show up in this one-shot festival.

The only one translated is Amakaya Yumihiko's, which is most likely going to be the same one-shot, to be completely honest, if what we saw last year is any indication, especially with Rinjin Douji from Nagisa Ide(Just want to point that out for this one shot):

Now, for some of the others, starting with Yuta Kato, an author with some experience, but just like Yumihiko's one-shot, I have a pretty good guess that it might follow somewhat to his previous one-shot from last year in Jump Giga Autumn 2025, of course, I could be absolutely wrong here:

Kougyouchitai Yabai

As for Takahata Yuu, yelp, this is an author I was excited to see for some time now, as I am almost certain that he is or was an assistant for Spy x Family and the following oneshot of his, dated back to 2021, will prove it:

Vati Lipepe

For the likes of Mori Tomohiro, he previously did a one-shot in 2023 for Jump Giga Autumn 2023:

Menchika no Ansatsusha

As for the likes of Miya Ayumu, I unfortunately found little information about them online. Although I do suspect they might be using a different pen name and might be an author one of us may know of, but who knows, we would need to wait for the issue to see for ourselves.

Sounds a lot like the beginning of Sakamoto Days.

Speaking of which, I only just now noticed Lu stabbed someone in the first colour spread. I need to pay better attention to these things.

(Or is the blood supposed to be on the camera? Either way, hadn't seen her.)

May I say something about Kill Blue?

I'm watching the anime and I think it's not focused at all: he's a killer, he has a mission (I think?), but the thing he worries/struggles the most is... keeping up with maths? As a side joke, it could be great but it's too focused on this. The side joke of keeping up with modern young people is good as a side joke too, but we're hearing all the time ojisan thoughts and it lacks dynamics.

Maybe he has a goal (getting back to his old self) but all he's doing has very little link to what he's trying to achieving. IMHO.

It's a very laid back atmosphere, no bits/punch/dynamics, whatever. For this theme and genre, it's weird.

Maybe some of you wrote these points too on this forum when you were reading it, but that's what I'm feeling as an anime only watcher.
I‘d say this is why I dropped Kill Blue pretty fast. It felt like it tried to do too many things at once, and as a result, you have a lack of cohesiveness. If Kill Blue wanted to do something like that, it should’ve stuck to a central theme first and foremost. But it never did.

The series also never felt very confident in any of the things it tried to do. Making it feel less like a jack of all trades, and more of a victim of severe identity crisis.

Gachiakuta is an action series serialised in shonen magazine that has gotten a phenomenal anime by bones. It's extremely low in my opinion.
This isn't some literal who manga published in some kirara magazine.

It depends on context (One Piece only selling 20k in its first week would obviously be low and a complete disaster for example), but yeah, that's basically right. Shonen Jump is the most accessible manga magazine, and it's easier to see how the average Jump series does because most of them manage to do good enough to have numbers on something like Shoseki (plus more people keep track of Jump than other magazines, so there's more resources to find Jump sales). Newcomers to tracking manga performances have a warped perception to what the average manga in Japan does.

The reality is that most manga in Japan don't even make more than two or three days on the daily Shoseki before falling off. And honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if even that's too generous of a guess. If you told me the average manga in Japan doesn't even get a volume release unless there's huge demand for it, I'd believe it.

This is about Gachiakuta, right? 20k is on the lower end even for Magazine. What's worse is that it already got an anime so it' all downhill from here.
Why are we just lying now? That's almost top 5 in sales for Magazine right now and Magazine struggles to find new series that can make the weekly Shoseki rankings for multiple weeks, let alone sell 20k. Magazine isn't shitting out Blue Lock/Tokyo Revengers/Quintuplet level sellers like how Jump isn't shitting out Kaisen/Demon Slayer level boosts for their series once an anime comes out.

I really don't know why they keep saying they will return on some date just to delay it. They should simply say they will return when the chapter is done and announce on that same week. And on the other hand, they only announce the delays on Twitter, they should at least post an apology letter on digital WSJ and Jump Plus.

lol no, pretty much anything gets a volume release, it's rare for something to not get, even originals from the digital platforms.

Am I reading this right? KanoKari is a 30k seller? You’re telling me 5 seasons of anime, over 40 volumes, and it’s *just* a 30k seller? With that much going for it, you would expect it to be a 100k seller, but it’s at….30k???!!

Because of the war, they don't have enough naftha so it will becomming more and more like that (no tankobon if not enough success in digital).

Paper price is increasing, not enough naftha for the inks and plastics. Printing prices are skyrocketing for manga and goods.

I know, I'm printing in Japan. :emocat

Digital, digital. They didn't make an announce, like "sold 3 million in digital too" or something? (taking the number out of my oshiri)

Sometimes, I see annouces like "sold 2 million copies for 1-6 volumes" and I look at the title and... I f..... don't know what's this. Nobody is talking about it.

And you don't know if these "copies" are true tankobon or just chapters (5/tankobon?). It's very misleading to inflate numbers like that. For me, it's literally a scam, not marketing. They can do it because it's digital and they're talking about "copies", units sold. Of WHAT??? And all the copies printed but not sold, lol.

Anyway, we've already had this debate. I'm out of this. :datass

It's a romcom with with 9 years of serialization, still selling 30k+ in 4 weeks just in physical is really good, but the peak of the manga was from 2020 to 2022 when the 1st season aired:

YEARLY SHOSEKI TOP 500 (2020)

Rent a Girlfriend #14 (207,000)
Rent a Girlfriend #15 (200,500)
Rent a Girlfriend #16 (184,500)
Rent a Girlfriend #17 (172,000)
Rent a Girlfriend #18 (166,000)

YEARLY SHOSEKI TOP 500 (2021)

Rent a Girlfriend #19 (191,780)
Rent a Girlfriend #20 (174,960)
Rent a Girlfriend #21 (159,040)
Rent a Girlfriend #22 (140,800)
Rent a Girlfriend #23 (119,680)
Rent a Girlfriend #24 (84,000)

YEARLY SHOSEKI TOP 500 (2022)

Rent a Girlfriend #25 (169,910)
Rent a Girlfriend #26 (123,860)
Rent a Girlfriend #27 (113,200)
Rent a Girlfriend #28 (97,400)
Rent a Girlfriend #29 (65,400)

When you include digital the series was definitely selling a lot, but obviously it would eventually drop.

If you look at its sales chart over time you can see the immediate drop in sales following the infamous pool chapter.
