Go for it, lola XD

I wanted to submit something too, but I'm not good with poems, not even in portuguese, making a poem in english is just ç__ç
I know that feeling. I'm ok with making poems in French, but I never tried making one in English. O.O

Poems in english are extremely hard for me.
The sound doesn't match the graphic word like in portuguese, we have the sound=end letters (vem, tem, quem).
So, every time i try it, it takes a lot of time to think in the rhyme cause the sounds don't match the letters sometimes (wait, bate, eight).
And i use google to help me, i had to type "soul rhymes with" and i got the suggestions i needed.

Could have fooled me asc chan. Well I guess the correct answer is you did fool me lol.
Your poem comes of very natural - would not have thought you had so much trouble in making it.
Great job!

Yeah, portuguese is easier to deal with in that case. I usually search for synonyms when I don't want to repeat a word and I never thought of doing the same for rhymes ._.

I have to say I also don't have that great of a vocabulary...

I have submitted an entry! :allthe

The inspiration for this poem is.... Bloodborne's true final boss, called Moon presence.:XD

It's pretty metal. :wtf

Btw this is my first attempt at writing a poem in English, and it's been years since I last made one period. So I'm kinda surprised I was able to write one at all.:XD
And sorry if there are mistakes, or it's not accurate in terms of verses and whatnot, I simply forgot how to make poems.

Umm... those words don't rhyme :s

Why not goal, or bowl, or mole?
A poem about a furry little footballer, sitting at home (eating dried worms from a beautiful bowl), seeing the moon and dreaming about flying... Depressed in the fact that moles can't fly...
:(

Why does a poem have to rhyme anyway?

I know it's a bit late (what with you having already written a poem that contains rhyme), but couldn't you (or future applicants :cheez) have just written some free verse?

These are called 'eye rhymes' i.e. they look similar in spelling, but they don't sound similar. For Soul, you can have various things like 'hole' 'troll' 'stole' etc.
Only words I can think of that rhymes with Foul would be 'howl' or 'cowl.'

Personal preference? I know some people that feel more comfortable if their poem rhymes, but I agree it is not necessary

Is your poem about lycanthropy lola?
I already explained it a bit earlier, it's about Bloodborne's true final boss sequence.

Basically the player walks in a certain area, with the red moon behind him, when the entity known as Moon presence appears and grabs the player.
I thought it was very poetic, the way that the moon literally embraces the player.
:XD

Actually, if I write one, it will be metered but not rhyming.

(Same as with the previous writing contest, I'm not reading anybody's work until I've decided & written my own, but wow there are a lot of replies to that thread!)

Yeah, I definitely prefer playing around with meters, rhyme would come later if any. Different meters empower the poem in so many more ways than your typical rhyme could.

Hi takneeque. You can't set a specific speed with metred language, so it's more like rhythm than tempo. :)

I'm sure metre exists in every language's tradition of poetry. I think it's what makes a poem (or, say, a line of verse in one of Shakespeare's plays) sound like poetry. In the case of English, every word has not only a certain sound to its pronunciation, but also a certain level of stress/emphasis that goes into every syllable. (Sentences do too actually. Some words can change meaning depending on the syllable stressed, while many sentences can take on new meanings as well.) In poetry, if you choose your wording carefully, you can craft a rhythm for the poem to take as a person reads. This is useful for setting a mood (via a rhythm that is rushed, slow, steady, erratic) or guiding people to an important word or phrase that you want them to notice.

I'm not sure how much heed experienced modern poets pay to metre these days as compared to the importance it was given in school, but just speaking for myself when I do write poetry I find it helps me structure my poems and choose words more easily. Generally I already know the mood I want and I don't write a poem unless I have some sort of system of imagery in mind (which is what I'm struggling with settling on for this contest incidentally, lol). Just speaking for myself, rhythm comes out organically as I work with the topic, imagery, and mood I'm going for. But just the same as with everything else, I typically need to tweak it endlessly even after the work is supposed to be "done."

I love sonnets but to fit everything in the structure is not an easy task, at least I always had problems with that @___@
