Large ask concerning the game has far evolved from where the manga ever did.
  • The TCG has become more confusing than ever.
  • It’s also slowly losing popularity.
  • They don’t seem to know what to do with the anime now that it's off Studio Gallop hands.
  • Konami Animation needs to bring more attention to their new studio
What better time to remake the anime?

Who would have the rights to the manga now anyway? Since the author died a few years back.

I know there's been some complications with DBZ since Toriyama died.

I mean, I can see why people are annoyed over the amnesia plot, but I'm also seeing people genuinely angry at Aira and Jiji for daring to act on their feelings, genuinely angry at Okarun for being conflicted during such a difficult situation with Momo's amnesia. Like, it all feels pretty real for a situation like this. The characters are complex and people don't like that.
People hate complex characters acting realistically. They just want to see the characters acting idealistically, never a show of weakness or flaws that make them interesting & human

Many such examples in jump

I won't say who i was referring to. The thread will get into another 10 pages of arguments.

The point of the anime is to advertise the card game. Even the Remasters are used to promote the game. The next set is Beyond the Brave, and it has Destiny Hero support because the remaster is going to be on Edo's duel with Judai where he debuts his Destiny Heroes when the set releases. Chaos Origins had Sacred Beast support and I assume the set came out when the remaster got to the Kagemaru duel.

The TCG is losing popularity because Konami NA is a garbage branch who intentionally screw over sealed product by rarity bumping everything remotely meta in the OCG and have quality control issues up the ass, making it a loss for card shops to sell Yu-Gi-Oh!. The OCG has been doing perfectly fine until maybe last set when they started copying the TCG's greedy policy of making meta cards high rarity only, and even then it's still prbably fine for now with the introduction of Overframe cards. A remake of DM isn't fixing Konami pricing out the playerbase.

Konami knows exactly what they're doing with the anime. They introduced a new game, Rush Duel, and decided to make a show that appealed to Rush Duel's targeted audience, just like how Vrains was meant to advertise both Speed Duels (because Duel Links was new) and Master Rule 4 (even if MR4 is dogshit). The OCG shorts are something fans specifically asked for (they literally had a survey asking if people wanted to watch them and most people said yes). They're even starting to put actual effort into Master Duel's animated stories as shown with the I:P and S:P story. Also Gallop was a shitshow for Yu-Gi-Oh! since at least halfway through Arc-V when they had to do DSoD at the same time.

===

For Konami, a DM remake would accomplish literally none of the goals they would want an anime to achieve. If they don't change the decks to be more modern, they aren't going to sell any product off it because 99% of the cards in original DM are useless. No one new is going to enter the game because DM era YGO is nothing like current day YGO, and they already have Rush and Duel Links to serve as alt games meant to act as a bridge to the regular game. They already nostalgia pander the characters (literally the current series of core sets is the first series since like 2005, where the pack covers include anime characters) so no one has a chance to miss the characters enough to wish a remake exists to see them again. They aren't short on merch releases without an anime or anything.

The main people who want a DM remake are people that won't ever buy product. If they want to refresh the OCG and reach new players, they're better off just making a new original Master Rule series.

Hail Mary, but assuming Himaten ends before next batch, hopefully it saves Kinato from cancellation.

Amen

AH is 100% cancelled and Kinato is like 98% cancelled lol. Kinato’s first few chapters were so much fun too, what a shame. Its easier to read the remaining chapters if you just accept the series is already dead.

I agree on Kinato

I genuinely liked the start of it and now it is my least favourite of the three each week lol

Tbf the manga and the actual card game never shared the same rules beyond the most surface level.
The problem is the anime is selling a product that the actual game they want to sell no longer remotely represents, it's a hard sell.

The problem is trying to sell old as vanilla Yu-Gi-Oh.

Remaking the anime won't make the TCG less confusing or bring people in the game if they aren't using methods the game revolves around now.

They will just bait people with nostalgia retains like they been doing the past 2 years.

What do folks think will be the next classic reboot anime to be announced anyway? They're fairly regular (with Fist of the North Star ongoing right now) so no doubt there'll be more.

My guess is some older sports series will get a new anime. Not sure which, Tsubasa already got one and Prince of Tennis still has semi-regular seasons adapting the Jump SQ sequel.

Although personally I'd like to see a Ninku anime, the original anime only covered like 3 chapters of the manga then went off in its own direction, so it'd be cool to have a proper anime. The whole thing would be doable in 2 cour as well. It'll never happen because nobody's still thinking about Ninku in this day and age, but that's what I'd want.

The irony is, Naruto was inspired by Ninku, if I recall

Idk if it'll be next, but I think Bleach gets one in the nearish future in the style of the TYBW anime. The og anime is not as faithful to the manga as it could/should have been plus Kubo himself wants a remake (because he himself wasn't a big fan of the og anime either iirc lol). Probably after TYBW is finished, of course.

Other than that, idk....wasn't there some stir about Hitman Reborn getting a remake, or new anime, or something? Whatever happened to that lol.

What I think and what I would like is very different.

What I think is something like city hunter or cats eye (not the biggest anime guy though so I don’t know if they have one). I could also see an eyeshield 21, PoT or slam dunk too but sports is such a commitment.

What I would like would be Saikakage Ottojuuku (butchered the spelling lol), Neuro supernatural detective, sket dance, rookies, and Haruleya Boy.The main reason is they are great series that I’d like to have an English release.

I doubt Studio Pierrot would do a remake of a long running series anytime soon, it’s a huge investment. They got Black Clover to work on and whatever they want to do with Naruto franchise

I feel like some are reaaally underestimating how popular and beloved the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga & anime is in Japan and also around the world, just the presence of any OG character in something already gets more visibility than anything else from the franchise, also the tragic but heroic death of Takahashi Kazuki adds even more weight to remaking the original anime series with a faithful adaptation to Kazuki story, the appeal of the original series goes beyond selling some cards, fans like the story and characters, not just the card game, a faithful remake with modern animation would get way more traction than any modern YGO adaptation could do, and it would naturally bring old fans back and new ones to the card game too.

Shun Yabe with "Onmyo Donkan Massugu se Ima"

Without commenting on the quality of the work, I just wanna say I find it hilarious how this exorcist series has a guy that looks exactly like Gakuro. Maybe in a couple years he'll become the new Deku, but for exorcist mangaka.
