Hello people of One Piece! One of the good moments of the week is when the Edited Mangas of the new chapter of One Piece come out, usually on thursday. It's a good moment because, if you were strong-willed enough to resist peeking at the spoilers (and I'm the first that isn't always so strong), you'll have about 18 pages of surprises, twists and funny moments. I read other mangas, and they're rarely like that, so thank you Oda-Sensei. The 614 chapter, in my opinion, is a clear example of why One Piece is so good. We wondered for months about Jinbei's message, and it was something noone expected. We all wanted to see Robin and Franky, but we didn't! And with the cover, we'll have things to discuss for months, maybe to find out it was something totally un-important. So, let's start!!
So the journal arrives in Fuusha village, were all it started. The major is, as usual, unpleased by the fact that one of his citiziens is now a notorious criminal, while the folks cheer at their hero. Beer for everybody. Or maybe they're cheering at the bartender's newborn? Yes, Makino has a child. Pretty new thing in One Piece, someone had sex! and it was the sweet "sister" of Luffy. Now people, don't get over-excited. The father can't be Ace. First of all, he is blond, and most importantly, Ace is too long dead for being the father. The child is less than six months old, so Makino got pregnant about one year ago. I don't think she did the Rouge thing, since she is perfectly fine, while Rouge, if i remember correctly, wasn't. So, who is this kid? My guess is that he is just makino's baby, and it's a way from Oda to show us how time passed in the world. Another guess is that he could be Sabo's child, but I don't really think he is. Other guesses? It's up to you
What's done is done. It's the title of the chapter, and it's a rule in life. You can't have regrets, as they're useless. The natural consequence of this rule is that you should think twice before doing something. Well, Zoro really isn't that kind of guy. There's a fight? Let's join and give it all I've got. But all Zoro's got is waaay too much! The royal guards are defeated. The King is taken as a hostage, and the ministers too. And so, after Drum, Arabasta and who knows how many others kingdoms defended by supercrappy guards, another kingdom falls to a pirate crew (well, baroque works was more a criminal organization but the boss was a pirate, after all). Why don't they hire stronger guards? Maybe to not raise taxes on the citizens? Who knows. Nami, Brook and Usopp preach Zoro about the mess, they just wanted to make a quick run, but that would have been a mistake too. As Zoro points out, Luffy isn't there, so they couldn't just quietly leave. And now that they think about, there are more problems in the way. Sunny is uncoated now, and the old log-pose doesn't work on the new world, so Nami needs info about that too, before sailing away.
The next pages show us how not much changed, after all, in these 2 years. Brook still sings even when he shouldn't, Nami wants treasure, Usopp gets hysteric and Zoro.. well Zoro is still Zoro. Hilarious the description of his crew, that would have pissed off everybody if they were there. resulting in a saloon fight. Fukaboshi and his retarded brothers, aka the "three strongest" arrive, and Zoro, acting as a Vice-captain (or a bank robber) should, takes the microphone and asks that his crew is reunited and they are allowed to leave Fishman Island. We learn Zoro's bounty raised to 160 millions beri. We already noted that Zoro became pretty famous in those 2 years by the reactions Cariboo had after seeing him, now we know it wasn't for some good deed like founding an hospital or writing a book about Yoga.
Til now, it's all clear. We still don't know if Fukaboshi will accept Zoro's conditions, but he doesn't really seem too pissed off. Is he super-wise? We'll see. But here he goes, he drops a bomb! Jinbe's messages! DON'T FIGHT HODI and MEET ME AT THE SEA FOREST. I have a few theories about the messages.
First theory: Hodi is actually a good guy and the Neptunes are the evil ones. If that's the case, Fukaboshi is lying, Jinbei is imprisoned and Hodi wants to free him, the Sea Forest is a trap for the strawhats
Second theory: Hodi evil, Neptunes good. Jinbei doesn't want Luffy to fight Hodi because this time he wants to clean his own mess, and is still ashamed for the Arlong's incident
Third theory: Hodi is a puppet and Jinbei needs Luffi's help to fight against the puppeter
And here we see a barrel fighting against some guards that want to arrest Chopper and Sanji. Wait, it isn't a barrel, is a raccoon! Maybe is a raccon that swallowed a barrel whole. To those who think that it's Chopper with some new power from a new kind of Rumble ball, no way Oda would make Chopper so ugly. He's just a talking barrel skilled in martial arts. Obviously Sanji, up again, wants to go seeing the mermaid princess. I love you Sanji, you are my favourite Strawhat with Franky, but if this time you die for real, don't expect any tear from me
.
Scene changes, and we see Luffy trying to persuade Shiraoshi to take this damn walk outside. Of course she wants to go, she just wants to be asked more than once. She wants to go to the Sea forest. Why? is there an amusement park there? Why would Jinbei want to meet Luffy at an amusement park? I expect this Sea Forest being some kind of sanctuary, a kind of "all Blue" but with plants instead of fishes. After a little while, another Decken attack starts. Brook, who is challenging Sanji for the title of worst pervert of the crew, is happy to hear the order of King Neptune "Save my daughter or I'll spend the rest of my life poking holes in the Thousands Sunny from below". But this time there are no weapons, but pirates (with weapons)! That's why Hodi needed Decken: he had the army, but he didn't have a way inside the castle. And they're definitely pretty good pirates, to be able to reach fishman island. Will they fight? What was promised to them? freedom, maybe. Only Zoro and Co will be able to save the king now, since he is tied in chains.
Now, I like my goldfish. He is not so smart, but fishes obviously are not smart. Look at Megalo, he makes Gonbe look like a pure genius! By the way, i like my goldfish, but not even Luffy could persuade me to "wear him" like a coat! That is definitely a freaky image, if you ask me. Anyway, Luffy and Shira are heading for the sea forest, and leave the battlefield (maybe). Gross.
Predictions and conclusions
Great chapter. I liked the barrel, I hope he'll join, but now Chopper disappeared too, like Franky and Robin. Jinbe's messages shuffles the cards another time, we still don't know how this arc will develop. We learn that in the New World there'll be more tecnologies to know to be successfull, and i like that, I hope for some brilliant ideas by Oda about that.
In the next chapter... well predicting One Piece you're headed for disasters!
But i think Hodi (and probably Decken, if he doesn't follow Shiraoshi) will join the fight in the Ryugu palace. Will we have some new about Franky and Robin? Those two always liked each other since they met, are we sure they are just "collecting infos"? Go for it, Franky. I don't think Luffy and Shira will reach the Sea Forest immediatly, but i look forward to see Jinbe, but that could all be a trap. That's all fellas! Hope you enjoyed. If i didn't note something interesting, please post about it. Bye
