1. Tsugimanga's voter base is terminally online.
2. UD and Kinato are not nearly as popular as their sales numbers would suggest. Connect the dots and all that.
3. Trying to make sense out of anything that happens in relation to Jump series is a futile endeavor at this point.
But the sheer nonsense as we see Alien Headbutt nomination is outstanding. Under Doctor is selling like 20K a month and not even 2K of people voted for it.

Meanwhile, TMS has been shitting in the mouths of Sakamoto Days fans.
It is absolute bonkers how Sakamoto Days got the low end of the stick regarding anime adaptations. Even Chojo is looking good in comparison to Sakamoto.

What will Luffy's bounty be after the events of Egghead and Elbaph? Will it surpass Buggy's?

Maybe things are different now but back when I was an avid anime watcher TMS was known for rarely putting much effort into anything not named Lupin, so this is par for the course in my eyes.

All this axed manga getting high level production anime

--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Actually scratch that.

Another Jump Plus Series getting high level production* even after it got axed*
The most annoying example is Beat & Motion getting MAPPA. That manga was a failure and got it simply out of obligation. It did not deserve such high quality one.

It was probably already decided to be a Mappa anime before the contest even happened. It winning it under Shihei Lin when the judges were Shihei Lin authors was more objectionable.

But I love how MAPPA decided to not let this series and its author down, though it will be difficult for them to make a hit with it. (I would be impressed if they can make a hit of it though)

There was probably big money involved (because Netflix), and I can feel the commitment from their part.

It seems that they are fair towards the series ( they, indeed, had probably already signed the contracts so they couldn't back down afterwards).

This contest proved that nobody knows what will be a hit, even pros mangaka/editors. The contest was rigged from the start, not just "objectionable". IMHO.

Somebody knows what the other authors became?

It is proving to be animated like Jigokuraku season 1. Great visuals but not that great animation per se.

The issue here is that this flop manga seems to have better production quality than Hell's Paradise and even THE RANMA 1/2. You know, the two actual famous best sellers.

Most people here is probably too young to remember Ranma 1/2, but that manga is an absolute legend and is one of the most famous of Rumiko Takahashi. For comparison it is like.... having a high quality production for Bone Collection while Saint Seiya got shafted.

I wouldn't bet anything on a trailer. Only a handful of studios are guaranteed to having absolute quality. Mappa has a lot of quality, but at the same time a lot of misses.

Anyway, i really do not know if MAPPA can even recoup their cost, because I highly doubt anyone would want to buy Blue Ray or merch for this anime. A lot of the money for studios come from blue ray sales and merchandises. And not to mention all the product tie ins (e.g. Coco, Haneda airport, shinkansen, rakuspa collabs etc...). I doubt anyone want to do collabs with a flop manga

I see all the western fans being hype about sakuga, it's really puzzling...
"If it has great animation, it's interesting, if not it's boring" type of belief...

I'm watching Daiya every week and I'm just happy there's a new season animated.

People will probably come for the great visuals. Watchers will give it a chance because of it and will stay if they like the characters/story.
Some of them will cut it at 0 episode, just because the manga was cancelled. We'll see how it goes.

The Japanese are not as obsessed with sakuga as western fans are. I'm not saying that they don't care or that this anime will be a success (or not), just saying that anime watchers (especially foreign ones) have raised their expectations to movie level for a simple TV series. It's weird as it's not the same budget nor the same schedule. If they were paying for it, I would understand, but they're not.

Sorry, just babbling....

Nema became an assistant on Beat & Motion itself and publishes some oneshots on Jump+ sometimes. Think she worked on an anthology collection as well.
Osaishi Waga serialized Navigatoria on Jump+ and had that Salesman oneshot for the anniversary event.
Toshi published like two oneshots, but I think is MIA for the last two years or so.
Think Nanashi and Susumu had another oneshot together after the show, but seems like Nanashi published something else by himself later and then no news for the last two years. Susumu doesn't seem active at all from even earlier.
gizaneko had one of these indie Jump+ series recently, it was fun, but ended. Either it was axed and she felt sad or she got picked for serialization because she recently nuked her twitter account even though she was well connected there.

It's more surprising how many of them were/are still friends and promote each other stuff years later.

Pretty sure it was all paid by Netflix. The show was their idea, one of the executives at Netflix JP worked at Shueisha before and convinced both companies to invest in this as part of their project to get closer to anime and manga companies.

There's one anime really well animated (for the little I saw) called "Even replicas can fall in love" or something like this. Not making much noise among western fans... (?) People seem to love sakuga, but only action sakuga with a lot of BOOM BOOM BAM BAM....

Alien Headbutt art for the Tsugimanga nomination
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

It would be genuinely hilarious if it ended up pulling off what Chojo did last year
Can't believe tsugimanga is how I find out there's already a manosaba adaptation

I haven't read as much this year as I'd have liked to so most of these are just old picks :scry

They really thought they could make a CSM out of the contest from Jump Plus.
