WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

Cannon Master, yeah, as if the bad rankings didn't make it obvious, chapter just reafirm that the series it's axed, is the typical early big fight/development authors pull when they get the notice.

Machida has a really good art, in fact levels above the usual newbie & real potential but needs to refine his writing

One Piece - Enjoyable as always
Sakamoto days - Setting up for Sakamoto's past life vs his current self is pretty cool, rather the main idea of the story. Hopefully he stays fat
Ichi the Witch - Yuri yuri, and komugi potential stocks get inflated for the 5th time. Either way I'm glad we're gonna actually focus on the side homies now.
Akane Banashi - Peak, this arc probably is the best arc in the series and just keeps delivering. Issho, you're not in bleach you don't have to use your spiritual pressure like that
Graykeith - I enjoyed this a lot, but I did want grim reaper to come back at the end, but i do have hope in this series
Exorcist Kiyoshi - Getting some serious harry potter vibes as this arc continues lol, kiyoshi had to take one more look at mashle's book. Still it's fun
Shinobi Undercover - Yodaka my goat is back in action, and he's finally got a hint of aura too. This arc's original starting point has kinda just entirely been thrown out cause editors probably said readers need action, sad.
Roku House - Roku is singlehandedly strong enough to hold battle shounen off with words. Talk no Jutsu on another level
Class 2-B - Maybe its cause I love gintama, but I also just did not expect things to turn out like that so suddenly. I'm excited and am liking what this series is cooking

GrayKeith 2nd chapter was really good, better than the 1st which is surprisingly not much of a common feat on Jump, i wasn't really sure the manga since is so typical to have a good 1st chapter while the 2nd already be like "okay", but no, this was definitely better, so kudos to Hokami for already surpassing the first typical barrier for a Shonen Jump manga, and the comment i read, seems like jp readers are enjoying too, so maybe we will have 2 winners in this round? I hope so

I was very surprised about the lack of fights this chapter. Instead he let his beautiful writing take over. Might be the first 2nd chapter in a while that didn’t rely solely on some big fight. Hope JP reception stays positive.

Extremely strong issue of Jump overall.

Lots of recapping with the recent roku chapters though that's maybe for the benefit of catching new readers up to speed. Classic roku doing everything they can not to get into any violent confrontations.

Reinforcing his goal of saving the curses really hammers in they"ll part ways by the end of the series. It's a comedy series but this is an ending I don't see them copping out on

Cannon Master was somehow more gorgeous than usual today. The author is really putting everything into these final chapters instead of bumming out from the impending axe. Checked the chapter # and it's sad this will have a run as short as alien headbutt's.

Hal has been hitting its groove for the past couple of chapters. Even the work politics is as exciting as their prior race. Hoping this gets reflected in the ToC with better surveys.

Everyone is badmouthing 2-B again so I'll say the daughter's comment about her mother made me laugh and the assistants are still doing stellar work on the backgrounds and mob characters.

When the focus moves away from the imu fight the chapters get better. More zoro and sanji is always welcome. Been a while seeing zoro in deep contemplation.

I don't think there's been a single story arc in under doctor where I didn't like the new character and Artois isn't an exception. Is it bad I like them all more than Haiji?

Sometimes I hope magazine readers would read the bullshit the people who ask to allow online readers to have influence on the magazine say about them so ideas like this are never pushed / get backlash. Some are already starting with the usual "Japan hates anything without teenagers/schools/fanservice and have bad taste", etc over Cannon Master's axe. Always the same thing when a common battle manga is soon to be cancelled, this magazine would be so unappealing to its buyers if they kept manga like Alien Headbutt running because of this.

You guys severely overestimate the pull series like Alien Headbutt or Canon Master have in the west lol. These series get outviewed by Drama Queen, they don't have any real fanbase, you're just overreacting because some rando on twitter doesn't like Nue. In reality, if this existed everyone would just vote for Kagurabachi 3 times, it really wouldn't impact everything. Some random axebait ranked 49th on mangaplus (Canon Master is literally below Roku and Under Doctor) isn't going to mess up Jump's polling system.

Something weird I noticed:

Shinobi Undercover chapter 3: Yodaka and Aoi go to karaoke

Someone Hertz chapter 3: Mimei and Kurage go to karaoke

Ura Files chapter 3: Momotaro and Ura go to karaoke

I get karaoke is a common trope, but why on chapter 3 specifically lol.

I think they should consider the survey vote overseas but limit it. Similar to how the editors typically carry one series that doesn’t have impressive sales or ToC but the editors recognize is too quality to let go (Hinomaru Zumo, Undead Unluck, sort of Kiyoshi), I think having one series slot being a non JP hit but international darling would be good. I adored red hood and wish it got saved. Other potentially great series that could’ve been saved by international reception are series like GGG, Ginka Gluuna, Mamayuyu. Now granted, a series like Alien Headbutt that got some international love shouldn’t automatically get saved just because of that; some measure of domestic success needs to be met, but overall I think it could actually be healthy for the diversity of the magazine.

Nothing that chief editors love more than to pretend to be "expanding" and make dumb decisions that limit or directly restrict artists and creativity/variety. Jump+ nowadays feels so focused on being "international" it's no wonder it's so stagnated in Japan, feels like half of the new series they start there are either inspired by Fujimoto or western movies, and the latest success is the furry manga they probably never expected to hit.

Hitoner's literally based on the most viral and popular Jump+ one-shots in the history of the service, they absolutely expected it to be a hit. And heck, Jump+ is doing way better than they were in 2023 when most of their series were flopping sales-wise, not just Hitoner, they also got Witchriv, Strikeout Pitch (which won Tsugi last year), Twilight Blade is starting strong, and Home on the Horizon's been growing quite a bit. You could say they aren't getting back their pandemic highs, but literally nothing's doing that.
