WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES

#1. No fights or personal insults.
#2. No bait or troll comments with the intention of being annoying or starting serious heated discussions, if i notice it's a continuous behavior, i will warn the user or delete the comment.
#3. No toxic attitude towards series, no one is obligated to enjoy any series and it's totally fine to criticize what you don't like, just avoid posting gratuitous hateful or toxic comments about X or Y series, if i notice this behavior, comments will be deleted.
#4. Don't bring politics or off-topic stuff to the thread, this is about Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and mangas, so keep any conversation about topics that aren't related about anime & manga outside the thread.
#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.
~ Shinuki

I hope everyone reads the rules and use it as a guide to behave well in the thread, thanks! :kkthumbs

Hima-Ten ended its serialization run selling pretty much the same average it did the entire 2 years, which is impressive tbh, much better than drop, hopefully we get a anime adaptation in the future and also Genki Ono returning in the future!

SHINOBI UNDERCOVER

Shinobi Undercover #8 (18,200)
Shinobi Undercover #9 (18,400)

Roku first volume performing pretty well for a comedy series by a, twice, failed author, let's hope Roku actually rises in sales with vol 2 instead of just following the same route of flat sales

ROKU'S HOUSE OF ODDITIES

Roku's House of Oddities #1 (15,664)

And Hero Destrozers doing 26k, through the weekly would be 28k but anyway, even for a veteran its decent numbers, but the terrible rankings its what doesn't make this result feels as good as it should since it's pretty much enough to "save" it from a axe, still, Class 2B is going to be here for a extra time

CLASS 2B HERO DESTROYERZ

Class 2B Hero Destroyerz #1 (26,400)

Awesome start and it does well in the magazine, should easily meet and exceed Agravity Boys. They need to do a full series reprint.

Already did:

Agravity Boys #1 (12,150)

And it was 6 years ago, what in my opinion makes Roku numbers more impressive.

Inugami and Suzune by Wani: First, i thought the mc was a girl but its actualy a guy lol

Well, hard to make a comment about this one without properly reading it because you will not understand what is going on for most part and i'm lazy right now to be translating pages, what i get is that overall it is one of these "MC and Spirit/Demon Contract" kind of work but it's not a battle shounen at all, it's pretty different, it's way more like a "horror" story and visually gruesome, so it's not a standard WSJ supernatural story, and the art is one of the main factors that gives this "horror/uneasy" vibe to the story, author's artstyle it's "good" but it's totally not "Shonen Jump", in fact this fits way more on Shonen Sunday or Shonen Champion, i wouldn't mind seeing a serialization for the author (not necessarily the one shot) but the artstyle is pretty outside of what you see on Jump, so i feel like it needs to be a story pretty well planned to have a chance to be a success

Overall i thought it was pretty unique visually, interesting. For me so far:

The Young Witch and the Teacher > Dog Eat Dog World > Banchoism = Inugami and Suzune >>> Cursed Case
they should also release this one shots on MangaPlus

Allow me to stir my own crackpot for a second, if you will…

What if editorial is taking an approach where they think the better a surviving series is doing on it’s own, the less they’re pushing to market it? Maybe their mindset is that Kagurabachi has reached most of it’s potential audience by now and markets itself so they don’t have to push any harder, meanwhile these other Jump series we see illogically high and pushed in comparison are the ones that can survive but Shueisha wants to really get their names out there to see how much they can draw people to it (or to keep them from falling into social neglect?).

Not saying that’s the correct way or that I even like it, but it’s a thought that’s come into my head before. Like some have mentioned before I do think the TOC is a nigh incalculable cocktail of reader votes, deadline management/punishment, and some editorial bias for whatever their internal reasonings are, so getting all up in arms about why Kiyoshi’s up and Nue’s down or especially Kagurabachi’s slump feels like a discussion that cannot be concluded.

(i guess that would lend itself to hitting 1000 pages, huh…)

That would be the case if One Piece, Ichi, Akane-Banashi, Sakamoto Days and others reached bottom 1 and stayed there.

Same, at least give us overseas fans a chance to check out the newer generation of Jump Rookies.
why they don't do that? Didnt they release Horikoshi's One Shot? So it means they have the raws to do it

And Kagurabachi is for some reason the only big series that they're purposedly placing in the bottom or dead last? See where this theory fall apart? :grin

Here's my theory: Kagurabachi and Nue are two series in the roster that could surpass One Piece, and Jump's editorial department is trying to prevent this. I hope they at least won't break the authors' hands.

People people TOC is not a direct one to one. At least in terms of value, one TOC does not really mean too much on its own usually; it’s the trend that is important. It’s also influenced by more than just ToC. There are four trends:
1. Perpetual top and gets covers/color pages consistently (One Piece, Ichi, SD, akane, hertz, Roku) 2. Safe middle, and hits the top quite a bit and gets color pages (Kiyoshi, Shinobi) 3. Bounces around middle and bottom (Nue) 4. Bottom (Cannon Master).

Just because a series is in one position for an issue or gets a color page doesn’t automatically mean it’s safe or not (although it’s usually a strong indicator), but trends of growth are what Jump is looking at in both ToC and Sales. They all matter cumulatively.

Bad sales and bad ToC? Cancelled

Good sales (both in total number and growth from last volume) and bad ToC? Depends on how strong those sales (both in terms of numbers and growth) are but you’re on the chopping block potentially and need fodder (UD, phantom seer, kinato, ex famous authors like 2B, Astro Royale. Samurai8) however Established series work a little differently and go more the way I talk below.

Bad sales and good ToC? You’re fairly safe and will get some promotion but eventually you’re going to have to rush things like the ending (shoutout Hinomaru Zumo, UU) established series with bad TOC and good sales kind of fit here

Good sales and good ToC? You’re safe.

Again though ToC may be influenced by reader surveys but other stuff like editors not trusting growth and sales. It’s not always just two seperate things, they’re usually connected, but Jumps editors look for differing things when reviewing sales than we do

Saito has stated brand deals matter more than volume sales now and guess what non-one piece series has the best brand deals and also best volume sales

And look how that series is treated
