I wont' recommend AntiVir. My friend's laptop got infected so badly by trojan; antivir didn't manage to detect any of them. I installed my avast into her laptop and cleaned up around 100 viruses from her laptop. XD

Like eni said, maybe ur friend didnt update the virus definition. I set it on daily and so far my computer works just fine. May God forbid anything happens to my computer, some of my porn comics is still on my pc.

Well the best ones I know are McAfee and Ad-Aware.

Ad-aware is for spyware, not virus.
McAfee is too troublesome. It comes with dell all the time but once the subscription is over, oh hell break lose. The notification is so troublesome I decided to just delete it once and for all from my friend's laptop. Guess the replacement? Avast professional edition 4.7. Until now, the laptop is still fine. Also, when you run both McAfee and Avast at the same time, when a virus popped up, Avast is still the one that detects the virus. XD

I fail to see how you can install two anti-viruses at the same time. Usually the pc dies when you do.. Then again I am not THAT knowing when it comes to technical stuff. But you should really try comparing Avast with Nod32. For me, any other anti-virus program (or virus) has yet to defeat it.

I can run both anti virus at the same time without any problem whatsoever. I don't know how it works out but yeah , my pc can do so. I've done AVG Home Edition/Norton 2005, AVG Home Edition/ Avast Pro. 4.7, Avast Pro 4.7/AntiVir(another friend's laptop) and Avast Pro4.7/McAfee (my friend's laptop). It worked out fine, both PC and laptop.

Maybe something with the bios? After all, all of my PCs have been bought from Scandinavia, so I don't know. Most of my crashing experiences were also with installing Kaspersky, so that might be it.

Generally there should be installed only 1 antivirus for pc because of conflicts betwween softwares which do the same thing.

well. i have always used Mcafee siince the company i work at provides it for free for all its workers. and have used it for as long as i remember. of course they provide other software for trojan's, spyware, etc.

i use a combination of Avast and Housecall, housecall is a 100% free online scanner that uses java its relativly fast and easy on the resources

in my honest opinion norton is bloatware from hell and completely useless not to mention u have to keep paying for it ;/ i have seen one too many computers taken down in my field of work x.x

AVG is a really good anti-virus software.
None of the others work for me. I heard that Norton has a virus inside the software.

I ended up choosing this a while back.
It's not a resource hog by any means and it basically works fine for my needs.

If you want to get a paid antivirus program, go for NOD32. For free, go for either AVG or Avast. I've used both, and both are great, but I havent had as great an experience with Avast, since it was bad with resources :P for some reason.

Im using the brand new edition of norton Anti-virus. It jsut came out with Windows Vista and the program has been completely revamped. It's much smoother and doesn't interfere with the speed and system processes. It actually works really well, despite the previous versions. I used AVG on my old computer though. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either.

If you don't want to pay for it AVG is the way to go, its free and decent.

If you are willing to pay and have minimal system resources tied up go with NOD 32

I used a lot of Anti-Virus i try:
-Norton
-Mccafee
-Kaspersky
-AVG
-Bitdefender
And finaly i choose avg is better for me, he don't use a lot of resource & he find and remove all virus.

Recently, I bought an Acer laptop that came with Norton Anti Virus and Norton Internet Security 2007. I had a trial version of 60 days. So I used them for 60 days. After that, I dumped it after another 1 or 2 months. Then I tried installing Nod32 into my computer and it detected a whole lot of trojans that Norton failed to detect before. I thought Nod32 was my solution. Then I downloaded Kaspersky and I tried it on the same day I uninstall Nod32. Guess what, it detected no trojans but all the ugly worms and adwares that Nod32 failed to detect. I uninstalled kaspersky after 12 hours or so because it was too troublesome; it had too many pop ups of "allow", "deny"...etc. I installed bitdefender, ran my computer through it and it found nothing wrong with my laptop. No virus, no worm, nothing. I decided to trust myself that my computer is really virus-free now. So I uninstall bitdefender as well. Right now, I have tried

Norton
Avast
AVG
Kaspersky
Nod32
Bitdefender

My conclusion?
I deleted everything and run my computer without any anti virus. XD!!!

Once in a while, I'll plug in my U3 avast anti virus and run a scan. Up till now, it is still pretty clean in there.

Leen, no anti virus?!! That's like... that's like... riding a bike without a helmet, very dangerous. And if you're using flash disc, it's even more dangerous. I lost a whole year of work due to the virus in flash disc (when i was using Norton), but then i switched to Antivir, it's ok. The file in my hard drive is lost, but i still got backups.

I agree to some degree that Nod32 is good. It is small in size unlike some other bulky useless program *cough*norton*cough* and it scans fast too. It fails to detect my worms though. T___T Kaspersky was the one that did the cleaning for me, but it has too many pop-ups. Bitdefender is kind of hard to use without the *cough*crack*cough* because it wouldn't want to work properly. So I ended up deleting everything and ride a bike without a helmet.

Right now, I install back my Nod32 and run a scan on my computer. Still clean. XD I guess I'll stick to Nod32 for now. It is pleasing to eyes too.

Don't EVER use norton.
