Except you made the argument about "disliked axed series that became popular" when I was talking about "axed series that I felt had potential and enjoyed more than the mangakas more successful work".

And bro, you were the one throwing around the word "objectively" unironically. I ain't spinning shit.
You didn't said you felt had potential or that you enjoyed more, you said "Sometimes an axed manga is better or at least had more potential than the series the mangaka later got success with", and i argued back.

But anyway, i don't want you to think i'm trying to personally fight you or anything, i'm just arguing lol

Maybe both?

How did he even make his manga interconnected to one another? The white haired kid from shudan is a minor character in his class monitor manga which is published by kodansha.
I love when mangaka do that. Tanaka does that too where all of his series are intertwined. Characters from both Hitomi no Catoblepas and Summer Time Rendering are in Ghost Fixers.

Okay, but I said nothing about "formerly disliked series". If I feel something is "better" I'm sharing my opinion, not an objective fact. I don't believe in objectivity when it comes to this topic.
And it's cool man, I respect you. I think we're both just passionate about how we feel, despite strongly disagreeing.

It really returned just 10 issues after, it was not a case of later revisionism it was just a case of fans for whatever reason not showing their support until it got axed and flooded Jump with complains about it so it returned like 2/3 months after, i'm talking about mangas that were disliked, axed and years after started to get claimed as a misunderstood masterpiece.
I’ve been learning about some old series from Jump as I have been following its history. Some series that you are describing and could fit in that range could be Araki with his past works like Cool Shock BT and Baoh. There was also some love later for Cyber Blue which was illustrated by Tetsuro Hara after he drew Fist of the North Star. Then we cannot forget about God Sider which yes it was cancelled but is talked about every now and then by certain authors if need be. Oh and a shoutout to Bomber Girl by Niwano. So there are many like you said, but depending on the authors in wanting to improve, add, or what not, even it could have gotten squeezed out of the magazine due to competition, reception, or editorial needing to value certain genres over the other to maintain a certain balance in the past to present with its readership.

Exactly. I mean Baoh’s OVA was in the pipeline because of Japan’s big economic boom in the 80’s before the bubble burst, and it showed a lot that could have been if Baoh had went longer. The other examples I gave were titles that got sequel’s or reimaginings by the same authors and artists or new ones that bring new life to them if loved or remembered. Not an easy thing to do back then, but thanks to the internet and passionate fans fans who take the time to research and share will make them live on forever (if some can survive without getting copyright claimed).

I’m about to go to sleep soon, but I will get to my list of 10 artists I want to see again soon. For some, I have no experience with, others I have learned through other means with other fans. The real challenge is bringing back these artists, but most importantly is the need to put in new blood and talent for a new generation, like how it was when Torishima did it back in the mid to late nineties.

Your initial argument wasn't about being disliked but only about being axed, Green Green Greens and MamaYuyu, for example, had a fanbase but were axed either way, meaning they had "no potential" if we follow your argument

I asked for a example of a early axed series that years later became a acclaimed series by the general public as a misunderstood masterpiece or something like that, a early axed series is axed because the general public disliked, that's something by default it's not needed to be spelled.

GGG & MamaYuyu were cases that had a niche fanbase, in the case of GGG a very niche online one, we know how that works, the fans will always be vocal online about how great these series were, but for the general Jump readers? i doubt GGG will be even remembered in the future with how little it sold.

General western Jump readers won't remember most cancelled series in general due to the fact that most general readers don't read every single series, let alone brand new series and tend to just hop on once a series is popular or gets an anime.
Those of us on this forum are a niche.

There's also the fact that Jump series getting consistently translated from chapter 1, let alone at all is only a more recent occurrence. Which makes past examples that much rarer to bring up given most Westerners can't read kanji or hiragana.

Black Clover final page editor note says to look forward for next Tabata work! Of course that doesn't mean he will return but just including the note is already a positive things, but i'm sure Tabata will take a long break after Black Clover, and he is only 41, he has plenty of time, i really would love to see him returning to Shonen Jump, if Sorachi can do with 46 after 15 years of Gintama, so can Tabata too lol

Btw, i wonder when Horikoshi will start his next series that he said to be already working on it, Saito must be praying for all gods for that to happen as fast as possible lol

I also wonder when Gotoge and Furudate are gonna come back.

I know Gotoge said she wants to do a sci-fi series, that could be cool.
I hope Furudate comes with an edgy dark fantasy battle manga.

But you specifically countered us bringing up David and GGG with their reception on this forum.
I honestly couldn't tell you about cult hits from the Japanese perspective.

You simply mentioned David and i said that the series was already liked in Forums, when i say Forums i'm saying mostly Jp ones 👍

If you were mentioning western ones so i misunderstood your comment.

I wonder if we are going to see the one shot of this week's issue. Mostly just curious based on what shinuki spoke about it recently.

Issue #22-23 Votes

1. Kagurabachi #120

Insane action. It feels like Hokazono has recovered art-wise. I'm not going to act like I know a lot about it but the art felt very good this chapter lol. Ariu is a monster power wise, seeing them all try ANYTHING to damage him very entertaining. Don't got much more to say. Fantastic action with a lot of cool moments and art. (Also I don't get the critism the anime TEASER got it looks beautiful af)

2. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi #90
Kiyoshi is one of the few New Gen Manga which can use standard shonen tropes without being boring. Helze Mama is adorable and her interactions with the Helze Family are neat! She adds more to the "Love & Peace" theme this arc is going for and seeing Bobo make his ultimate decision was very good! I was scared that the entire conflict would end just like that lmao. Bobo's final form is so cool. I love this series man (also Asuta Roth in the background of the wedding was funny).

3. Witch Watch #245
There is something special in the way Shinohara draws action. I don't really care for the Kanshi fight but the huge water monster looks sick! The 2nd half of the chapter was much better. Keigo & Wolf (+ Nemu) have always been my favorite part of the series and this was very well done! A very satysfying conclusion to Keigo & Wolf's growth and a cool "reward" with the new form for Wolf.

4. Ichi The Witch #80
This chapter could have been my chapter of the week if it weren't for the 2nd half lol. The flashback was very cute. My mind was so on the cute new Majik that I forgot how obv it was that Fujimine would ruin everything lmao. Now about the traitor part. I don't think it is as simple as that? If we look at her eyes we can see that they are fully blacked out now so I would guess that Fujimine is controlling her? Possibly with the Toxiterror Majik somehow? I don't know. (At least I hope I am right with this)

5. Roku's House of Oddities #4
I LOVE THIS SERIES. Akari and Sachiko's talk about manga was so cute. The "that was so much fuuuuun" page was funny and cute at the same time. Sachiko bringing Akari the Umbrella was soooo cute and heartfelt. That could have been the chapter and it would already be great. Sachiko's "reason" being tied to school is interesting and I can't wait for each curse to get some sad flashback. Now looking back at it I should have placed this chapter at 2 or 3 lol.
Also giving each curse their own chapter (if we continue with the other 3 now) was the best decision the author could have done. Please survive!

You can't objectively argue that a flopped 24 chapters manga was better or had more potential than a worldwide successful 400 chapters one because objectivity doesn't exist when it comes to taste. One's opinion on potential and quality is based on taste.

And I mean, I wouldn't argue that for Wicked Cupid by any means, but it also isn't a bad series either. It veers off into some pretty interesting mystery horror stuff as it goes on, and the core romance is cute as hell. If someone believed that and could articulate their argument, I'd accept it as a valid opinion. Even if I disagree.

You're getting so heated over opinions bro, c'mon. You can disagree without getting all pretentious and rude about it.
I think most people conflate “sales=quality” by a lot. Sales are simply a metric for success. Sure, high-selling numbers could signify a level of quality, but there’s no one-size-fits-all metric to determine “quality”. Popular works aren’t necessarily “high-quality”, it just simply means there’s something in there that attracts people. But as you said, that’s up to people‘s tastes. So yes, “quality” is very subjective. (There are very rare exceptions, though)

Need I remind everyone that one of the most popular works of all time is freakin’ Twilight?

I also wonder when Gotoge and Furudate are gonna come back.

I know Gotoge said she wants to do a sci-fi series, that could be cool.
I’m actually wondering if she‘ll do a western fantasy this time. Her fanart of Saber got me thinking.

Tbh I hope not. The market is so oversaturated with western influenced fantasy series rn.
And I've never found Gotoge to be that strong or unique of a writer tbh. I'd like to see her unique art-style go to a genre that she could at least fill a niche in.
I also wouldn't be against her simply doing the art for a series, but given how insanely popular Kimetsu was, I doubt that'll happen for her next Jump series.

I think this is the first time I've woken up to 3+ new pages of posts and it wasn't about a new announcement. This is easily in the top 5 silliest arguments I've seen since joining.
