Info AMV Contest (Tentative)

Hey Otaku Cafe!

The staff is thinking of planning an AMV contest. The basic idea is for members to create AMVs and have them compete in various categories, for example:

Comedy:
This category will mostly be about an AMV that'll make you laugh.
Ex:
An AMV About TV
The Chibi Things That Kill
Naruto meets Disney Music

Honorable Mention: BROOKLYN RAGEEEE

Technical:
Which AMV has the nicest effects that flow the best with the song and different anime/videos used?
Ex:
Around The World
Confession to the Dancefloor

In Sync:
This category is all about the video that matches up with what the song is saying the best. Whether literally, or symbolically, that's what this category is all about.
Ex:
Blame It On 2009: A Good, Good Year
Blow Your Brains Out
Metropolis - Center of the Sun

Best Overall:
This should be obvious

What we would like to know is whether or not there is any interest for such a competition. Please use the poll to let us know if you would be interested in participating in the contest, and post in this thread if you have any suggestions or if there's anything you'd like to see in this contest etc. It doesn't matter if you've never made an AMV before, because this would be an ideal time to start~

Sounds good to me. Maybe the categories could be; Action, Comedy, Drama. And then out of those that entered there could be a Best Synced, Best Effects, Best Anime Mix, Best Trailer and Best Overall award. Depending on how many people are willing to enter, it would be cool to have a Top 3 or 5 in each category and then honorable mentions, Although, that wouldn't be necessary if the competition is done by voting.

I was wondering about that too, why do comedy have its own category and not the ones Naruffy mentioned?
Anyway as an amv maker I like this idea alot.
I'm glad that a post was made at the home page. I was thinking that not many visit this part of the forum so they won't know.

Do you think voting is the most ideal way to select the winners? This is how it is done for our inhouse art contests too, so I'm thinking this would be a good way, but anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you decided on the rewards yet? Rewards are always attractive..
That aside, The number of categories can really go up to a high number..so its a good idea to keep it low and I hope there's more people into this.

Hmm, what about short amvs?? ones that are 2 minutes and under?? and what about those MAD videos?? do those count?? and what about parodies??

And what about AMV'S that were made by others?? ones that we didn't make?? can we nominate them??

Having judges is an interesting idea, though it might be a bit tough to find them We could consider enlisting the help of some well-known AMV makers on YouTube to be judges

We haven't decided on the prizes yet, but it seems custom titles are now becoming common prizes, lol. Perhaps a profile award and a front-page interview just like the scavenger hunt as well as the MH art competitions... And of course, fame and fortune!

We also haven't decided on the specifics for the AMVs, like how short/long they need to be. What are these MAD videos you speak of? Parodies... Interesting question. They are technically still AMVs, so I would say we allow them, though I'd need to discuss that in more detail with the rest of the staff on the project.

As for AMVs made by others... We want to focus more on AMVs made by MH members, but I think it would also be nice to cast some spotlight on really nice AMVs made by external people. Perhaps we can have a category for that.

As you can see, we don't have a lot of details worked out at all Like we said in the OP, we're just testing the waters to see whether there is an interest Keep the suggestions/questions coming, though! The more the merrier!

Well when it comes to genres we might not want that many but id be nice to have
Romantic amv
Hard Metal amv
Tecno amb
Etc....

Also judges could also be staff members or do you want people who really know the subject?

The thing with the categories is that we'll definitely want to see how many people are willing to participate before we decide to break that down.

As for judges, we've got a few AMV enthusiasts in the ranking, so we're probably not going to go as far as to ask people off of Youtube.

For the prize, we can do what Saladesu said and maybe you can have a custom signature made by Coffee.

Sounds interesting. I don't really have time at the moment though, like at all. When are you planning to do that?

Also, I love the idea of short amvs very much. It is more difficult to cut a short one than a longer one and would be more challenging. And I think it it would be way more comfortable for the viewers too

Great Idea, if I find time I might even participate.
Problem is that Germany blocks an infinite amount of music tracks x_x So, to follow this contest Germans will probably have to use proxy servers.

MAD amvs are well, just an alternate name for amvs. That was what japanese name their amvs and then everyone started using it

I don't mind if we do judges, but maybe a poll could be added for a viewers choice award?

AMV's could probably range from 30 secs to 3 mins. It usually takes a lot of time to make an AMV any longer than 3 minutes.

This shouldn't be seen as a serious competition where your videos must be good to be qualified. Just have fun and submit whatever your best is.

What I wanted to ask is why not MMV (Manga Music Video) instead of AMV (Anime Music Video)? Or is MMV going to have its own category? Or are they regarded as the same thing?

We didn't really think about MMVs, but if we included it we'd have to create a whole new category, and then we'd have a scarce amount of videos for each category. I'd rather just keep it as AMVs only right now.

Hmm, I'll talk this over with some other people, but for now I personally don't see a problem with it as long as you think that it'll fit a certain category. We've yet to really decide that.

I like the idea of different categories (Comedy, Action, Drama, Sci Fi, etc.) and maybe subcategories like Best Trailer, Anime Mix, Sync and whatnot.

I also support the idea of using voters instead of judges.
