Oh I have a question too, why aren't there more drawing contests? Seems to me there's more writing or even photography contests that are held. I find drawing contests more interesting tbh.
Coloring ones are interesting as well .

Haha I'm no pro. But right now if anything it looks like there's only really a few drawing contests.You can always try your luck with the literatture ones.
Most of my drawings skills I acquired by myself, through books and practice, and I guess being left handed also helps. But it's way too difficult, so it's best just to take art classes.

I agree with Ladylola. Learning to draw is like 99% practicing and 1% is talent. Honestly, art classes are nice and of course they will learn you a lot there and if you find it worth spending your monry for it, I would say go for it! However, there are lots of tutorials on the internet like; Youtube, DeviantArt etc.. They show you how to improve your drawing skills, how to correct your anatomy, how to make backgrounds, how to color your drawings traditionally and digitally, for example; what/which side is the light source in your drawing and where do you put the shadows etc.

Chagi, If I were you I would first check those amazing tutorials made by different kind of artists and try them out! (Thats what I did when and I still look at new tutorials that people post). There so many of them, so much different styles.. it's amazing. Totally worth trying them out.

Thanks Magi - my problem is that I am more of a 1 to 1 learner.
I have tried similar tutorials for lets say Photoshop and some drawing ones you mentioned but...
It doesn't work for me as well as others.

Well said, there are currently various ressources from which you can learn how to draw. Not just books but also tutorials on Deviantart and YT....and they're free. But the main issue is the motivation, it's hard to keep it at the same level. When I started learning how to draw I was super excited and it allowed me to stay positive in a period of my life where I was at my lowest, but after a while it becomes hard to continue to be as motivated. For example you would need to work at least one hour a day to start seeing some result, and everyday. After a while you start getting distracted by other things, and right now I'm having a hard time getting back to drawing and stuff. But I found that taking part in contests can be a good way to get back on the saddle, so to speak.
That's why art classes on the long term are a better solution, assuming you get enough attention and feedback from your teacher. Because I often find that learning in a class with 10+ more people doesn't get you the same amount of attention you would get from being alone in class basically or even watching a video.
The point being learning how to draw isn't impossible like many believe, it's rarely about talent although it is the thing that makes a difference between an artist and someone who is just good at drawing. So it is possible, just that you need to be very patient and passionate about it, in order to learn.

I can post it here, as soon as I get my computer back (my MOBO and CPU died) because my only copy is there T~T
but mine was really silly... besides the blackout there was a bomb in the building huahahaha just to make things worse XD

On the drawing contests...
What we have are 4 groups of contests: Banners and Sets (composition); Poems and Short Stories (Writing); Drawing and Coloring (kinda more traditional); Photography (we didn't divide it so it looks like there are more of it XD)
they actually have the same number of contests (in the whole year) plus we have the season contests that are special...

Drawing ones were having less submissions than the other categories, so we added specific coloring ones because we felt there was this barrier in a way. I know people who think their drawing isn't good enough :T
And that is a shame, the main criteria for me is the idea behind the drawing, your creativity is what make the great pieces of work we see here
but I agree, practice is what makes you improve, and besides the tutorials you can find in the internet, I invite everyone to post here their work in progress whenever you want and ask for advice, I know these are called contests but collaboration is also a part of it, ask questions on anatomy, technique, software and so on and I'll try to help the best I can

And for those waiting, the next contest is a coloring one! But first I want to see some banners! :P

Speaking about writing...I have an idea for a different contest. Yet, I'm not sure whether it will be popular

Basically, I would like to propose a calligraphic interpretation contest, in which a text is given. Participants will interpret it in their own style. It is an unpolished idea, but maybe we can go from there.

Concerning the banner contest,when I first read the theme I immediately thought of Guts vs Grunbeld. Once again I was inspired by Berserk, maybe because it's actually my favorite manga. So I think it fits, what better than a big fiery dragon apostle to symbolize fire? And that fight was especially badass,for many reasons but mainly because it's the first time the berserker armor is used, which is really useful.

Hopefully I'll be able to take part in the next contest as well since it's a coloring one.

It's understandable that your favorites will be the first things that come to mind, you probably have better understanding of the themes from your favorite stories too.
I decided on the Fire theme and Ace came immediately to me, not only do I love One Piece, I love HIM, I could not have used anything else to illustrate the theme XD
but there are a lot of characters that have a strong relation to fire out there...
