Zeref got rather excited when Natsu said he was using Igneels magic back in 465. He said that magic from beyond the grave might be able to kill him. Mavis' magic might count as magic from beyond the grave. Dunno how this theory could be connected to whatever gave her an idea during the fight...

This is a good theory; I never considered that Igneel would have an actual reason to kill Natsu other than knowing he was END, but you're right, they would have had to had already developed a bond for Igneel to not want to kill him. I have just been reading through the END theory thread, and...

I do wonder what it would take to open the book of END. Igneel told Natsu not to open the book, so that either means i) it can be opened by anyone. ii) Natsu himself can open it. iii) Igneel didn't know about the seal. That or it was just put in for the END theory hype :)
