But holy shit if the harem aspect of the series is just downright appaling. The author is just adding more characters to the bowl with no rhyme or reason. You don't need these many characters to orbit around Gakuro.

Aside from Shiroha, these manga have the worst set of female characters.
"I believe you" just to proceed to prove my point, lmao.

You can just check the list of characters:

It's literally just the main girls and a few smaller characters, most of them from Suzaku family that showed "interest" in Gakuro, all the other female characters has nothing with him, i think the fact that these chapters of the Suzaku family happened all together with the women showing interest on him created this illusion that every girl loves Gakuro or something when isn't the case :grin

Okay so based off whats listed the girls who Like gakuro in that way is
Suo
Shiroha
Ishu
Natsuki
Tsujita
Machida
at the least

and again who dislikes gakuro that is a girl?

I was skimming the list & when I saw the last 2, I thought you were talking about mangaka that you wanna see get serialized soon until I actually read & saw it was for Nue...
My fault

And that's when the tables turn!
Let's start by saying that I didn't remember Kento was Suzuki's assistant (but whatever), idk how much influencial he is in reccos.

For UD: In addition to RED HOOD, Dear Anemone, and the third one I don't remember, Horikoshi also recommended Kagurabachi (3 times) and Ichi the Witch so... it's a good boost for UD

yeah both are sticking around for a while aren't they
Eh, not really, MamaYuyu got a recommendation from freaking Akutami Gege while JJK was still going on and it died with 29 chapters, what we can say with these recommendations and how Alien Headbutt got axed so ruthless is that the editorial at least expect something from these 2.

Btw, just how bad was Alien doing in the survey and everything else lol

Liking Gakuro in a romantic way it's Suo, Shiroha, Ishu, Natsuki, Tsujita & Machida and there's Koga that still needs to have any development in the manga but i do think it will happen since she is always included in the group.

The rest are either girls/women that has no connection or just friend/companion connections and few ones with a bit of a crush but these are mostly just C characters that are irrelevant to the plot. I don't know if by dislike you mean have something against Gakuro lol

Btw, both Under Doctor & Kinato's Magic getting recommendation and Nue still has nothing in 15 volumes 🤡

Yeah, I can understand editorial's decision to axe it, as much as I enjoyed Alien Headbutt.
It was way too unlike most of their series, feeling more suited for Jump + than the main magazine and even felt as though it was too similar to Chainsaw Man.

If Kinato got the recommendation from Suzuki, that means he’s not the one being cut (also because it comes before Alien Headbutt, so it doesn’t make much sense axe Alien before Kinato)

So… which two series are being dropped to make room for HAL Formula and Canon Master?

None, actually only 2 series was needed to end for 3 to start, if was 2 new series only Alien needed to end, and at the moment Jump is using its 21st spot for the 3rd series, at best we will see Hima or Blue Box ending soon since it's very possible that Hunter x Hunter is also returning in July so something would have to indeed end for that but i don't expect to be in 2 chapters or something, Hima is only halfway it's current volume, it need more chapters to fill (Could be wrong tho...)

I’m sorry but Gakuro’s harem and his relationships with the girls are just not that deep or note worthy… it’s just a basic harem full of cliches turn arounds to try and make every girl fall in love with him, like every other harem in existence. And yes I do agree that cast is now way too big, and it’s not necessary.

But— the manga can be highly entertaining at times and so is the action. The artwork is definitely great, some characters designs are above average, and the overall setting has definitely its own identity. I do believe it should be praised in what it actually excels at. Arc climaxes are also really good. And again, some panels are just jaw dropping, there’s a lot of effort put into some of them.

I wouldn’t call Nue’s exorcist’s story or characters in any way deep or as complicated as some of you try to make it out to be, but it’s definitely a fun story with really nothing that is straight up bad. It’s a nice read that I would recommend to some friends, that’s about it.

Nue's Exorcist cast size is pretty standard for the type of series it is, you have Gakuro the mc, Nue the center of everything related to the lore and has Gakuro master/big sister role so far, the girls are pretty well estabilished:

-Suo, Shiroha, Ishu, Natsuki & Machida are so far the main ones that are in love with Gakuro and all of them had full arcs developing their feelings and connection with Gakuro, far from anything shallow.

-Tsujita is running a bit behind the 5 main ones but is also well estabilished and Koga is the only one who really needs the spotlight in the future

-Shitotsu is Gakuro stepsister and it's not really pushed as a main interest, more like simply the sister role

-Gekka has no romantic relation to Gakuro, she is all conected to Nue and is now serving as Gakuro trainer.

Any girl outside these are either just minor side characters that are mostly for comedy/harem shenanigans. And outside the main cast are the villains, exorcists and normal humans. Seriously there's nothing complicated about this lol

Oh gee, I sure do love it when the female cast orbits around my wet cardboard of an MC for lousy reasons.
Crazy statement when Gakuro literally far from being a wet cardboard character and he is by far the most well developed character in the series.

Suou already insert herself in the bowl even before her story arc even began.

Ishu literally liked him just because (because they needed a childhood friend trope filling up a slot, that's why)

Natsuki liked him because he conveniently resemble the shitty beta protagonist in the book she read.

Meanwhile, every other girl has a variation of "omg he saved me, that pathetic boy is actually PrEtTy NiCe." Some are not even at a scale near heroic to even worth mentioning.
You just undermine the entire relationship.

Kazusa did have some crush for Gakuro because she genuinely thought he was adorable in both personality and appearance, she literally says so in the early chapters. But her feelings didn't really become truly romantic until the Ritual Blade arc, where she overcame her trauma of losing someone important and chose to put her trust in Gakuro.

Ishu likes him because he was the one who showed her his humanity. Tbh we still don't know the full story, but it's pretty clear she was in a bad state before she met him. She was quite selfish and want Gakuro to herself yet during Suzaku Arc, after getting know about Gakuro and others personally, she ended up wanting to sacrifice herself for Gakuro and everyone else.

Natsuki technically only developed a crush on him because he looks exactly like her favorite manga character, which is honestly pretty normal thing. That said, I wouldn't say she's deeply in love with him yet...

The only girl who genuinely fell in love with Gakuro because he saved her is Shiroha. The guy literally dragged her out of the hellhole that murdered her parents and abused her for years. Her feeling for him probably the most developed one among the main heroines.

Tsujita likes him because he's her type. Not because he was kind to her or saved her, but because he's the kind of guy who's unreliable yet reliable at the same time.

Machida likes him because she thinks he's cool and attractive plus their interaction with each other are quite developed. The two of them are also very similar, so you could say they're the same kind of person. Sometimes people are just attracted to someone who's a lot like themselves.

Sorry for the text and English isn't my first language.

Under Doctor Volume 1 is getting a recommendation from Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia) and Kinato's Magic Volume 1 is getting a recommendation from Yuto Suzuki (Sakamoto Days)

Both authors were former assistants from the respective series!

This is damn hilarious considering some people say UD looks like a Sakamoto Days copy, while people accused Kinato of being a Deku copy lol.

Turns out Amemiya is the former assistant of Sakamoto author, AND UD author is the former assistant of Horikoshi. LOOL. It is the other way around

From what I am seeing, Under Doctor's most likely selling 200K copies in a month.

It's a net negative when hori gives an obi to his assistant.
- Redhood
- ZIPMAN
- Dear Anemone
He's losing 3-0 on that scoreboard.
Meanwhile he has a 2-0 W when it isn't one of his own.
He did for Kagurabachi

Yeah I'd say Nue has a pretty typical core cast size for this point in the series.

A lot of battle shounen lean towards the male-by-default trend, where new characters are almost all male unless they fill a role that has to be female like a mother or love interest. Nue just is doing the opposite and making most new characters girls unless they need to be male for relationship reasons.

Another example is Centuria over on Jump+, most of the important characters in that series are female, even among the antagonists.

I read the new oneshot, about a boy who constantly draws ghosts to him finding a live-in job working for an exorcist family. It feels like a Yozakura/Roku set up, revolving around a family who all have weird quirks using comedy as the base but with room to become serious.

I'd say it was the 2nd best of these oneshots after Blood Marriage and I think it could be fun as a series, but changing the premise to be about literally anything besides exorcists. Keep the rest of the set-up the same, just using a different idea that's not so overdone.
