@silverback: dude. i know how you feel. i would love if this manga had a regular release schedule but unfortunatly it doesnt. and the reason for that is quality. so we cant do much more than wait. complaining about it wont help.

I have never heard of a vacation lasting two whole months. Fact is Claymore and FMA are very good mangas and they come out at least once a month. And then we have Bleach and Naruto which are very popular and they come out at least once a week with an occasional 1 week vacation.

I imagine many fans don't know what actually goes into creating manga, especially when you're Miura Kentarou and don't have assistants.

Even though I can't draw I do realize the work that is put into each manga chapter, because my brothers are very good drawers and I like to write a small stories. Fact is that it still doesn't take 2 months and also this is his job, the career he has chosen. So expecting a chapter within reasonable time limit is not asking much.

silverback:That is being very ungrateful! I hope you bought the manga because he has to do promo, outline the script, respect whatever he did on the last chapters, deal with the publisher, do the artwork etc...dude it's a lot of work that you get for free!

I am very grateful that these man take the time and consideration to create such beautiful things. It's a lifetime work, it has to be exactly like you like it...I've seen lazyness taking over in great mangas( last chapters of HunterXhunter) and lemme tell you it ain't pretty! (please refer to the chimera arc to understand)

On a more related note, don't compare two mangas that are made to make big profit to a manga that has actually broken out to the public as a great series that has won awards and one of the rare seinens that has comparable sells to some Shounen manga. Seinens have a hard time selling, because there aren't as many adults reading mangas as there are kids (Which is why the vast majority of the best selling mangas are Shounen).

Top 10 selling Shûeisha of 2007: 1- OP, 2- Nana, 3- Naruto, 4- HxH, 5- Bleach 6- Real, 7- DGM, 8- Gintama, 9- Lovely Complex, 10- Reborn

Total of: 7 Shounen, 1 Shoujo, 1 Josei, 1 Seinen.

Berserk essentially sells the magazine by itself. It could have nothing else in it and it would still sell like crazy with Berserk in it. Not to say the magazine has no substance, it has good series like Holyland, Cestvs, Futari Ecchi, and so on.

Who are you to criticize his right to take a vacation? He's worked very hard for nearly two decades to give you what you see now: A greatly successful manga that is renown almost everywhere. And trust me, the people signing his pay checks don't seem to have much of a problem with it. So if the people who pay him don't have a problem with it, why should you?

Do you know what's going on in his life? Do you know how he's feeling? Maybe he's burnt out? Maybe he's stressed out? Maybe he's depressed? Maybe he's having family problems? Who knows, really.

I read this entire manga from the very 1st chapter to 292 in five days, I love this man's work he is a true artist, but if I don't like pace he is releasing, its only because I really enjoy the manga. Also it is the fact that he is very skilled, which is why I am bit dissapointed by how much time he is taking.

And it is his right to have Vacations, that I can't disagree with, but 2 month vacation is a bit overboard. No I can't know whats going on in his life and if he is having troubles then by all means take 2 months off. Fact is I don't know whats going on which is why I grow impatient, which is a normal human emotion.

silverback, while all fans find it frustrating that Berserk is only released on schedule in spurts, beggars can't be choosers. We aren't paying for Young Animal ourselves (the majority of us anyways.) Berserk has been running for 18 years, Miura is established and a moneymaker so he can get away with taking breaks. It's either this, or subpar art and story (by Miura's standards)...even worse maybe no Berserk at all. Yeah it sucks for us, as we want to read the manga on a regular basis, but we can't. Complaining is natural, but it really doesn't have a place here, as it leads to inflamed situations of bashing Miura, and one another. No point to it.

As far as I know, no. Miura does all the art himself, with no assistants. He's an original alright, many mangaka have so many assistants that they hardly do any work themselves.

Just to add to the conversation here, I've tried to do a 20-page comic once when I was around 23 years old, and I also have a somewhat detailed artistic style (not that unlike Miura's, but not nearly as good and accomplished, of course - example here ) and it took me something like 2-3 days to do a single page and it nearly killed my wrist.

I also would suffer from periods of drawing fatigue, not wanting to do anything else for days, sometimes, even weeks.

Let's just put it this way, Miura has done a LOT more work than most people ever will on a single comic, especially considering his distaste and hatred of assistants, and has managed to make it very successful and renowned. Let's allow the man the breaks he wants. He's only 41 years old. He probably WILL finish the series before he dies, but he's not in any hurry to do so right now, and that's ENTIRELY understandable from my point of perspective after the two decades of work he's put into it. He probably wants a life aside from all that about right now.
