Hi to all.I've got an idea for the writing contest : the mods or someone else can come up with an opening sentence and a ending sentence for a story/poem/etc,to be more specific,we(the participants)are given an opening sentence and an ending sentence and we must built a story/poem/etc by using that opening and ending sentences and we must create a story/poem/etc between the opening and ending,one that must be related to the opening and ending sentence.An example could be this(opening):'When she arrived within the house,her hopes rose high at his appearance.
...(the story that we must create)
(ending):'In the end,everything went wrong and she fell to the ground,her hopes destroyed.'


Just a suggestion.

I think that's an interesting idea. It could be put in a category like 'themed writing contest' because the opening and ending sentence would shape the story in general. It might be easier to do it with short story, though, since you have more rooms to improvise your writing. But doing it for poem would be quite a challenge, personally thinking. XD

I also like the idea, but sentences could pose the problems for poetry that phio_chan suggested. If this idea were to be done, it would be more likely that phrases would be used instead for the opening and ending. That way, you could incorporate the phrases into a sentence or use the phrases in free form.

Well,yeah,I've merely shared the basic form of this idea,you can shape it however you want.I agree that with the poems,it would prove a challenge,but even then,everyone enjoys a good challenge.


And,well,another idea would be this: since there is a contest every month the theme of the writing could be something related for the month/period of the year.For example,since it's august the theme might as well be something related to summer,beach,heat(since this is what happens in august),or another example in august 1822 (random number) a great battle between bla-bla and bla-bla was held,and we must write what happened then,kinda like portraying the battle in our view,or in december 1900 an OZN came down on Earth and we must write about it and whatsoever or things similar to this(historical events in the respective month).

Well I mean this could be a good idea, but I've got a question.. If a themed creative writing contest is created for the next month's contest will the original creative writing contest with no theme still be around, because I do see the challenge in the themed writing. But I am one of those type of people who have to be motivated to write something, I can't just write about a certain theme and I know quite a few people who are like this also...

Given that the summer contests will only consist of August and September, I was thinking of not trying a theme the creative writing contest until autumn (unless you guys really want it for September ).

What will happen is that we will have one month for the creative writing contest that has a theme. There are three months to a season, and at least one of those three months will have no theme so that people can just submit whatever writing they wish. That gives one month for a theme, one month without a theme, and another month for whatever (it could be another theme, another month without theme, or something totally different). For that third month, if anyone has any more interesting ideas to share, please feel free to do so.

For the third month,what about a feeling-writing,what I mean is to be given specifical feelings as a theme and create short stories/songs/poems about/that prove/include that feeling(example : feeling 'happiness' -poem about happiness,'revenge' -short story on how revenge ruins your life,and so on).

Well isn't that pretty much the same thing as a Themed writing? If possible for the third month we could make it a FanFic contest or have both a Themed and Non-Themed contest running at the same time.

Well the fanfic seems the best option to me,one month with a theme,one without a theme and one for fanfictions(which is pretty much a themed writing).

Fanfiction for the third month is a superb idea. Half of the MH creative writing section, located here, is devoted to fanfics. A fanfic can easily be a short story, poem, play, song lyrics, etc. just as long as it is dedicated to a specific manga or anime series.

So, I think we are going to with that setup: one month for fanfiction, one month for writing for a specific theme, and one month that is open to any sort of creative writing. Thanks, everyone, for all of the great ideas!

Since it's been decided as the Third Month... Will the Fanfic be free Reign on any Manga or will it be decided on which one it will be about?

Another random idea, but if we want to dedicate the last month for fanfic, what if we asked people to nominate some of fanfics members posted on the Fanfic section? Members later would vote for the best fanfic nominated. So one month for a themed writing, one month for free writing, one month for people's choice of the best fanfic in the fanfic section to compete at the seasonal art contest? The fanfic could be based on a certain series or it is a pure original work. ^^

Your idea gave me another idea : for the fanfic month,what about a poll in which everyone can vote one manga for which they would like a fanfic(example Bleach,Naruto,One Piece,FMA etc).The manga with the most votes will be the manga for which the fanfic should be created.Tough it's pretty much what you said.

Ah, so it's a themed writing, but the theme is decided by the members? That's a nice idea as well. But in your idea, people create the fanfic, not submit or nominate a fanfic which has been posted at the fanfic section, right? Either way, I think that is an interesting.

We have lots of ideas going on here, and all of them are interesting.

The September Contests will officially start as soon as we announce the winners here. But that doesn't mean that you can start now. )

P.S. The submissions for the contests that didn't have enough entries will be carried over and added into the September Contest.

The answer is no for the September contest. Although, most likely we'll come up with something like that for the next month.

I haven't had enough time to figure out everything regarding the theme suggestions made so far.

The September Art Contest voting is over now.

The results are supposed to be announced tomorrow but I'll go a head and announce the winners today, since the results are out. You can read about the results here in the news post.
