well, hey.

me and some other friends of mine had an argument, about periods (the dots in the end of the sentence)

the question is, are periods needed in end of bubbles or not? if yes, why, if not, why?

what is prefered, with or without? and again, why?

i'll be glad for as many answers, because i'm really not sure about it already myself.

i didn't knew where to ask, so if it's not the right place, i'll be glad if a mod can move it to the right place.

how about here? ^^
( didnt know this forum existed myself actually XD )

and i for one always notice the absence of periods for some reason, but i still guess it looks better without ... at least the period at the end of the bubble that is ^^

i learned that you should have some kind of punctuation at the end of the bubble. The only reason i dont add punctuation is if someone is saying someones name or something.

if you end a sentence, it is proper english writing to end it with a period. That is just what i learned.

the "." is usually not suppose to be in the bubble, when a character talk it's never in a complete sentence and period just mean the sentence is ended. That's the best i can explain

Big groups such as Inane and Shannaro use periods, but personally i hate them, and never use them :p

It's not that weird without punctuation in Japanese (or maybe I'm already used to it), but it is really weird without it in English. I mean, English has strict rule on when to use commas, semi colons, etc, but not with Japanese. Japanese is my first language but I still wonder sometimes if my punctuation in Japanese sentence is okay...

So yeah, I say punctuation is needed in English.

I think periods and other punctuations should be used in the bubbles.
But in the end, it is really up to you, or your group.

I rarely use periods, because most sentences end in exclamation marks or question marks. I only use them when characters are talking calmly or face to face.

The only times I don't use punctuation at the end of a bubble is when the sentence is continued in another bubble. Read Fruits Basket and you'll see this often.

I prefer to remove the dots when typesetting. When a sentence is continued in another bubble, I use "..." at the end of the first and the start of the secont bubble ^^

If there is a punctuation, question or exclamation mark-in a raw- we all agree that it should be somewhere in the Edited Manga as they were.

For periods at the end of sentences in a bubble i usually end or continue hte sentences myself so i usually dont mind. So i dont really mind.

Now how about the triple period ... that signifies the continuation of a speech in another bubble--

but it's really preferable to delete a period after each sentence...the only exceptions is
...

and always remember to include punctuation marks like these
