Instead of playing with fire by having their possession in their half, giving Portugal free counters (the freekick ronaldo scored was not the only time they approached the goal in the last minutes) they should had gotten a quick player in the last minutes to play behind Portugal's fullbacks that would need to push forward (like the whole team) to desperately score. Then depending on the situation go for goal or win a corner / draw a foul. And yes, even in the 80-something. You have to kill the game, you do it like that, only a "green" team fucks around like spain did.

I understand that pique and Ramos did not mark Ronaldo but I cannot say that you should stand at the side on the corner flag at the 80th minute and possession should always be done at the halfway line not the opposition half as it could be a threat for counter attack so it cannot agree to your points...if Spain would have won the match then that possession would have been the most crucial time but as Ronaldo scored with magic then that possession became the villain so please don't judge only by the outcome of the match.

I'm not judging by the outcome of the match. I did the opposite. Was talking to my friends about how the broadcasters WERE DOING THAT just because Spain was winning and a bunch of us agreed their tiki taka (that Pep HATES) could fuck them. And it did.

Well I have to agree with @Hardy here.

Whats the point of having all that possesion to do the same amount of attacks as Portugal? They recovered with those two goals and got the 2 - 3 but instead of using that complete advantage they had over Portugal game-wise... they start passing the ball between each other with a couple "tries" here and there.
It was a matter of time that Portugal gets over it and scored for the tie, with or without that incredible shot from Ronaldo.

So Spain blattantly underestimated Portugal and paid for it, now the group turns more interesting.

Underestimated? Spain played their style and it wasn't good enough against them today. That's how I saw it anyway. CR7 capitalized off of a bad penalty and Dea Gea mom's-spaghetti'ing all over himself (third goal doesn't count, because that was pure wizardry).

Portugal crossed the centre like three times in the entire first half and scored two goals; a penalty and one even more free. Spain played really well in the first half after the 5 minute mark.

Did not see the second half, so I can't comment on that.
