Nah, some people have this weird "elitism" about J+ as if the platform is not already pretty much a "All Shueisha" platform where everything from WSJ gets published there, from flop to hits.

There's a difference between wanting a complete flop to be moved and wanting a series that is selling okay/decent but simply not doing "enough" to keep on Jump but could work perfectly fine on J+, case in point Chojo, i would argue that even stuff like Kinato selling the amount it sold could move there, there's no such thing as "It is genuinely insulting for all the works published there as a second tier club" lol no one cares about these things, they're all authors just working the hell out to make some money and live their life, not a bunch of nerds in a Forum arguing about rankings :grin

Cases like Junket Blank are great examples of how series can not only be saved but turn into actual popular series by moving to or getting a simulpub on Plus.

But again, don't take this as me saying stuff like Alien Headbutt could've been big if moved to there lmao!
It was probably up to the mangaka, but imagine if Kill Blue moved to jump+! With the anime being successful, it could have become more than a moderate-ish success and told its story completely

Rumour about people not liking Kagurabachi's current arc is disappointing. We are now at one of the best characterization stretch that the manga has. And not like it lacks action. No wonder a lot of shonen manga suffers from lack of downtime. Most shonen manga fans has the attention span of goldfish and just want constant hype and aura. Sigh
Probably has more to do with lack of main character(s) being present. Not even the first time an arc had popular reception online in Western spaces but a lot of Japanese fans wanted the main group back. My Villain Academia was loved by people online (myself included) but a lot of Japanese readers apparently wanted UA to have the focus again. It's unfortunate

What i read is that is because there's no Chihiro in the arc.
This doesn't even make sense.....he is a bland MC. He is not the reason people continue to read the series. Him not being present is not what is causing people to dislike this arc. I would actually go on a limb and say this arc is actually much better due to the lack of Chihiro.

Like Broseph said, arcs or stories that focus on side characters and sideline the MCs are usually less popular in general. I don't even think this is a manga thing specifically: Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, starring Zelda instead of the usual protagonist Link, sold 4M copies in comparison to Link's Awakening in the same series doing more than 8M copies, even though it's a remake of a Game Boy game; Marvel movies average went down after the current Iron Man and Captain America retired; the Harry Potter-less Harry Potter movies bombed so hard they were axed mid-way, etc.

I don't think that's a good thing, but the general public gets attached to characters more than to the stories themselves, so it's easy for a bunch of people to lose interest in things if the protagonist isn't around. Chihiro is also pretty popular, he has a gap moe with the contrast between the themes of revenge and violence and his kindness. Others just think he's cool.

Not that I think Kagurabachi is suffering or anything. I wouldn't be surprised if sales kept pretty much the same for the next few volumes. Basically everything in Jump is declining in physical sales, even Ichi and Hertz are.

Kagurabachi's current arc also has consistently short chapters, and that could also have an impact.

Plus it's never been a consistently high ranking series anyway. It's a mid-ToC series with abnormally high sales.

Does Japan have a strong favorite for who “best girl” would be for Gakuro in Nue’s Exorcist?

Also, now that it’s been more than 24 hours since the new Jump issue, how has Greykeith been received by JP audiences?

Plus it's never been a consistently high ranking series anyway. It's a mid-ToC series with abnormally high sales.
There are series with this disconnect between ToC and sales like shinobi, kiyoshi and roku(mediocre sales) or nue(moderately good sales) but it's always been absurd the best selling jump series introduced in the last few years could have middling surveys for most of its run. This year's ToC sort of makes sense with a combination of hokazono's health(breaks, shorter chapters, late manuscripts),an arc away from the main cast, and fans who are assured of kagurabachi being safe so they put less popular series on their surveys but prior to seitei arc kagurabachi's place in the ToC was bizarre. Even with the worse ToC placements its treatment on the cover is mad disrespectful.
lol i'm not expert kkk but the covers are obviously planned in advance since each author has to draw a colored illustration, the cover was already done when Kagurabachi had to be removed so they weren't able to edit that
Bruh, Kagurabachi reduced to "newbie/flop" size :XD

Seems like kagurabachi's absense in the double issue wasn't the reason for chihiro's size either. It's baffling how one of their flagship titles are treated like this.Kagurabachi's online engagement, merch sales and volume circulation eclipses everyone in this image besides one piece and sakamoto

Always seemed like they are all close in popularity. Natsuki went viral, but Suo-senpai and Shiroha were always popular and Ishu was leading the popularity poll when we got the preliminary results.

There is Chihiro in the arc.

He's inside Chiaki's ovary and Kunishige's testicles

Chihiro is one of the most popular character in Kagurabachi JP fandom BY FAR.

Not always true. JJK remains the same high position during the almost entire year the MC got sidelined during the Culling Game.

This is most likely because yuji is nothing special or interesting, and jjk has strong casts of side characters. Gege himself even said in interviews that jjk is unique in a sense that he can always shift focus out of yuji without losing popularity

Shame about Kagurabachi not being in this issue but overall decent read, I think I haven't posted votes in a while due to either forgetting (been lately slower to finish the issues too...) so here goes:

1) Witch Watch
2) Under Doctor
3) Roku's House of Oddities
4) Kiyoshi
5) Sakamoto Days

Witch Watch is so fantastic. I'm glad people are seeing Shinohara work twists like this like it's magic, he's such a phenomenal writer and I'll be so sad when he's gone. Roku does scratch that itch WW does nicely though, and I do think it'll embrace battle stuff at some point but it's having a lot of fun delaying it andgood for it. I'm also liking Graykeith and Ura a lot. Liking Numa again isn't surprising to me but I was skeptical on Graykeith expanding and so far I'm on board. Bit bummed we have a break week, but oh well. Hope they let Hokazono rest soon.

Writing my Ichi series review and lowkey I think people will have my head when I post it lmao
The series is absolutely mid. Every single arc is no more than a 4/10. Author got lucky with Descarass because every other character that's not her might as well be replaced with a cucumber.

NOOOOOOOO! (whatever...there's toei as backup /j)

- - -

Regarding the discussion you're having about Kagurabachi, am I the only one who can't bring myself to read the series weekly but only in volumes? (I mean... I've always thought that the low rankings were also due to the fact that the manga isn't very readable in individual weekly chapters)

P.S.: I know people aren't liking the current arc, but it was just an extra question about it.

I know it’s not WSJ but (since it is break week) I saw that Ura Tokyo that people really liked got axed; action manga has been kind of rough throughout the industry right now. Has there been any new hit action-adventure series that really have taken off that started this year or has it been dry? I know Sensen senki in magazine and Twilight Blade in plus seems to be doing well and hopefully Greykeith holds up too for Jump

In Jump's case we just got 3 new successful battle shounen in a row in 2024 plus 2 others the year before that which are all still going strong. Since then, the battle shounen in Jump have been

- Otr of the Flame - awful start that it never recovered from, and a total cardboard MC (it improved a lot for the final arc but it took too long to get there)
- Kaedegami - really weak action and not great use of the premise
- Gonron Egg - awful art, even for a gag manga this art would've been too rough
- The Mage Next Door - just too basic with, again, really weak action that didn't use the premise well
- Kinato's Magic - kept abandoning the side cast each arc and fights were, again, not great especially the MC who just did oneshot victories (the women village arc was an improvement, but by then it was too late)
- Alien Headbutt - too much FIGHTFIGHTFIGHTFIGHT too quickly in addition to the arrogant delinquent type main character not being popular in Jump

So it's not like we've had fantastic series failing that should've survived, they've only run 6 new battle shounen attempts in the past couple years and they've all been underwhelming. I think all 6 of these series would've been cancelled in any other period.

Compared to 2024 having Ichi the Witch with its fantastic character dynamics, Shinobigoto's MC being unique for a battle shounen with his total lack of any social skills and also the series having very flashy action, and Kiyoshi just nailing the vibes of being pure fun each week, they don't stack up.

I think that is a good assessment. Which I think we are fine with the battle series we have along with the ones prior 2024 with Kagurabachi, Nue’s Exorcist, and One Piece (not including Sakamoto Days mainly due to it concluding soon). Also the romance and comedy departments have recovered this year so not much to complain about. Sports…yeah that curse is still strong. I did my own assessment and would like to share my thoughts on them.
