WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#1. No fights or personal insults.

#4. Don't bring politics or off-topic stuff to the thread, this is about Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and mangas, so keep any conversation about topics that aren't related about anime & manga outside the thread.
#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

8 hours until Nue's Exorcist anime announcement!

Any predictions for the studio? I will stick with the standard "Studio Pierrot" prediction lol

I also predict a Summer 2027 release (would be in sync with the story starting on Summer)

Wait, i will throw a more wild prediction for a studio, Bones, i was checking and Studio C, the one responsible for all My Hero Academia seasons is currently free with nothing announced right now, so i'm going to throw a prediction of Nue's Exorcist being their new IP

Praying for ufotable. It accomplishes two things:

1) The animation quality will make the average shonenhead rage because they perceive Nue as an undeserving ecchi
2) It causes Nue fans to rage because the earliest time for the show to release is 2035, with several years of gaps between seasons.

Not gonna guess the studio, but I will throw my hat into the ring and guess that no one here's getting it right - what Sugoi said the other week makes me think it's gonna be another curveball like cypic bachi.

Still doesn't feel real all the series that were still just starting when I properly picked up the mag are getting adaptations now.

Random input but i saw the anime Takt Op Destiny the other day and Reiko Nagasawa should 100% be the Character Designer. Most of those character designs look straight out like nue characters.

I'd say Studio A-Cat. These guys aren't widely known enough; it's time for them to work with Jump.

Alright, but seriously, I think it'll be a studio nobody knows, one that has only made 1 or 2 anime, or maybe none at all. A lot of new studios are popping up right now. A twist like that could really cause the reaction Sugoi was hinting at.

I feel like this Jump Festa and Jump Press is like a dream come true with all the promises and promotions we are or have been getting in these last few days. It puts it on the same level if people would go bananas for an amazing and delivered Nintendo Direct.

Also, a lot of achievements this year with Roboco now reaching chapter 300. Akane going past 200 chapters, Kiyoshi, Ichi, and Shinobi are now or over 100 chapters each. But finally, Someone Hertz is now over a year old and is past 50 chapters.

I wanted to say something about this whole Bleach and Naruto situation…

Even if we still don’t know whether they’ll come back to Weekly Shonen Jump, move to V Jump, or go somewhere else (even though we’re all pretty sure it’ll be Jump), this trend of using nostalgia just to pump up sales numbers feels really sad to me.

Taking a slot away from a rookie to give it to Naruto or Bleach is just… not cool at all.
Weekly Shonen Jump was created to give visibility to young artists who want to show their work and try to turn it into a real job (people like Machida, Tanimoto, Usui etc... artists who spent five years grinding out one-shots and finally got a chance to show what they can really do)

Instead, the audience has basically decided they only want One Piece, Naruto, JJK, and Bleach in the magazine… because they sell no matter what, because people would read them even if they were written badly, and because everyone can abuse the popularity of those titles for easy clout-chasing on social media (and in the end it’s a win–win for Shueisha, because they’d sell more issues anyway since people will read those series no matter what)

Meanwhile, series like Cannon Master, HAL Formula, UNDER DOCTOR, etc... just get flooded with insults and low votes because in 10/20 chapters they don’t “reach the level” of people’s favorite series, which only got there after 500 chapters (or 1200, even if the huge drop in writing and art is right there in front of them and nobody seems to notice)

As for me, I’ll keep reading more new stories and giving a real chance to rookie authors (like Natsuki Hokami's Greykeith, for example)

Yeah i'm sure this 1 ~ 3 volumes short Naruto series is totally stealing away the opportunity from the next big hit by a newbie to start on Shonen Jump lmao!

Come on guys, y'all get 1 out 20 spots for a mini series and the world turns upside down

Depends for me how they handle Bleach, Naruto & Gege (just gonna assume a JJK spin off for now?) all coming back.
Like if they publish these 3 one after another then I don't got a problem with that. However I don't see that happening since Bleach Hell Arc is gonna be a longer run probably.
What annoys me is thinking about TOC & Covers during that time - like instead of a less popular series getting 2 (and instead only 1 for their anniversary) Naruto has the chance to get 2-3 Covers; JJK 2 and if Bleach is a longer one then also 2-3.
Ig just gotta wait and see until Jump Festa lol

On a good side tho this might get returning Jump fans to read new series's? maybe? idk

I’m trying to be in the middle here. I agree with the idea that we need to focus on new and young talent. However at the same time we have these veterans who have also beared fruit. There is an example of this when we go back to the 1990’s and up to the 2000’s when Captain Tsubasa and Jojo’s returned with new sequels and parts before transferring. Now I will not discredit these series because they are legends for a reason. But a part of me wonders and this is where I am starting to second guess this. Do people here think this conversation and putting our nostalgia is affecting the magazines real democratic from entering the magazine? Even some of the stories also has older protagonists that are in their twenties. Now I know that the focus is still on children and teens, but it’s just an observation. I’m saying that with what we had with Sakamoto Days, Kill Blue, and Under Doctor. I don’t mind Naruto and Bleach returning as they were the pillars that helped Jump out of the dark age, but will agree that I don’t want them to overstay their welcome. Let’s think of it as, “reinvigorating interest” back into Jump and discover what’s new to discover. If it really was the case, that it became a repository that lacks creative thinking and is relying on all these authors and artists from the late 90’s up to the 2010’s, then Jump would have never changed. But I think that this year, right now is the change as we will see less of our beloved veterans that date back to the 90’s and 2000’s and focus on the artists from the 2010’s and 2020’s. Nakano was that bygone era and with Saito, despite a couple of exceptions, is trying to focus on that future with the artists that we have seen.

Naruto Shadow Rising is just a short serialization to celebrate the whole anniversary thing of the franchise going on, this isn't even on Saito, it's just that he isn't dumb to put down a Naruto mini series, Nakano got the Naruto Gaiden going on for 10 chapters in 2015, this isnt anything new.

Btw, the Jujutsu Kaisen thing going on, no one knows (at least between the regular leakers) what is actually about, is just that Gege is supposed "to do something in the magazine soon", could be JJK, could be new stuff, it can be just a one shot like Hori.

Bleach is the only that is supposed to be a real serialization.
