But the sheer nonsense as we see Alien Headbutt nomination is outstanding. Under Doctor is selling like 20K a month and not even 2K of people voted for it.
Not everyone who purchases physical (or even digital) copies of the mange are guaranteed to vote in these types of awards. Sales and votes are not mutually exclusive in this instance. I had to search up what Tsugi even was, which makes me laugh now that I know AH got nominated for it.

But I love how MAPPA decided to not let this series and its author down, though it will be difficult for them to make a hit with it. (I would be impressed if they can make a hit of it though)

There was probably big money involved (because Netflix), and I can feel the commitment from their part.

It seems that they are fair towards the series ( they, indeed, had probably already signed the contracts so they couldn't back down afterwards).

This contest proved that nobody knows what will be a hit, even pros mangaka/editors. The contest was rigged from the start, not just "objectionable". IMHO.

Somebody knows what the other authors became?
I never read the series it did not catch my attention at all. That being said Mappa getting a series about dancing, with the level of animation we have come to expect from them, sounds like a good pairing to me. It is possible that while the story and illustrations did not work in manga form, being animated might be a more suitable form of media. I could see it getting a much better reception just due to that.

Anyway, i really do not know if MAPPA can even recoup their cost, because I highly doubt anyone would want to buy Blue Ray or merch for this anime. A lot of the money for studios come from blue ray sales and merchandises. And not to mention all the product tie ins (e.g. Coco, Haneda airport, shinkansen, rakuspa collabs etc...). I doubt anyone want to do collabs with a flop manga
The studios don't get money from sells in most cases, they get a set amount of money for the animation form the producers and doesn't matter how good or bad the series goes. Producers are the ones that put money and get the earning if there is any.
It is getting more common that producers give a % of the rights to the studios so they don't had to pay actual money or if the series is big to "make them do a effort" in animation so they get more money from that % of earnings.
Directors and storieboards (I think) do get a % of the disc sells, like 0.5% or something. and originals authors algo get some, like 1.5 or 2%

I'm so happy!!!!
Rushed manga by Saito not only get a well produced anime adaptation but also immediately gets a 2nd season, seriously, this will never stop looking bad for Saito administration, now we only need Chojo anime to also be successful :grin (it already looks good by the PV)

I’ve already said that doesn’t matter; plenty of manga series have ended before an anime adaptation even began.
Besides, the Killblue anime wasn't successful enough for anyone to complain about whether the manga got cancelled or not.

How successful do you think it should have been for people be able to complain?

Blue Box, for example. Even Sakamoto was more successful than Kill Blue, and according to you guys, Kill Blue had better animation.

Blue Box and Sakamoto were moderate successes at best. Mangas like Medalist gained much more boost from the same season as Sakamoto. But Blue Box and Sakamoto were already 100K sellers, I don't think Kill Blue would reasonably reach those backlogs. Even Akane got nowhere near those, even though Akane was far better animated than Sakamoto.

There’s people that think Bleach is still bigger than JJK or One Piece in 2026, some piece are just delusional

It does beget the question of the anime is a hit then why wasn’t KB more popular? I wonder if the anime would’ve made a difference and if it would (because it hits more of an audience) then where is jump going wrong with keeping these series

Considering Kill Blue put some volumes on Shoseki a couple of days, even charting higher than Akane backlog, and trending in Japan, it's very possible the impact could be better if the manga was still going on but it was never going to be anything big anyway, even Akane "peak" has just been many of the volumes appearing in the 400th range lol truth is most people today buy these backlog series in digital instead physical since it's even cheapter than physical and doesn't use space in your house, so in the end unless the anime really hits hard with the general public like Nippon Sangoku or Medalist recently which drives physical sales, most things will feel like not getting boost.

Issue 30 2026 (I don't feel like doing most reviews this week):

1. Nue's Exorcist: It feels so, SO odd seeing Gakuro struggle with level 3s again, but it also grounds us in the reality that he has fallen impossibly far behind, and now has to speedrun his way back to the top. And seeing how he treats Level 3s here, compared to how he did during Mitori Village... Yeah, he still has a bit of that "Carnage" mentality that the Yajima built themselves upon. Even Takuro was like: "Woah, what the FUCK was that, son?"
But regardless, the first thing I want to highlight is Takuro's perspective. To him, a Level 3 was what he needed to protect his kids from, a deadly terror ready to steal everything away from him. And now here he is, unable to help his son as he watches him get beaten to a bloody pulp during his fearless lounge. Him BEGGING Gakuro to at least come back inside and let him help was genuinely heartwrenching. It's everything he has always wanted to avoid, and now it is happening in front of his eyes.
But Gakuro says: "Rip and Tear until it's done." The sheer BRUTALITY of Gakuro beheading each Level 3 one by one, using an head as BAIT for more of them to come, all so he could unrust Crimson Midnight Sun the quickest. A reminder that he killed hundreds upon hundreds of Level 1s to do that for Silver Of Darkness. This entire sequence is the demonstration of the Warrior's Path Gakuro has taken. It's how he described Exorcists when he saw Rido fight: "They make the most effective moves putting their lives on the line. They are true warriors."
There is a big difference in how Gakuro sees his father, and how Takuro sees himself. To Takuro, he couldn't do anything for his children, not protect their freedom, not be truly strong for them, not protect them from that future where they were left alone. Nothing. But to Gakuro, none of that mattered. Ever since the beginning, he always wanted to be like Takuro, therefore Strong, protecting and stalwart. And nothing can ever make him see his father as anything else. They both underplay themselves, it's a trait that runs in their blood! It's, ironically enough, probable that that very humility is what made Takuro go against the family's wishes.
And as we suspected, CMS holds the power of Light! It was easy to guess from the moment we knew the name of the Hollow Weapon, but it is really interesting how the Yajima family line as a whole had powers relating to Light, especially with how it complements Nue's Darkness. It really is eugenics implemented to breed perfect contractors, so while as triumphant, powerful, and heroic it may seem, this is still an ability born of the Warriors Of Carnage, and their quest for slaughter of the Hyo...
The last section is so, so heartwrenching. Here is Gakuro, finally being able to have a small, final talk with his late father, watching him disappear in front of him once more. And yet, beyond the acknowledgement that Shitotsu's safe and sound, no pure bonding can be shared between the two of them. The mission is yet to be completed, the enemy's getting stronger still, and time is running out. And for one last time, Gakuro can tell his father: "I'm heading out, dad!". It's honestly fucking brutal.
Takuro was a man of strength, in spite of how weak he truly thought he was. He was a man of freedom, even when belonging to a strict lineage of warriors. He was, beyond all, a man of love, who gave everything for the sake of his children. He can now move on without regrets. Rest in peace, Takuro Yajima, truly this time. Gakuro's life is so, so tragic in so many places when you actually stop and think about it. He chose a path of pain and suffering himself, and yet refuses to let it go, even as he breaks down in tears here.
On a more exciting note, the art is as effective as always. The flow and power of each strike is satisfying and raw, and those Level 3 designs are amazing, which is expected of Kawae, though they do suffer a bit from that shitty Mangaplus image quality... Only thing is that the main Level 3 reminded me of the "GOOD GRIEF HE'S NAKED!" Scene in spongebob with that panel, and I can't get that idea out of my head now goddamnit. GREAT double spread, hou can FEEL the power of the blade's light!
Then, that last page... We are about to witness a real Gojo Satoru™ moment, aren't we? It's just a matter of HOW exactly it will happen: Maybe Kasha is still beyond her, even with her self sacrificial plan. Or maybe, something that we Nue fans have been wondering for so long, her true name will bite her in the ass. How so? Kabane. In case you did not know, he is still very much alive. And he was there to hear Nue's name. Meaning that if Raisei rescued Kabane, he'd have access to her name, and who knows what a sorcerer like him could do with it...
Do I need to even say it? 13/10.

2. Kagurabachi: "Now we tame the gods" fucking rules, we NEED more Chuuni shit like this in the magazine. This chapter works as a way of demistifying the Enchanted Blades. They are objects both we the viewers, AND the population of Kagurabachi's japan, see as mythical weapons created by a great hero. In reality, they are products of a risky scientific project born of a desire to protect one's beloved. I'll close with saying that Joji's so fucking ugly dude, WOW. Genuinelt what the hell was the idea with that piercing and mask combo, I NEED to know.

3. Animal Signal: Thighs goddamn- ahem I mean, that's actualky a really fun way to have a (Kinda?) trans rep in this series. Besides that, Kokone's jealousy was adorable and she already looks to be developing a slight crush on Tsubasa, exactly what my Romcom brain wants to see... Definitely my favourite chaoter of the series so far!

4. Roku's House Of Oddities: What the fuck is Blue Lock even about? The humor's great, especially with the nonchalant offsides comment, but what intriguesthe me the most is the fact that Sachiko's not only confirmed to be multiple personalities, but also that there's a "real" one. Is it the shy, blushing Sachiko at home? Or is there another Sachiko that we have not seen yet? Only time will tell. Regardless, I say this ship is setting sail.

5. Someone Hertz: Now that they are matched in points, we can finally see these two as rivals, and boy is Eel Potato still far ahead. Never forget that Kurage is constantly aiming to be number 1 herself!

6. Cannon Master: The world and Regilith designs are strong, and the middle east setting is a breath of fresh air. Art in general is solid to good, and Bharat is a fun character. All's good so far! thanks to these, I can still say I am looking forward to the next chapter. Problem: Ur. I do NOT like Ur, ESPECIALLY not how ridiculously OP he is. I don't find it *funny*, and it makes Bharat and Slayliths in general already feel so, so small in comparison (yes there are stronger ranks of Regiliths and therefore Slayliths, but Ur's also GROWING at an insane rate). How will Machida introduce an ACTUAL threat organically into the story without completely ruining the the world building already put in place? Without making a MESS of the power structure? He can already level a city wide area and one shot level 2 Regiliths without much issue. Overall I am conflicted on it. It has POTENTIAL thanks to the premise of the world, but Ur really puts a damp on it already. Let's see what Chapter 2 has in store.

7. Ichi The Witch: Tricaputo's great more of her please! Rest is fine, but I don't know how to feel about how Death For Death is being handled currently.

8. Drawn To The Fire: Surprisingly decent drama.

9. Hal Formula: Not a bad chapter per se, but I am worried at how the fear aspect, or rather lack thereof now, will be handled. Right now, it looks way too easy for Miharu, and he NEEDS to be punished a bit for all the recklessness.

10. Class 2B Hero Destroyerz: One of the funnier chapters recently.

11. Kinato's Magic: Booba.

12. Under Doctor: God, this series just- The chapter itself is ALRIGHT, I guess, I'm not exactly moved by the Usopp-like plotline, and the art feels a bit off at points? But regardless it's not this chapter by itself that is 21 chapters in and I don't get where it actually wants to go, or WHEN. Sometimes it just sets up for later, just to not follow it up, now the whole fake Haiji thing is basically already solved, we got a new dude in the crew (who already knew Haiji personally?) out of basically nowhere, a bunch of unrelated standalone chapters here and there-
It might not bother EVERYONE, but it sure does bother me.

Blue Box and Sakamoto were streamed exclusively on Netflix, whereas Kill Blue was available on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Amazon Prime—and you're telling me Kill Blue couldn't reach those numbers?
Don't you think something is off about that?

Blue Box—which isn't an anime—posted better numbers than Kill Blue, even though it’s a romance, whereas Kill Blue was more mainstream.

Kill Blue just doesn't have the power even if it wasn't exclusive, well being exclusive can be a benefit since you got Netflix marketing machine behind you.
