Hopefully good enough that it will give Shinuki a Hail Mary because of his feelings of Nisekoi.

If you had to put a sequel series in WSJ, what would you want? Aside from Act-age (pain), I'd love a sequel to Toriko (hilarious Roboco Chapter lol)!!

Extra Thoughts
Cannon Master
- Feels like Demon Slayer but with a better premise and better art. I think chapter 1 was nice, especially Ur kicking the Regilith around and jumping across it was fun asf and overall the action was pretty good, as expected from Machida. While not amazing its a decent enough first chapter, interested to see where this is gonna go. Hopefully the series will also put more emphasis on the entire land being sand.

Hima-Ten! - Well... this was a bit fast. I was really looking forward to it despite Honoka having been my least fav. It is hard to explain on why this feels "off". I think 1-2 more chapters inbetween would have been better? We did go from confession to "Let's spend our lives together" to a kiss and to a "I love you" in the span of 8 pages. Feeling mixed about this chapter, maybe the next one will help. Also is Hima-Ten! gonna get a large color page for its final chapter? Or a 1 page Color page?

Under Doctor - ... despite volume 1 sales being good I can see why its flopping in the survey polls... the chapter was fine but either stick to episodic chapters or do longer arcs please.. I am tired of the series setting something "larger" up only for it to be resolved in 2 chapters.

1. Akane-banashi: Kaisei decided to put his personal life in his God of Death, a choice that may not pay but at least it gives him the chance to throw a lot of things out of his chest. And there is another positive: his story is different from Akane's, and as such it is interesting to read in its own way.
2. Roku's House of Oddities: I had a lot of fun with this chapter. The gags were not what you would expect from a Sachiko chapter, and that makes them all the more hilarious. And it is interesting that she is the curse that is closer to being fully understood and healed, if only Roku had listened the hint. This series completely found its footing at this point.
3. Drawn to the fire: Sometimes (actually, most of times), what it takes to make me like a character with a bad first impression is a good backstory. This one hits the spot, gave sense for this character to exist, and returns to the present with some curiosity for how the situation will unfold. Isn't that simple?
4. Witch Watch: I have to say that Gambit isn't that great of a judge, everyone was cheating left and right and playing them like a fiddle. Despite this, the final outcome delivered a strong message in that it is not necessary for someone to die at the end of a Jump battle.
5. Ichi the Witch: Fujimine took the loss quite well and is clear she is having fun, which makes her a very dangerous enemy. What will happen now of the traitor witch and the collaboration with the Magikeepers? Who cares, time for a round of Ping Pong Peril.
6. Shinobi Undercover: For once, a romance chapter that I actually liked, also because it's been a long time since we last saw Aoi. Thanks to the words of Kasasagi (who wisely stepped out of the competition), Yodaka is one step closer to personal growth, which is way better than being one step closer to obtaining a Kekkai.
7. Kagurabachi: Swordsmith facts are more interesting than animal facts. A beautiful chapter that is meant to slow down the narration and put a lot of focus on how extraordinary is the feat they are trying to achieve. I loved the final page with a panel for all the people present, all the people being a copy of the same person.
8. Cannon Master: It was interesting and with a different setup than the rest (in Jump, at least). I like that there are many unexplained misteries that are hinted, such as the Great War and the truth behind Regiliths (that remind me of Xenogears' titular Gears). But the plot wouldn't even begin if the master just had a talk with his apprentice. Typical japanese, hide away from problems and hope it goes well.
9. Blue Box: Beach episode, one year later. These two are capable of making me like such a chapter, because of their sweet innocence. But there is something that ruins the chapter...wasn't the last great match between Taiki and Yusa for a sole spot at the nationals? What they were battling for then? The match lost 70% of its gravitas now.
10. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi: The ceremony went as much as typical ceremonies go in this kind of series. Actually, they are like contract signings in wrestling: the GM tries to make everything smooth, but here comes the new enemy with a bone to pick, the two sides are lined up, and chaos ensues. This is all to hype the match taking place at the next PLE.
11. Hal Formula: Better chapter than the first. I thought that the guy would return to sucking, but apparently something changed in his head after the previous event, and what he sees now can make him either an idiot or a champion (or both). Still has something to prove, but it is a step forward.
12. Nue's Exorcist: This is one of the current series that understands better the "rule of cool" from Bleach school, and applies it for awesome effects. I still think that it all happened too fast, and a period of powerless Gakuro could have been a nice fresh twist, but at least it wasn't the classical series patented harem training.
13. Animal Signal: Am I to blame for thinking that the president was a woman since the beginning? Anyway, the chapter was acceptably fun, and the student council president from Witch Watch has to learn from her how to make people willing to join them.
14. Under Doctor: Last week I made a mistake: while Amiba was in fact a "fake doctor", the character in Hokuto no Ken pretending to be the protagonist was actually Jagi. That's where the similarities stop though: UD Jagi got busted very quickly, and is a caring person instead of being driven by hatred. But if I happened to do the same, I doubt that my moving speech would work with the police.
15. Someone Hertz: Awkward date returns with a bowling session, a classical choice for dates. This week it was better because the "artistic" rivalry between the two got more spotlight, and she also put him at his place which is the radio show equivalent of the rival team striking the first points in a spokon match. "I heard you live at a bowling alley, how is it?" "I leave my shoes outside when I enter, only to put on an indoor pair".
16. Hima-Ten!; We won! We should celebrate but...something is off. The ending I was hoping for the most is ultimately the most disappointing, because the winning girl is the one that put less effort in gaining the prize. Surely a brave choice from the author, but one that would have felt much better if she tried a bit more throughout the series. But I loved the super secondary characters forming a couple as well.
17. Me and Roboco: Roboco is improving her cooking since the early days of "Fanta special" or whatever it was called. Another chapter where Miyazaki's favourite manga (clearly Toriko) is heavily referenced, and allowed for a couple of laughs.
18. Class 2-B: Hero Destroyerz: I start wondering if this series is just one overly long adventure, with no slice of life chapter in the Demon World in between. That may be an interesting step out of the comfort zone for Sorachi, but he seems to return immediately in it after drawing...Utsuro? Will I ever review one chapter of this without making a single Gintama comparison?
19. Sakamoto Days: The battle is cool but nothing actually happens in this chapter, if you think about it. If the series is close to conclusion, does it mean that the cinema guy is going to meet his end soon? Actually, how come he survived until now?
20. Kinato's magic: It's back to boring unfortunately. I understand that it works for cannon fodder, but when a powerful enemy appears you really want to try the Seitai card? I'm not getting mad only because he was stopped.

I would have to say out of this new batch based on first impressions, I would put them in this order.

-Cannon Master: Had solid fun throughout. I absolutely love the characters and setting, along with the mystery about Ur. It makes me want to explore this setting due to it being in the desert and how I wonder if the sands are burying its history. I know when it gives a solid hook along with likable characters and a fun setting and premise, and of course had good pacing along with making you laugh and smile, you know you won over your audience.

-Hal Formula: My second favorite and really want it to stay for how much Terasaka has grown. I am glad that the pace is still going strong with another race and involvement and growth with its characters at chapter 2 to see more of what Terasaka is presenting, however I will admit it did get a bit exposition heavy by the third act when our lead was starting to take those risks, but I Aso know it’s the standard with most battle or sports series that have those moments, so I’m not that upset. Chapter 2 did its work and want this thing to finish first across the finish line.

-Animal Signal: Still reading chapter three and am enjoying the characters and premise. I also like the aspect’s regarding the animal tips and facts when the series is also trying to be educational as well. Now this is where I might get into a bit of a nitpick with the series for me. Now I haven’t read Robinson’s work, but am concerned if it could get repetitive with its gags, that is one, but my real problem is with the facts and how they are delivered. Now before everyone could crucify me, let me explain. Now I grew up watching a lot of preschool shows on different networks and some of the block schedules for preschool kids. Stuff like PBS, Nick Jr., Playhouse Disney, so I have had my fair share of shows that were fun but educational. But the ones that really left an impression on me were shows like The Magic School Bus and Cyber Chase where they put the segment of their education for that topic into the episode where it is part of that episode’s narrative. Even some action based shows like Captain Planet was also like that when it came to the environment and stopping pollution and destruction. I just feel like the random points with the animal facts is cute, but I want those facts to also weave into the narrative of that chapter or an arc if they are solving cases. That is just a me thing with my opinion, but I’d thought I would share in case if others were feeling that way.

So in order:

Cannon Master>Hal Formula>Animal Signal

Good issue, I'm digging this batch for sure. Cannon Master is so fresh and familiar, it just feels like it's going to belong just fine. HAL Formula is intriguing enough, and all my F-1 knowledge comes from the movie and it just feels like a shonen adaptation of that so far LOL but as one of like three people who like it I'll take it. Animal Signal also having the most diva character in the lineup right....happy pride to them, actually hilarious character choice.

anyway, I'll miss Kagurabachi but I won't miss Hima-ten anymore but I will applaud it for having the boldest choice at the very end. What a way to go out LOL

Issue votes:
1) Kagurabachi
2) Witch Watch
3) Cannon Master
4) Animal Signal
5) Hal Formula

I think i am the only one who do not mind the Himaten ending. Guy sticks with his first love because he loves her the way she is. She does not need to be rich, pretty, preppy, big boobs, etc. He still choose her despite other "objectively better" options lying around. I think that is what the author is aiming for. It just feel flat due to lack of development.

And honestly most people marry the "boring" options, no.

I am actually enjoying Drawn to the Fire, far more than I ever expected to! How have Jump+ views been? I’m sure a spokon in 2026 is doing less than stellar but just curious

Hima-ten is a romcom which abandoned any comedy after 50 chapters and ultimately went with a pairing with the romantic writing of a 12 year old.

Gonna need Komi to come back and show these authors a real romcom.

Yeah, a 200+ chapters manga where 90% is filler without any actual romantic development only for in the end to make the mc suddenly reject that girl he loved since forever and decide he now loves the other girl because "yes", and ahh, not even show a final kiss!

Yay please Naoshi-san show us how to write a real romcom! :derp

But i do think Naoshi is pretty much set to return either in the end of this year or beginning of 2027, with that last one shot serialization, both Hima & Blue Box ending this close are the perfect scenario for him to return, Jump is not going to keep with only Someone Hertz.

Hopefully he learned one or two things since Nisekoi.

Good writing is when you use 100 chapters to develop a character and a relationship just to drop it for the girl without any personality and that barely had any interesting moments making the whole thing feel meaningless, all the other characters could not exist and nothing would change, the ending couple didn't change or grow in any way with this ending. Nisekoi was always about Raku and Chitoge, so it had the logical ending. Himaten just went for a cheap gimmick.

Also, it's a romcom, part of it is the comedy, chapters and arcs being focused on comedic developments is the expected and what people like, not filler. If we're using success as a metric, Nisekoi outsells Himaten by millions of copies, so people clearly like that more and he doesn't need to learn anything.

Nisekoi was significantly better at everything lol. Romance, comedy, character development, story arcs. artwork. The best Himaten chapters were the early ones when it was copying Nisekoi.

Nisekoi ended a decade ago and we still have people salty their preferred girl didn’t “win”.

The complete lack of comedy in the second half of Himaten is such a massive mistake. Really brought the series down.

The comment isn't about Hima-Ten, is about the idea Naoshi has anything to teach anyone about how to write romance, and please, give me a break, i read Nisekoi weekly from the first to final chapter, that thing had barely any real development after chapter 50 when Chitoge realised her feelings, from that moment Naoshi froze the manga into a infinite cycle of useless comedy chapters without any sort of real development or stake between the characters, the comedy was mostly pretty childish and not to mention adding more and more girls just for the sake of milking more volumes out of it (not even some fanservice ffs), trying to gaslight into believing a big chunk of Nisekoi isn't just useless filler is crazy.

And yes, he absolute has things to learn, Nisekoi is something from 15 years ago, Nisekoi had good timing with a interesting premise & characters in the first 50 chapters which were able to hold the manga for the long run, not to mention the anime from Shaft which gave the boost, but the childish type of romantic & comedy writing Nisekoi had isn't gonna fly anymore with current readers having experienced much better romance writing like Blue Box and series that actually goes for kissing instead of what was that "kiss" in the final chapter, if Naoshi comes back with the same mentality he had with Nisekoi he's very likely going to flop.
