#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

Preview of Animal Signal volume 1 cover!

Yeah, me and my friends on a discord chat discovered that as well. So we know what to expect. Furthermore, on the chat, we were looking at the issue and saw a section dedicated to Jumps comedy authors (past to present) and were giving advice to new comedy/gag artists. These include:

-Tsunomaru (Monmonmon and Midori no Makibao)
-Kyosuke Usuta (Sexy Commando Gaiden and Pyu to Fuku Jaguar)
-Koji Oishi (Inumarudashi and Tomatoypoo no Lycopene)
-Shūichi Asō (The Disastrous Life of Sakki K)
-Ryo Nakama (Isobe Isobe Monogatari and High School Family)
-Shuhei Miyazaki (Me & Roboco)

I’m hoping for a translation so I get to know what each of them have to say because I’ve always been critical of comedy/gag series and things have gotten better since 2024 with works from Shun Numa as well as the successes of Roku’s House of Oddities and Class 2-B. So if anyone can help with their translations it would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, even Kagurabachi was in the same situation around chapter 30 or so
Let’s say (unofficially) that Shueisha gives a series about 2–4 volumes to perform before deciding whether to axe it (based on situations, look Otr and Harukaze that get axed in 4 or other in 2 etc...)

I'm excited to see what's next for Witch Watch, dealing with the reveal of witches to the world and repairing their reputation would certainly be enough for a full part 3 if Shinohara wants to keep the series going. I wouldn't mind if it started wrapping up now since all the important drama is concluded aside from relationship stuff, but it would also be nice to see more series lasting past ch 300 (since Sakamoto should end before then).

It sucks to finally have Hyskoa do something in HxH in the very chapter it goes on hiatus. At least it shouldn't take as long to return this time if most of the next batch is already complete.

This doesn't say Kiyoshi was intended to be cancelled, the author's just saying that he had Shuten's details all set out by volume 2 and would've had to shelve it all had the series been cancelled. It's possible there was talks of cancelling the series early on, since that is a bit of an odd comment to make out of nowhere, but there's nothing actually saying it was.

How early series get cancelled are often down to timing more than anything else.

Doron Dororon is the perfect example. The first round it could've been at risk only had one new series, and Ayakashi Triangle transferred to Jump+ so nothing needed to be cancelled. Then in the next round, it was consistently 3rd last at a time when Jump only needed to cancel 2 series, so it got to live up to ch 36 while Ayashimon in 2nd last (and Shugomaru probably in dead last) ended on ch 25.

It performed badly the whole time, but stuck around for 9 months simply due to WSJ not starting many new series during that gap.

It wasn't cancelled, he was just writing assuming there's always a possibility of an early axe and had to introduce some ideas and concepts early. Not really uncommon. But this whole thing was really poorly translated and shared by western pages.

Don't think there are any cases of series being "un-axed" besides Outer Zone and Rising Impact and even these actually ended before coming back.

I mean, Phantom Seer and Harukaze Mound both end at Vol. 4 for the same kind of “issues”
Isn’t there some underlying problem with the two artists (Goto and Matsuura) themselves that needs to be resolved, rather than just pointing the finger at other series?

(By “issues” I mean things like the story, tone of voice, etc.)

There's also Hareluya which got cancelled very quickly, but then came back later in the same year reworking the setting as a delinquent manga (since that's the one part people liked from the original run).

We know some series have been at risk then turned things around at least, I remember World Trigger's author saying the series was at risk of cancellation early on? So he introduced Jin much earlier than planned and that saved the series.

I strongly believe Kagurabachi is only surviving because of the meme in it's opening chapter and reader's not taking the manga seriously, but rather as a joke.

Tone of voice is the way a manga "talks" to its readers through words (isn't only a vocal things)
(I use it often as social media manager; depending on how and what you write, you convey different emotions)

It’s not about what happens in the story, but how it’s told: the kind of language characters use, how serious or silly the dialogue feels, and whether the narration sounds dramatic, calm, dark or playful etc..

I still don't know how much UD sells in the first month (of volume 2), i'm stuck on the 8/6k of first week

Even Kiyoshi has the same problem, people report the 7.9k of first week, after that nothing
(This tendency to only highlight the big numbers drives me crazy because I don't have enough data to tell whether a series is about to get axed or not)

Speaking of Under Doctor, it's introduced a bunch of other genius doctors but they still feel like they'll be largely one-off characters. I'm surprised the author hasn't attempted a new larger story arc, the first two action ones weren't received very well so it made sense at the time to try something different, but this content mostly hasn't been received well either.

Is it just going to do 'surgery of the week' until it gets cancelled? Part of me is wondering if the author's avoiding starting anything bigger out of worries it'll be cancelled before he can finish it. Saving the big ideas for his next try at a series or something.
