WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

Exactly. Natsukomi is literally just their standard annual tradition for YEARS. It may have exploded this year only because the bonus look nicer than usual.... (i personally finds them uglier but it is just me).

It is just like how 2024 JUMP GIGA with JJK acrylic stand bonus and stickers got scalped temporarily because it was the 1st time (iirc) they gave out acrylic stands for free...

Just realized that with the Natsukomi scalping the Shoseki sales of almost anything not published by Shueisha might be completely unobtainable for at least this week
Sucks considering there's series from other publishers whose sales I'm trying to keep track of

Do you guys not understand how Natsukomi bonus works? They have this annually for years, not just now.

Basically, there are several designs of the cards, and one card is given for a purchase of ANY SHUEISHA manga (not just "specific series" like what you think). The design of the card given is RANDOM, you cannot choose. So, you can technically buy 50 random shuiesha volume and not get any One Piece card for example. Because it is essentially like a gacha. It does NOT mean if you buy One Piece volume you are guaranteed One Piece card for example.

Your accusations of Saito using this to inflate Shinobi sales is not true, because you get the card from ANY sales of manga under shueisha. This is why you see people buying up jjk volumes even though there is no jjk card design.

And this is the reason why OP card is more desirable. Because there are a LOT of designs, and the possibility of landing an OP design is low. Some design has low demand, some high demand (e.g. OP) because of the fans of the series.

This is why there are threats of verbal abuse to staff. Because people are angry they are not getting the cards design they want (BECAUSE it is given at random, duh)

And natsukomi bonuses changes every year. Previously they gave stickers, and then there were coasters, and there was a time a lenticular cards are given. If you are curious what was given previously, just search 夏コミyear in mercari.jp for example: 夏コミ2022

I do not get why it suddenly exploded this year, when it us nothing new. Maybe because the metallic card designs are nicer this year.

I would say it's because the Japanese media talked about it aka "bad foreign scalpers making money" and a lot of Japanese people are doing it now (saw a lot of twitter posts saying that a lot of these scalpers are Japanese).

The prices of food and utilities in Japan are exploding, meaning a lot of Japanese have to find another way to make some money, a sidework they can do freely, on their own time, with a simple smartphone. Aka scalping.

Don't you know? Whenever something I don't like happens in japan it's because of those stupid gaijins. Just like when KGB vol.1 sold out or when it won Tsugimanga.

The problem is because it's literally taking away chances of new fans getting into these series, turning the events and stores into a mess and if stuff like this works out, you end up pricing out people eventually.

Just look at how much this affects Pokémon TCG fans, kids aren't able to get cards anymore. If it was "good" for the publishers, the Pokémon Company and retailers wouldn't be coming up with measures to counter it. Entertainment companies need actual fans to be engaged with their products that can buy merch and be an active part of their IP, not a bunch of resellers trying to price out everyone else and flooding stores like swarms.
