So why aren't Nue's sales increasing?

If Nue's story is all that you say, at the very least the manga should be on par with Ichi or Kagurabachi.
The same could be said about both in comparison to pre-anime CSM, MHA or even JJK. Why haven't their sales reached those before they had an anime?

They said that about Undead Unluck and there was no sales boost. Kill Blue and Yozalura had low sales, and many people said that Kill Blue had better production than Sakamoto's.
Well, UU & Yozakura were always mid seller hit (with some controverses at the start for UU). They got some very little boost and I guess that's fine. Also, we don't have digital numbers, that's a big thing we miss right now. And finally, they both got sequels, so it might do well enough for the standards.

About Kill Blue, yeah, the anime was good, especially for an axed manga. And that's also why it didn't have a big boost (not saying it would have sell a lot in physical if it was still here, but it would probably have a bigger boost than this). At least, it charted on Oricon (or Shoseki?) and that's already pretty nice.

We also need to forget the old standards. We don't have every numbers and physical is lower and lower every year. It got a longer momentum because of a favorable context (Covid, etc) but it's going down again and that's okay. Nowadays, a 50K physical seller is definitely a hit. And 20K is okay. Not bad. Though, I wish we could have more digital stats.

I don't think any battle shonen right now has what it takes to reach JJK levels, regardless.
Well, I agree, because the favorable context isn't here anymore. But that's okay, tbh. KGB & Ichi (for example) will both have a great boost in the new standards, that's fine.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Nue hasn't even had an anime announcement yet. And the manga debuted alongside Kill Blue, which already has an anime adaptation.
Heh, I think they're not comparable. Nue will have an announcement in the same range as Sakamoto, Akane, etc (I agree that's too late anyway, but that's another problem) while Kill Blue was just announced earlier because it finished. I think that if it was still there, KB's anime wouldn't have aired yet.

Unbelievable, everything I say you try to argue against just to be spiteful. You even tried to spread fake news about me.

Now, you want to try comparing Nue to CSM and MHA, just to defend your point.

Nowadays, everything gets a second season, even Gachiakuta had a second season announced. These days, a second season isn't a reliable indicator of success anymore.

I'm comparing Ichi and Kagurabachi to pre-anime CSM, MHA and JJK. Why couldn't their sales reach those?

????

The break was a month, and it lasted a month.
And why couldn't they have scheduled his return for 2 months instead of 1 month?

Is selling above 150k bad ?

Nue doesn't go above 30k and you want to make comparisons with Kagurabachi ?

You keep saying sales are evrything that matters to a manga and that sales that don't reach the highest level must be because the story is bad and stuff, so I'm just saying that these are different times and different series have different audiences. If some series don't sell more than 100K per month, it doesn't mean they are bad or anything related since even Kagurabachi and Ichi couldn't reach sales like pre-anime older manga, and yet here we are.

I agree that there's more sequels nowadays, definitely, but not everything gets one! Many animes don't get anything after their S1, more than 50% every season approximately. And of course the most popular one gets a sequel. I think it's still a good indicator. Maybe the standards are lower for a sequel and for anything actually, but we should adapt ourselves with these standards. That's okay, I think.

But that, too, is no reason to give series that sell below average superior treatment to series with better sales.
It's fine that Kagurabachi didn't get CP because of Hokazono's health, but that's no reason to put manga like Shinobi Undercover above it (and I like Shinobi Undercover).

What do you mean superior treatment?

Isn't it obvious?

Kagurabachi is, theoretically, one of Jump's main series, and it ranks below Shinobi Undercover?

Do I need to spell it out?

The whole point is that your standards are arbitrary and based on defending exclusively what you like and treating everything else as disposable.

Nurarihyon no Mago was selling 200k+ by volume 12 and the west treats it as a niche manga no one ever heard of. So can I say Kagurabachi is a niche manga and not mainstream because it sells less physical copies than Nurarihyon no Mago? Toriko is regularly trashed by western fans even though it sold 30M copies. Is everything below that disposable? That's your argument when you ignore how the market changed.

Undead Unluck, Nue and Yozakura are all hits and are treated as such by the magazine and sell above the industry average at the time they were published. Same way Kagurabachi is a Jump pillar just like Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach used to be, even though it's unlikely it'll sell as much as them if you only consider physical sales.

Digital sales are a major thing now, circulation numbers are more accurate than Oricon or Shoseki. And even then, the whole industry had a natural decline post Covid.

This is true, stuff changes with time. Also they way we see true success is not supposed to be based on western perspective but by a Japanese consumer who has more access and knowledge surrounding each series. So for any new success, regardless of how it was in the past is still a success.

Honestly I really do think Shueisha should probably start looking at how digital sales work cause I still they do not give as much attention that it deserves.

Okay, if my criteria are arbitrary, let's keep Kinato and cancel the start of the new Jump series.

I'm not the only one who bases their opinion on personal taste; I don't see anyone speaking ill of Roku, for example. They treat the manga as the great savior of Jump, the same with 2B because it's by Soraichi.

Because there's no reason to speak ill of Roku yet. It gets color pages, it gets good rankings on the TOC, it got a cover and lead color page extremely early. It hasn't released volume 1 yet so we don't have sales numbers. If it does badly sales wise, we can start casting caution.

And no one treats it as the great savior of Jump. They treat it like it might be the first real hit since Someone Hertz which it could be, especially since Under Doctor is looking more and more like a flash in the pan.

Also what are you talking about with Class 2B? Most people here doubt it completely. The only defense it gets for its lackluster/bad performance so far is "it could sell well for volume 1 because of Sorachi, but doubt it will keep it up" because that has happened to a ton of veteran authors over the years. Almost everyone thinks it's on borrowed time. Even the people that think/hope it turns it around admit it's likely cope on their part.

You want the top sellers of jump to always be top5 and be the only ones getting covers and such?

It's no use having a well-produced anime if the story isn't good. Stop thinking that every manga that gets a good quality anime will turn into a new Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Sure but KNY was also an exception among exceptions. It was doing better numbers than One Piece at its peak. It’s possible to get a big boost from an anime without reaching that level and that’s what I think the late and substandard anime stopped Sakamoto Days from being able to do

Fatigue prone aside, i'm always in awe that old mangaka was ever able to sustain weekly serialisations. I think oda's current serialisation schedule should be the standard for weekly serialisation. For the sake of the author's health AND maintaining readers interest.

I used to advocate for biweekly schedule but hitoner has completely lost all it's momentum ever since the switch to biweekly. It's torture waiting 2 weeks for just another 17 page chapter that barely moves the story.
