#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

As for Drawn to the Fire, it probably would have done better if it did the chapters it's doing right now first, instead of hastily running into a scrimmage vs rivals who were rushed into the story for the sake of being rivals just so the series could have a match.

The last time something like this was teased for the series, they just laid in bed together and did nothing and all the leaks were like "omg i'm surprised Jump let this run" so you'll forgive me for not being excited this time and waiting to see what happens first lol.

It is just hilarious the way editorial "hyping" things up with hyperbole. What "shocking" info? Nothing about the anime can ever be "shocking" because it is predictable. It is just at most VA reveal. Or about first few episodes being shown in cinema.

Remember how they hype stuff up for MHA ending special project, only for it to be a worldwide poll lmao. And everyone was thinking a sequel or spinoff anime etc

It is probably the date the first 20 min of the first episode will be screened. The actual anime will only start next year.

Roku definitely feels like the WW replacement of mature gag series with SoL aspects. With Himaten ending and BB on the way out, I guess we're going to get at least one romance series next round or two.

Happy for 2B. Sad for Kinato even if I don't love this arc.

Animal Signal is interesting. It really doesn't make you feel something; doesn't really light a spark the traditional way. The thing that could light a spark in an untraditional way is the interesting edutainment animal facts value. It'll be interesting placement wise. HAL will hopefully be a success, but the big challenge will be how to make races feel different, fun, UNIQUE, and engaging.

I do think Cannon Master will be DoA though sadly. Jump needs to do another fantasy adventure push.

I’m gonna take a step back from the genre saturation angle of this and just evaluate how the new series behave in their genre:

Roku’s House of Oddities: Boy with 5 wacky people coming into his life/house suddenly. Not the most unique on paper, and in a way it seems very visual novel coded, what with the series hinging strongly on taking time to learn more about each one with certain collab scenarios… if I didn’t know better I’d almost conflate it with a dating sim; but rather than romance the goal here is getting close enough to someone to free their soul in some sense. This is what gives the manga grounding to have weekly goofiness and humor like a true comedy while building towards an overarching goal. I encourage Roku’s survival since it has demonstrated the ability to elicit laughter and also hold an overarching story/narrative with visible progress that makes you genuinely care about the caricatures set before you.

Drawn to the Fire: Probably the most credit I can give this series was it’s latest chapter, as the author has stepped up some of the character writing, but at the current point that will not do anything to save it from cancellation. You had a series start that very easily slots into the trope popularized by Haikyu of “rival crushes mc then joins team”, so it’s instantly gonna get compared to that, and then you have not super great art to supplement it. This on top of the fact that I really don’t feel like I’m learning a lot about basketball when I read this, perhaps because it’s so big the author didn’t feel the need to explain much, but I don’t feel more engaged with the sport the way I do when I consume other sports-adjacent series. I do not encourage Drawn to the Fire’s survival due to middling art, mediocre use of a spokon trope that sets the foundation for the series, and a failure to convey additional interest in the sport it’s showcasing. (bonus note, the side characters on the home team have not been put to amazing use and as such are wholly forgettable. There is no gravitas to meeting or exploring a new teammate and there doesn’t feel like there’s anything making up for that).

Class 2B: This one… is tricky. I’ll cast aside the poop, prevalent though it may be, to try and define the core of the series as “delinquent x antihero fantasy”, with the primary feature of the series being a bunch of people in an unfamiliar place having strange powers that interact with their pre-existing personality in particular ways. This being a comedy, the primary function of these abilities is less for cool fights and more for humorous scenarios. The series, much like Gintama, is eager to discard the 4th wall to make a nod to the manga process itself, especially the labor by which a chapter is created. Depending on the reader it could either come of as abuse of the medium to whine about work, or a deeper insight into leveraging reality to make even oneself the butt of a joke. All in all, it feels to me very open-ended still, and while I know Sorachi is capable of some master work I can’t say I have maximum confidence in what his greater goal with this series is. I would not mind if 2B stuck around, but in it’s current form I do not think I would be torn to pieces by it ending; I would feel more sympathy towards the author than I would towards myself for losing the enjoyment of reading it, which tells me it’s not fully there yet.

Animal Signal: It’s got typical duo protag slow burn romance, check. People all have strange and versatile super powers, check. They end up in a high school setting very quick, check. A lot of things about this series are pretty tropey or basic, but I think there’s a key factor giving it big value to Jump: Education! This series beckons to the true origin of what Shonen means by offering a consistent slew of animal facts that the reader (even one such as myself) would not be privy to otherwise. Upon integrating it with a semi-baked narrative, you now have a series that can make learning new things very enjoyable and engaging. I lean towards encouraging Animal Signal’s survival, or at least think it has the potential to be very appealing to editorial, due to it’s educational value wrapped in the sweet dough that is a silly and cute little story.

Hal Formula: This did in it’s first chapter more for me than Drawn to the Fire did in both characters and sport interest. I’d even say this first chapter has me more engaged with the sport than the entirety of Drawn to the Flame; we get a lot of specifics on the different levels of racing, certain things that you would never know without looking into the sport, and then it pairs that with a painful and honest story of people that care about each other doing what they can to lift each other up. This then climaxes in a more cathartic hot-blooded moment of action, and coupled with the stellar art leaves the emotions high. The only threat to this being fulfilling is how they manage to spin the plot or focus of the series going into subsequent chapters, since we used a lot of the catharsis and emotional growth up in the first chapter (I could see the MC needing to be reined in a bit due to his current reckless nature, which could establish a bigger arc all the while having him properly grow). It surviving is also tricky given it’s position as a niche sport, so it can’t let the gas off the pedal in terms of quality content, or else risk swift death. I encourage Hal Formula’s survival so far, though I am cognizant of the dangerous position it sits in.

Cannon Master: Not super easy to rate just off of one chapter, but we essentially have Mob Psycho but the boy is the baby version of the things that everyone is fighting (I think?). The art is pretty spot-on, and some of the character dynamics were fun, but I think this will need to make interesting use of it’s overpowered MC and the surrounding folks to make it past the axe.


So I think I started that whole talk with the goal of explaining why I have no issues with the current state of Roku vs. Drawn to the Fire, and I think I just ended up fully rambling my thoughts on all the new series instead. Guess I hadn’t gotten that out of my system until just now… I should catch up on the acfual TOC talk haha.
