It's a bit weird that luffy would have a human type fruit whose failed awakening would result in a monkey. Maybe it was never a human type fruit? That said, this would definitely explain the myth about two nikas. In the past there was a nika user with a failed awakening and proceeded to destroy everything with overwhelming power and then another with a successful awakening that became the white nika. I suppose the most obvious scenario would be that joyboy was the properly awakened one but maybe the story will surprise us.

It's possible Oda made us believe it was a human type and or that was Luffy's hybrid form. He certainly called it Nika and had the whole Egghead / Bonney tie in to make it 'Nika' but that might not be the actual form.

But what gets me is didn't we already see it awakened? He turned everything into rubber. However it seems like his fruit is still both paramecia and zoan since it has traits of both. We've never seen 2 different types of awakenings before.

I wonder if by the end Oda will decide it's also a logia just for shit n' giggles. The "joy" element or something.

Boy, we aren't even on break just yet and THIS show up? Man, some people have REALLY wild imagination.

Oda has to speed up, he knows very well that finishing One Piece is his crucial goal rn given of how many breaks he needs, that number wont goes down only goes up.

Nah, instead of speeding up potentialy risking quality of his work he should just focus on manga and limit side projects he's working on. All his fans will be deeply disapointed with him if he ruin One Piece ending because his attencion was all over the place due to all other things he's involved in recently.

Mostly I'm just bummed that with this nonsense Oda's completely dropped any and all pretense that this is still a 'rubber'-themed power - y'know, the one that just so happened to define our main character for a thousand chapters? Now Luffy can just do whatever because "he's free!" and "haki!" and none of it has any thematic connection to the power he started out with anymore. It's all so completely contrived and stupid and so obviously, utterly rushed because Oda's scrambling to finish it before he keels over from the accumulated damage the mangaka lifestyle (and chain smoking, probably) did to him. So of course Luffy's now awakening powers left and right because why the fuck not, we gotta finish this somehow.

EDIT: Saw someone suggest (in jest, I think) up above we'll get some Logia powers on top of it and I could see it happening, because sure why not? Anything goes with this stupid, stupid power. Nothing's off the table anymore and next chapter Luffy'll probably make it rain Sea Kings, make some googly eyes for the fifteen millionth time, make Akainu and Dragon fall in gay love and bring Ace back from the dead. Because why the fuck not.

I don't think luffy will get logia powers but... Mythical zoans IMO are already established as stronger than logia fruits basically. Heck, hypothetically there could be mythical zoans with logia like powers anyways. Nothing stops oda from creating, say, an ifrit fruit which would basically be a fire logia with a hybrid animal body. With the way haki levels the playing field for ability users I don't think the gap between logia and paramecia is particularly wide, specially with some of the stronger paramecia fruits. Strictly speaking even buggy's fruit grants a higher degree of invulnerability than logia intangibility (exclusively against cuts),

What if Oda did the same thing that happened in Naruto - When Naruto was about to be completely consumed by the Nine-Tails and Minato showed up to save his ass? Imagine Luffy being on the verge of losing consciousness because of his own Devil Fruit, only for Joy Boy to appear in his mind and help him partially reverse the transformation. In that moment, Luffy would finally discover who Joy Boy really is and why he’s the prophesied boy destined to find the One Piece after Roger.
