When it comes to END, there are two categories. Things said before the Natsu reveal and things said after the Natsu reveal.

Devil slaying magic has been built up just as long. It was introduced at the same time. Neither is getting embarrassed.

I think you're slightly underestimating Grays mindset right now. He's not right after Juvias "death". Just look at the second last page. He's not at all shocked or phased at Natsus form. That's not normal.

Mashima doesn't really do fights like that. The closest was Hades and that was just Team Natsu. Plus, END was a thing that only Zeref, Natsu, and Gray seemed to care about. I suspect thats why the other Spriggan are still around. I always found it odd how Erza had nothing to do with either...
