This is an issue in West too. People don't like current Jump because they are too attached to their 10s series. I can't picture the Keze guy for example trying to check current Jump because that attachment to 10s series and laziness to try to check anything new.
It's not really the same because western readers actually stopped reading most stuff. But Jump still has massive readership in Japan, with way more than a million readers, and is much bigger than even 2nd place, they also have the best selling series in the market. Shinobi Undercover would be one of the major Shonen Sunday titles and get covers and lead color pages regularly if it was there.

Sales just went down in general for all magazines. Nostalgia boomers will nostalgia boomer, it's their thing. Many Golden Age Jump readers consider the One Piece, Naruto and Bleach era to be a trash decline age as well and that actually had a WAY bigger decline than what we're seeing now where Jump barely lost readers after Jujutsu Kaisen ended, in fact it just followed the gradual decline of the physical market that exists for a long time and it's a lesser drop than Magazine, Sunday, Corocoro, etc drops.

Have they considered reading other magazines for their mental health? Other manga, these aren't the only 15 manga out there.
Most of the people saying this stuff don't actually read anything. They just say this because that's what millennials do nowadays, social media algorithm loves to promote nostalgia slop because it's easy RT and like bait, besides other reasons that benefit their owners financially and socially.

If you think Gear 5 can be divisive in English speaking communities, it’s significantly more explosive on the Japanese side. It’s just online discourse at the end of the day
Oh i saw the G5 discourse happening on there, hell it might be still happening today. When elon musk decided to auto translate twts this stuff started to appear more and more
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Lots of people use it, it's botted as hell and anything counts as views on Twitter, even just scrolling by this algorithm bait slop. It's just the usual nostalgia trash and JP Twitter always giving engagement to anything negative.
Yeah i remember seeing G5/ Boruto hate trend on jp Twitter back to back some weeks ago lol

And i mean, It's not as if in the 2010s there weren't several "slops" too

Kubo:As a general weekly schedule, I would spend about three days developing the story and creating the name, or storyboard, then another three days drawing the finished pages, and take the remaining day off.
Horikishi also did it similarly which makes Hokazono's schedule look completely deranged with the 6 day storyboarding by comparison my gosh. Bro could really use a biweekly schedule so he doesn't have to ink in one day.
Kubo:At my fastest, I could ink around 15 pages in a single day. I think most artists would manage around five, so I was probably quite fast.
Like seriously this type of thing can't be healthy for Hokazono.

Those are some very worn out volumes and oddly the north american versions. Wonder if he got them when they were new or bought a old set online on a whim.

Fashion statement, medical braces/splints,drawing assist or all of the above

Slam Dunk and DB ending in succession really did a number on Jump

Edit: There's a vid that hypebeast uploaded too

Inking over old hell szay storyboard. Odd choice
👀

Edit2:
I’ve seen a few tweets criticizing Shueisha’s Jump editorial department over Kagurabachi being dead last in the lineup, but isn’t that just letting your feelings run wild way too much? There are even people screaming stuff like, “The editorial department needs to publicly explain the reason for this lineup!” Are you seriously demanding that kind of transparency and fairness for *every single* Jump serialized work? By the way, Haikyuu!! has been dead last before too, you know
I'm seriously creeped out by all these conspiracy theories flying around, like "the editorial team tanked it as punishment" or "they unfairly penalized the author." Don't they know that getting bumped to the bottom for late submission (whether it was actually late or not, I dunno) isn't some kind of punishment—it's just a printing schedule issue?

This is generally how I feel when this topic pops up :errr

Yeah. That's why the current talk is funny, this era that these fans are acting like some kind of glorious past was actually just during/after the biggest decline the magazine ever had and everything after that was just a decline that can be explained more by market changes than quality. Way more magazines, digital, free online manga, more entertainment media options, rise of social media, economic issues, population decline, etc.

If you take Kagurabachi as it is and release it in 2010 it would sell 700k copies monthly.

There are plenty of good manga out there but Jump is definitely in a transition period and it’s not good right now for certain kinds of genres. Sports jump series in particular have suffered greatly for nearly a decade despite experiencing a boon in seinen. Fantasy action adventure with awe inspired worlds and unique power systems is another that’s taken a massive hit; felt like every year we’d have one piece inspirations with some like Toriko really taking off.

Series like Ichi, Nue and KGB will explode with an anime most likely but right now with SD ending, OP is the only major action series with an anime. Definitely need those anime’s so there can be some big tentpole type series (also means they can’t botch anime’s like they did with SD and s1 of CSM; I don’t watch anime but they didn’t have the collective cultural hit effect I thought they would)

They don't have anime's imminent. I expect Ichi to be fast tracked like KGB. UEK and Shinobi will likely take as long as Nue did. As of now though, neither are doing numbers like Ichi and KGB

Funny enough, i already accepted that kgb will be moved to another magazine.

It's never getting axed so that constant last placed placing likely means they're in a transition to move it to SQ or J+. I can see it happening once this arc ends and we go back to chihiro.

They put the series in another 1 month hiatus and makes it redebut, hopefully in j+.

Question, if it ever becomes a j+ series, does this mean we can't talk about kgb in here anymore?? The J+ board in this site is so dead, i can't even discuss MAD.

We discuss Ruri Dragon on here and the worst case scenario for Bachi is that. Jump isn't letting an IP as big as Kagurabachi escape their branding, they still promote it the same as Ichi on everything external.

Anyway, I don't get why mangaka like Horikoshi or Hokazono gets scared of their TOC placement when their manga sells better than 90% of the titles in jump (it was like 70% for hori)

There is no future where their manga would get axed for bad toc placement at this period. Their own health is the only possible cause for any sort of cancellation. (And if they fuck up like Matsuki did)

They barely promote ruri nowadays despite still being on wsj. Kyoani has been doing more promotion for it despite barely showing anything yet.

Speaking about Gear 5, i personally think that every single transformation after Gear 3rd has been an overdesigned mess.
The tomfoolery concept of Gear 5 sounds clever and entertaining yet it's design takes no visual ispiration from old cartoons like popeye or steamboat willie eventhough oda repeatedly said it does.

Oda should have took a class in the Akira Toriyama's school of laziness and do no more than a palette swap to Gear 4 and Gear 5, maybe just thicken the outlines to make it look like old cartoons, or redraw him in a western cartoons artstyle. (like how All Might looks but for cartoons in the 30s to 50s)

There's a reason Gear 2nd still has more hype than anything that came after despite very little design change. (It's not even a palette swap in the manga.)

I love the idea of Gear 5 but i will never like the ugly swirl design.

Tetsuya Chiba, the legendary Ashita no Joe author have passed away at 87, despite being mainly known by AnJ he actually published a manga on Weekly Shonen Jump called "Mosa" from Issue #20 of 1969 to Issue #2-3 of 1970!

Obs: The issue Mosa started was the issue where Weekly Shonen Jump became a weekly magazine.

Yeah I heard about it on discord. Really sad, but at the same time 87 years is a life well lived.

Now I guess we wait and see when this supposed 'Hell Arc' is going to be announced. I thought it would have happened by now. Maybe after Sakamoto?
Yeah, "after the anime," "after end Sakamoto," "at Jump Festa," "in 2027" - what's the next excuse? Obviously, if you claim an hell arc announcement is coming every month, you'll hit it eventually, but don't act like you knew it all along like some insiders this summer (Broseph, not talking about you, just generally speaking)
The original leak information from months ago about Hell Arc is that "After Sakamoto Days ends Bleach will return", that's it, there was never any date of estimation of how much time will take included in the original info, is simply after SD ends, if you guys see/saw any post putting a date on it, it's a fake/inaccurate addition.

I don’t think there will be an announcement at Jump Festa; *Bleach* won’t have a "Red Stage," which is the venue used for announcements of this kind. Besides, it doesn’t even appear on the poster...
