I'm really happy about all this success for Hunter x Hunter; whenever I can, I go check out the comments in various different languages. I see many people excited and happy, and I see that there is still a solid fan base as we get older.

Just finished this one, inspired of course on the famous album. Still debating if I want to paint it, but the idea is to do a version for each arc

Personally, I can barely keep up with everything that is happening aboard the Black Whale. The author has been working on this arc for well over a decade now, and we only get one volume every two years. An endless stream of seemingly random characters has been introduced, and I seriously doubt there will be enough time to develop them all properly.


I am sure that, if I were to reread the entire series from beginning to end, many things would fall into place and I would have a much clearer understanding of where this arc is heading. Even so, time keeps passing, and the author—who, after all, is not immortal—has spent far too many years focused on the Kakin Succession War, while the entire Dark Continent has been waiting for us.

Can't deny that what I was looking forward the most was, indeed, the dark continent. But I'm enjoying the ride all the same.
Have you tried looking for the image recaps that appeared over the years? They certainly helped in my case, although a re-reading of at least current arc from the beginning should suffice, provided you have the time.

Honestly there's only one healthy way to keep enjoying the series. Accept the the regular and long hiatus between chapters, refresh your memories when HxH comes back (reread or a ton of good video summaries out there), have a good time with it as long as it goes, and then be ready for the next inevitable hiatus.

Personally I also view it as an extension of sorts, the series had a good conclusion with Gon meeting Gin and Togashi could've ended it right there. Sure there are still some plot threads open (Kurapika/Spiders as the most obvious), but I think most people would've seen that as a respectable ending. I know a couple who actually do, and one who simply decided to stop reading after that.

All of that is fine, but if you keep reading these chapters with the mindset of "wtf is going on, can we please reach the Dark Continent already???" then obviously you wont have any fun with it, and you're better off just stopping now and coming back when (and if) we get there.

I am just gratefull for every new chapter we are able to read.
To me everything happening after Gon meeting Ging on the worldtree is an encore.

I'm always wondering why is everyone so fixated in the dark continet, it's like they never read Togashi. After all this years one learns to try not to predict his stuff because lets be real, it's impossible. But we know for a fact that you can't do shit on the DC, it's just too much. And you take back a calamity with you for just setting foot on it. I can see the scenario were we encounter a calamity, deal with it and get the f out of the place and that's it.

Hunters exam ends with a tournamentent - Expects big fights: the mc gets knocked down and pass the exam anyways.
Yorknew kurapika vs the spiders - expects kurapika vs chrollo: they dont fight.
Greed island - expects the kids to win: they win XD but they are not taken to Ging.
Chimera Ant - expects Hunters to win, they barely stalemate the situation, takes a nuclear device to kill them. Mc has a power up? he ends up almost dying. The king is the villain? he ends up the most human.

They guy will always do the opposite of what you expect. Everyone thinks we will explore the DC. I'm telling you that's not happening. (considering how he writes hxh)
And here I am trying to predict the guy, maybe we will explore the place, that's how it works when you try to predict Togashi lmaooo

Yes Togashi likes to subvert expectations a lot but sometimes he plays it straight.

The return to Whale Island chapters introduced the concept of Greed Island where Ging was believed to be.

The subversion was that Ging wasn't there NOT that Gon and Killua never play Greed Island.

I feel like it will be the same for the Dark Continent. We will eventually get there. But what will happen there is anyone's guess.


I think the Succession War is a fantastic arc and I'm enjoying it.

I think there is this idea that the Succession War has to end and it's many plot threads have to be resolved before we reach the dark continent.

I don't agree with this idea. I think it is entirely possible and likely that the Succession War continues even on the dark continent.

Although I don't see anyone actually "winning" the succession war. I could be wrong but I don't think Togashi is that concerned with
who becomes the next king of Kakin as much as the current king of Kakin is. I think the point of it is to create a battle royale energy
which will be an interesting contrast to the necessary team work and cooperation that will be needed to survive the dark continent.

I believe Togashi PURPOSELY made the Succession War too big for every plot thread to be resolved on the black whale.
I think some threads will get solved, others will be abandoned and others will continue past the black whale.

The Dark Continent just seems very cool. It feels like it could be Swindler's Swamp taken up to eleven times eleven to the eleventh power.

You might say Togashi barely spent any time in Swindler's Swamp and yeah that's true but he had a whole manga to write then.
He couldn't spend too much time there. But now that Gon's story of finding Ging is resolved Togashi has a lot more narrative freedom
and the dark continent seems like it could basically be a sandbox for whatever ideas Togashi wants to explore.
