There is an image editors use on the net. They say that they prefer mangaka that play it safe but can do "safe hits" (sell so-so each time) instead of those who can only do rare homeruns. Baseball image of course.

Suddenly my new idea for a sumo-style exorcism series doesn't look too crazy anymore...

Yup, it would be interesting to see an Exorcism series like that given that's sports origins would make it a natural & interesting fit, such as how the Shiko stomps they do are done to scare away evil spirits & how they throw salt in the Dohyo before they battle as their way of "purifying" the ring, with Nomi no Sukune being the original exorcist of that world.

I could definitely see there being arcs where they defeat evil spirits in one arc like with JJK & Demon Slayer and another where they compete in tournaments as a means of the main stable showcasing their strength to rival stables & rise through the ranks, kinda like Naruto with their Shinobi systems. I've actually been thinking of a lot of ideas for such a series if you can believe it & how that world could work.

Super late but my review of GIGA Spring 2026 One Shots:

Pyurifaiāzu by Otohi Ogi: Hmm, starting with exorcist stuff, what a surprise lol this honestly feels pretty obviously inspired by Jujutsu Kaisen, getting the vibes all over it, even the MC looked similar to Yuji in some panels, the art so far is fine, i'm sure with more time the author's art will look good, but the rest, pretty generic stuff


Raifu ∞ by Shigeto Kiji: Uhhh, this one looks pretty good, art looks too professional for GIGA's standard, art wise the author feels completely ready for a serialization, only needs a good story, and i'm not saying this one is bad, actually i think it has potential to become a series with the right changes and being a actual fantasy/hero story is cool.


Saikyo Joreishi Kan-chan! by Yoshiharu Kataoka (Ping Pong Peril): Another story of a brother & sister living together Kataoka? LMAO!

But come on, exorcist story??? Boooooring, the guy went from a over the top ping pong series to such a generic exorcist story? honestly is more generic than the Pyurifaiazu one lol Not the best comeback...


The Demon of Shadow Burial by Hidechika Matsui: Another exorcist story? It's 3 out of 4 already!!!! But okay, at least i will say that the 2nd half was definitely different than the former 2 one shots and had some legit cool (and surprisingly dark/violent) pages, but still, typical stuff.


Miyabi yuē Wa Ku by Wamino: Oh, ballet? seems like the "Medalist" version of ballet with focus on kids...oh, okay timeskip lol and of course someone doing a ballet one shot for a Shonen Jump magazine will make it suuuuper dramatic with crazy/scary pages meant to show how mentally crazy/unstable the characters are and yada yada, it's typical, the art is very amateur, it needs a lot of work but you can see the author's ambitious at least.


Onmyo Donkan Massugu se Ima by Shun Yabe: ANOTHER EXORCIST ONE SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ehh, i guess the art is good, the mc design is interesting, kinda reminds me of NuraMago, but besides that, just another exorcist, i wouldn't be surprised if this one is the Kawae assistant, it has a bit of a "exorcist romcom" vibe tbh...


Pen wa ken yori etosetora by Kemuri Taimatsu: Oh look, another "exorcist-like" series, but this time with a "cute" girl that looks like she's lazy but in the end she kills all the supernatural creatures with easy...I don't know, looks okay i guess, nothing really caught my attention.


Inyoroku Battle Fantasy Bu by Tatara Kyou: Okay, this is a weird one shot, i don't know what to think about it, at first the art gave me "exorcist" vibes but in the end is not but i also have no idea what is going on story wise, the art isn't terrible or anything but it needs refinement, it also gives too much JJK vibes in my opinion, the main character looks too generic...


On Stage by Daiki Nono: And different than Kataoka i'm happy to see Daiki Nono really improving, a manga about acting? This is interesting, its not "Oh my God this is amazing", but his art is definitely better now and at least he's going with another different theme, maybe he is actually a author with good potential? At least we can see the improvement, even on Ekiden Bros that started like of one the most obvious flops out there he showed a good improvement, maybe he can pull a success with time?!


Hangetsu kurīningusābisu by Wataru Kuroki (Writer) & Takeshi Kuroiwa (Art): Oh God, now we have a CLEANING SERVICE EXORCIST MANGA!!! What's going on with new authors? Why they're so obsessed with either doing exorcist works or trying to create a spin in the genre? Said that, at least the dynamic of the mc duo is interesting, the girl is kinda cute and the art is pretty decent considering is a mix of comedy & drama, i wouldnt be against this becoming a series.


Mamono no Yusha by Hayashi Tatsuy: Hmm, a hero/demon fantasy battle shounen? Okay, it's actually kinda interesting, it's a very typical battle shounen work but honestly, after so many exorcist stuff so far this comes off as refreshing and the art has potential to become something pretty good with time, it reminds me a bit of Iwamoto Naoki (Magico) art!


Shinran - KAMURAN - by Odoru Issei: And guess what this manga is about? Yeah, IT'S A EXORCIST MANGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feels like this is more about the cool mc aura farming and yada yada, the art has potential and there's at least some big boobs...


OHALIVE by Takumi: No, no, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ITS ANOTHER EXORCIST MANGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IS ANOTHER EXORCIST MANGA WITH GENERIC ART ABOUT A TRIO OF HIGH SCHOOL CHARACTERS DOING OCCULT STUFF AND FIGHTING AGAINST SPIRITS/CURSES IN THE SCHOOL AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!


Kitsune no yume by Jou Tanakura: FINALLY! Finally something really great looking in this issue, this one looks really good and interesting, and the thing is, its about supernatural powers & creatures but it's not a f@cking generic exorcist manga and the best thing about, it's actually set in the ancient era where these myths and supernatural creatures are known for! The art is pretty good, and the content looks pretty interesting, some pretty cool pages from this one shot:

This one is, for me, the best one shot of this GIGA issue without any doubt! It will probably not happen but i would like to see this becoming a series on WSJ!


Yamori no Iemori by Fumuki Murano: I'm gonna kill myself, ANOTHER EXORCIST MANGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guardians of the rice paddies by Fujisawa Shinobu: lol a Kaiju work? okay, looks boring for most of the part but being a kaiju work is at least something different but meh...


Super Knuckle Lady by Hokazono Akira: Hmm, okay i guess? A one shot about a Ojousama girl with super strenght punching everything? Could be a lot more interesting with this premise but i thought it was just okay


Niide Reiran by Fuji Tomoya: LOL a gag one shot retelling Cinderella! I didn't expected that, it looks totally crazy, i imagine something like this being serialized on Jump, it would be something else for sure kkkkk.


Nairu to Noeru by Chihiro Okuno: And to end this GIGA issue a pretty interesting one shot, both visually and theme, the art is quite unique compared to the others and it's a christmas story, feels like one of these christmas touching stories, i thought it's a cool one, of course isn't made thinking in a possible serialization, is totally a one shot but the author might be someone to keep a eye on it.


Being very honest, weak issue, so many f@cking exorcist one shots and most of them were just generic, i don't know what is going on with new artists, isn't like these artists grew up with Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen so it's a inspiration, these artists editors need to guide them to be more unique instead of all of them just doing the same work with just a little bit of difference between them lol

The rate of Jump manga becoming anime is 26%.

Rate of anime is 80% for a manga with more than 5 volumes.

Jump+ anime rate is 83% but they have way less manga to take into account (shorter history), so it should be relativized.

Although I do hope the next issue does not have that many.

Whaaaat?! You don't understand: they were told "bring us jump manga". Jump needs another Exorcist/battle manga AND sports manga. BUT they all do exorcist stuff? Do you know why? Because sports manga are about sports with rules and it's hard to make a sport manga if you haven't practiced it.

So the exorcist stuff. Nobody can tell if it lacks "reality" or not because only the author knows the rules of the world. But creating a whole world is not an easy task, so they're screwed.

The "role" of the editors is interesting there. I'd like them to make videos to talk about how they work, like they did for mangaone.

Don't worry, they'll end up pairing them up with a veteran manga scenarist if it doesn't work.

If all these generic exorcist one shots are the authors own choices instead of editors pushing it for "mainstream" sake, Shonen Jump might have a problem in their hands

Yeah, had a gut feeling you would be annoyed as all hell with this exorcist batch of one-shots. exorcist batch of one-shots. The Winter issue had a far more varied selection of stories. The whole issue felt like a repeat of last year, but this time it's a summer issue instead of a spring one. God, I hope the next issue brings back that variety at least.

Beyond surprised that Nono has improved his craft to this level, but I do suspect that his talent is directed towards roles involving some kind of acting or theater stuff.

Also, quite surprised you liked Nairu to Noeru by Chihiro Okuno. I thought that out of all the one-shots, you would dislike it. Is this another one where I'm proven wrong immediately afterward with one of your comments, like it was when I was surprised when you thought Iwakami Sango was a talented individual who had a shot at debuting in the main magazine, and it happened? Man, I'm going to lose it if this happens once more.

Also, I have a sneaky suspicion that Shigeto Kiji is an assistant of Nue. But I might just be looking into it a bit too much.

I honestly would be down to see debut one-shots or series by either Jou Tanakura or Hayashi Tatsuya. Will not say much on Shun Yabe, cause he already debuted in a one-shot before in the main magazine.

The random oneshots run from time to time in regular WSJ have the same issue, there's so many exorcist ones with the exact same set-up. Random kid with a dead/missing family member meets the new guy in town who's rather antisocial and pushes the kid away, only for it to turn out he's actually a SUPER POWERFUL EXORCIST with the BEST and STRONGESTEST gimmick power and he's secrectly a god guy helping the kid by purifying the ghost/monster that killed/cursed kids family member (which has zero complexity and is just an evil ghost that likes to hurt people). Kid thanks him, then exorcist guy moves on. Most of the time the battle is awful too, super special exorcist man tanks a few hits then wins with one single big attack.

I can't imagine any of them are doing well considering we haven't had any new exorcist manga serialised since Saito took over (rare Saito win), so why do we keep seeing this one same story repeatedly published by all different authors? Is there one particular editor pushing everyone to make the same thing?

Man, you really do think Sango is likely to debut a series in the future don’t you? I would like to see Tanakura make an official debut with a one shot or full series in jump.

Since GIGA is just a spinoff magazine he is supposed to be the EiC for that too so is very likely for him to be the one with the editorial team deciding which one shots will be published.

In the future i think he will debut, but he still needs to refine his art more, i think his style still a bit too similar to Fujimoto at this moment
