WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

The setting of Cannon Master is really cool with the massive mechanical monsters, like a series about people taking down Zoids, and the action was pretty good, but I don't really like the main two's dynamic.

It's very reminiscent of Reigen and Mob from Mob Psycho 100 and Reigen's constant lies with Mob blindly believing him was always my least favourite part of that series (though here the master is at least genuinely competent instead of a total fraud).

Overall it felt like pretty standard battle shounen affair but in a really cool and distinct setting. The setting is definitely what's going to make or break this series.

Not a fan of Ur being a punch harder character.

Bharat has a cool ass powers though.

Cannon Master didn't really do anything more me, guess Hal Formula is the only series I'm adding to my reading list from this batch, and even that I'm not that high on. At least I'm still enjoying the last batch, especially Roku. This week's Akane chapter made me realized this arc is kind of like the Iron Fan arc from Act-age, which made me a little sad, but also happy that I get to read something as good as Akane every week.

That is a point as well, I think I'd actually rather see the series without Ur. Have it be about regular decent fighters taking out huge monsters with cool powers used creatively, instead of falling into the modern trend where the MC has to be super OP and the strongest ever.

Ur being around as an easy win button will make the fights less interesting than if they were an intense struggle.

Yeah, Himaten is over. Dude went straight for the marriage proposal. There's no coming back from that.

Blue Box feels like it could end at any time, but it has been that way forever.

Sakamoto is clearly in the finale, but there are still some things left to wrap up. I guess it could end by August.

Imagine if both Sakamoto Days and Blue Box end next round with only two new series starting (or 1 new series + Bleach?), and nothing gets cancelled. Kinato lasting into the mid-30s never leaving the bottom 2 simply because they didn't have enough new series to replace it.

Issue 30:

Cannon Master

Very enjoyable. It's a fun combo of really well drawn action with a setup that is pretty funny and interesting with the master wanting to prove himself and grow, but having to lie to the overpowered student. We knew this from the art before, but the world building is also pretty nice, lands in a desert with mechanical kaijus roaming around, that itself would be a huge draw to the manga.

But yeah, it pretty much does everything well. Laughed, was amazed by the action scenes and enjoyed our main duo. The hint of a deeper mystery to Ur's origins is also a great hook for the story.

My main issue is how having an overpowered character like this from the start might trivialize the fun that would be taking down these beasts with tactics and interesting powers instead of brute force. I hope the author respects the Level system he introduced and other ones might be more of a challenge to Ur. Also, while I think the "faking until you make it" concept is fine, it might get stale if the writing isn't up to task -- I'm not against it being the whole manga, but he'll have to write some interesting situations.

1. Nue's Exorcist

Why did he make these random mob enemies so cool looking? Kawae will always go for the coolest or weirdest looking designs and directions for his story, bless him for that. It was a nice moment with Takuro and I'm happy he asked about Shitotsu, the reveal about light powers also make this new Gakuro more exciting to see in action.

2. Roku

We got a curse party and a football chapter at the same time here, but somehow it was also a cute romcom chapter. Roku so far is dealing well with the chaotic nature of the story.

3. Hero Destroyerz

Turning a dumb situation into the main topic of the chapter is Sorachi's best quality and our demon lord turning into a chair was crazy funny, the elder Toguro bit was great. Got me to laugh, so here, have my vote.

4. Drawn to the Fire

Best chapter since the first one! The guy lying about understanding the main theme of the manga, the whole thing about the bug lights, was pretty good characterization. It hurts to not be able to connect to people on that deeper level and using this concept to portray worked perfectly.

5. Animal Signal

First of all, Kokone is the best new thing to happen to this magazine this year. Second, love the school president and I didn't expect that.

As for others... I want to apologize to everyone for saying Himaten was better than Nisekoi. Gimmick ending instead of following on the manga's main themes is so lame. Komi Naoshi, you can come back with that new series.

My interest on Cannon Master heavily depends on who gets the primary focus and i hope it's Bharat. I like Ur's innocent personality, but they made him too powerful and boring, fighting wise.

The way Bharat was fighting the mech was way entertaining to look at.

If you had to put a sequel series in WSJ, what would you want? Aside from Act-age (pain), I'd love a sequel to Toriko (hilarious Roboco Chapter lol)!!

As insane as it is to have it in my top 3 this week, I didn't really have a problem with Kanai winning (revenge for Onodera, I guess); in fact, I honestly have more of a problem with the Shu and Ruri expies getting together despite having virtually no character development; really makes me wish the series got an extra 30-50 chapters to flesh stuff like that out; either way, there's still one chapter to go so I won't judge it just yet

Hal Formula seems (at least to me) like the most interesting spokon in the past 2 or so years, though some of that can be attributed to the hot manager lady; either way, the action actually makes sense since it's a sport i'm more familiar with (and one that's easier to understand in general)

Cannon Master was fun, I like the MCs and the action wasn't too hard to follow

After the news about the Hell Arc, I started rereading Bleach (it's been 4 years since I first read it so I was kinda due for one); all I've done for the first volume is notice how similar pre-Soul Society Bleach is to Cosmos (and now I can understand why Kubo recommended it)
