Hal Formula PV on Youtube has reached nearly 130k in just 8 days! 🏎

This is quite a fantastic performance for a new series by a non veteran, specially considering it's something as niche as a F1 series, this is the highest number of views for a new series by a non veteran since Kagurabachi (287k in 2 years), there's also Dear Anemone with 192k in 2 years but since Hal Formula reached 130k in just 8 days it's more appropriate to compare with Kgb.

The current line up Youtube PV views:

1. Ichi the Witch (409k) - 1 Year
2. Witch Watch (325k) - 5 Years
3. Class 2-B: Hero Destroyerz (324k) - 2 Months
4. Kagurabachi (287k) - 2 Years
5. Ruri Dragon (248k) - 4 Years
6. Blue Box (161k) - 5 Years
7. Hal Formula (127k) - 8 Days
8. Me & Roboco (113k) - 5 Years
9. Sakamoto Days (101k) - 5 Years
10. Under Doctor (74k) - 4 Months
11. Shinobi Undercover (71k) - 1 Year
12. Akane-banashi (62k) - 4 Years
13. Someone Hertz (54k) - 9 Months
14. Nue's Exorcist (53k) - 3 Years
15. Kinato's Magic (52k) - 4 Months
16. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi (42k) - 2 Years
17. Hima-Ten! (40k) - 2 Years
18. Cannon Master (33k) - 1 Day
19. Alien Headbutt (29k) - 4 Months
20. Drawn to the Fire (21k) - 2 Months
21. Roku's House of Oddities (16k) - 2 Months
22. Animal Signal (15k) - 2 Weeks
Do we want to talk about Canon Master with 33k in 1 fking DAY?

For fun, does anyone want here to make a very early prediction for which series that don’t have a volume out yet (so everything post-Kinato) will avoid the axe and get a full run? I have been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to make my own guess and now that I’m caught up on all of those options (been getting back into Jump a lot recently, yay), I’m not sure I can make an impartial prediction lmao. Someone bolder/less subjective will have to take a crack at it.

Idk who will survive, but HAL formula will likely be axed as much as I want Terasaka to finally has success. I just cannot see it thriving.

On the Himaten vs Nisekoi topic, I enjoyed both series a lot, but I do feel like the ending of Himaten is kind of lame. I know there will always be people rooting for the Onodera and Honoka type characters, but to me it’s kind of juvenile to be so focused on the childhood friend character just because she’s (usually) demure and kind and was there first. I think in the real world most people get over their oneitis for the first girl they had a crush on. Most people don’t ever act on middle school crushes. It’s usually the girl that comes later in a more formative time of your life that you fall for and end up with. You realize the feelings you have for that person are more significant and meaningful than the childhood crush that you just like because she was the cutest girl in your orbit when you started to like girls. I liked the ending of Nisekoi because it’s basically Raku coming to this realization. To me it seems childish to think that true romance is when you permanently crush on the one girl who made an impression on you as a kid instead of getting older and changing and forming more significant relationships. Just my two cents.

I also don’t agree with the common criticism that Nisekoi dragged on forever and there was no plot development. The comedy and the hijinks of the cast *was* the plot, not just filler. I don’t know what people wanted, Raku and Chitoge to just get together after the Romeo and Juliet arc? Everyone always wants the couple to get together in romance series, but I don’t really need 50 chapters of Raku and Chitoge doing all the same things but holding hands, you can just use your imagination. I thought the ending was honestly perfect. And I did enjoy Himaten but I think Nisekoi was way funnier and more entertaining and had a substantially better cast. It’s way better than Himaten. I look forward to if/when Naoshi returns!

And like someone else pointed out, there’s still at least one more chapter and Tenichi has to go see Himari. I don’t think a final swerve is completely impossible.
Honoka wasn’t even a childhood friend lol.

The author really needed to develop her character more for her “winning” to be even remotely satisfying.

Himaten was either soft-axed or the author got tired.

Tbh it is good himaten ends now rather than keep milking the same thing over and over. Kudos to the author for knowing when to end

I think it's a bit of a mix, i think Ono was kinda of tired and struggling, this based in a couple of things like his art becoming slowly inconsistent, you can notice the manga art recently started to become more inconsistent here and there which also very well explains the unnusual lower number of color pages and Ono reusing color pages for the volume covers. The ToC rankings while in the lower side wasn't enough to warrant a axe and the volume sales have been decent and pretty consistent the whole run.

So in the end i feel like it's a combination of Jump needing to free a slot with Ono deciding to not stretch things and wrap it up on his own, so everything just sync together and they came to a decision of end the series, the color page this week is pretty much the sign is a amicable ending.

Speaking of which, recently I decided to see what the math has to say about series cancellations, so I looked at the Jump TOC over the past four years. Conclusion: the top 13 series are safe. Dropping to 14th place or lower for a long enough period (I used 12-issue segments for measurement) means a high risk of cancellation. Only Nue dropped below 13th place and managed to survive. Himaten, while it hovered around the 11th to 13th spots for a long time, fell to 14th for the first time at the start of the year.

It was an "Afternoon" type anyway. Which means there are readers for it, not in Jump that's all.
They should transfer it to Jump+ now with all its "Afternoon" type titles.
They can do it because they can transfer contracts if all parties agree.
We're not in an "all or nothing" publishing market anymore. Titles can get second chances etc.
Hell, CANCELLED TITLES ARE GETTING ANIME NOW!!! Can you think of something more f....ed than this?
I quote myself because I've found something more fu...ed than this.... aka....

DOUJINSHI RECEIVING ANIME ADAPTATIONS!!:wtf

I hadn't heard of it before, maybe we got some of them before, I don't know. But I've heard about 2 of them in the last month, so we can tell that they REALLLY need IPs.:derp

Anime companies don't want to get the scraps of publishing companies (that are the main right holders), so their producers find cheap independant but successful IPs and try to shortcut the publishing companies. SMART. Then the publishing companies might want to publish the doujinshi but they are not the main right holders.

The future is exciting. :teehee

Bad for Jump because their authors will have other options, if they can get an anime just by publishing doujinshi, but that could be an occasion for them to step up the game and increase their kousoku (binding) contracts fees. I think 100 mangaka signed them this year? Something like this.
But I think it's 6 man/month only. Mangaka can't make a living of this. Make it 30 man and then we'll talk. :cheez

Even a published professional mangaka would publish their own original story doujinshis that become very popular and get merch etc.

For example, Yarichin Bitch Club that are published in pixiv. The author/artist is a very popular and successful BL mangaka and she chooses to publish it exclusively in pixiv. Despite it getting tankoubons, she still only release all new chapters in pixiv instead of in mangazine.

Btw, any non BL fans please do not google Yarichin Bitch Club because it is an extremely explicit one lol (but it is so peak)

But these doujinshi do not get ANIME first, right? Of course pro mangaka publish doujinshi too.

I'm talking of people getting ANIME for their doujinshi, without them being published commercially before or having this doujinshi being commercially published before an anime is made of it.

My favourite story like that is when a western Naruto x Sasuke fanfic got adapted as a Japanese drama CD... using the actual JP voice actors of Naruto and Sasuke (titled Yours for an Hour, for those curious).

It apparently reworked the setting and renamed the characters for obvious copyright reasons, but that's borderline official NaruSasu BL content.
