You could just make who voted for who visible, and discard self-cast votes if you wanted it that badly.
Though, voting for yourself as an egoist has a nice to ring it, if you ask me.

No, I'm against making votes public. It's just like with the community awards. There's no need to create a potentially awkward situation when it doesn't need to exist. Some people would certainly not be comfortable with that and might simply not vote as a result. For the suggestion of disallowing votes for yourself, that could be considered but personally, I'm not sure that would work out

Votes are supposed to be fun and anonymous as well, along with, liking the particular individual or artists work /tase/ interpretations /effort on the theme or category.

The votes in the art contest polls have been private (as long as i remember unless specified otherwise) and for a lot of the reasons already mentioned above. I think it should be kept that way (private).
Once in private - it cannot be changed to public. Unless VB changed some rules since I mod-ed.

No, well it wasn't a reason but more like a suggestion. If you weren't allowed to vote yourself, odds are you'd be more interested in the other submissions since you'll choose from there. I suppose the main thing is that you're supposed to vote for which work you think is the best. Most times, we think our things are the best after all.
Anyway we have something in store to help alleviate voting issues from next year so there's that.

I can't imagine self-voting will be much of an issue in this comp.
Anyway, if winning really means that much to someone, then I am not going to get in the way of their 'victory'...

I certainly don't believe mine is the best, and would be shocked if anyone else did

Votes can be only made once and can't be changed by the members.
Now there is a trick around it by subtracting your vote value by 1 and adding a numerical value to the person whom you wished to vote for +1.
I am not sure if Haku's or nana's powers allow that.

Might need a global to help.

so..i thought i voted for the best and after rereading entries a couple of times,i liked another one better..i am such a klutz ...neways,it looks like to be too much of an effort,with all the maths involved in it..,and it also won't be private then.. so,let's leave it be... i might win because of this..

Personally I've always thought it would be nice if no one could vote for themselves in contests like these. Then you have to be sure and choose carefully from among everyone else's submissions.

Eh,why's that? Let's say if someone did some incredible piece, that could objectively be the best, he can't even vote for himself, knowing that it is by far superior to other pieces? And he prolly wouldn't know at first who would vote for him. I think that's pushing it a bit too far, and we were mostly joking me and Charlie, because he often doesn't get the votes, and have won no contest all these years...
And it prolly wouldn't make a difference, even if you end up voting for yourself, if your work isn't liked then you don't have much chances of winning. And I don't think I saw a rule that says you absolutely have to vote.
I don't see what's wrong with the system, it's best to keep the vote anonymous too. On the other hand maybe we should do something about contests when there are many submissions like this one, maybe have two rounds of vote, or a multiple choice option. That would give more chances of winning in general.

Lol you say that and yet it seems to me that the goal of something like that is primarly to try and win contests. To me there isn't much of a difference between the two, because if you can't vote for yourself, then others can't vote for themselves either. And like I said it rarely makes a difference if you vote for yourself or not. No one can force you to vote, if you genuinely don't know who to vote for. I myself had experienced that a couple of times, so I didn't vote, because there was so many good entries that I literally didn't know which one was my favorite. So you're supposed to cast your vote anyway, even if you're not 100% convinced of your choice?The goal is to choose the best entry, no?
Also it seems to me that's taking it way too seriously, if there are more and more voting rules. For something that's supposed to be fun it would become extremely rigid, because not all contests are the same. Writing contests get more entries, while drawing ones not so much, and I can say the same for the voters. So with a limited number of voters we tend to see in the drawing contests, we can face a situation where there's not enough voters. In such cases voting for oneself could help decide of the winner.
Again it's just me, I'd say let's give everyone the choice, even if they want to vote for themselves. Because it's all about freedom right?I thought you guys valued that more than anything. But if it's in order to make things fair, sure why not?Nothing will change imo, we'd still face the same problem of not enough voters, drawing contests will always be less popular, and all that for what? Seriously, I only came online to like your post Loly-chan. This was exactly what I was thinking as well. I fully agree with you. I mean come on guys, it's suppose to be for the fun, no? For example, look at my poem entry.. I really did my best on that one, took me hours to do it xdddddddd

But hey, you know I guess this difference from opinion and I respect that. Don't we join this because we like art so much? Honestly, I myself don't really mind if I win a contest or not, for me it matters that I joined the contest and that I can share my love for art with you guys together because that's something that we have in common, no? Even if it's for the joke or not, imo. Expect if you really join this to get the victory etc., well that's totally fine, no?

Don't worry about the leaderboard. The compilation of the points is a bit more complicated than it seems and requires time. Rest assured that it will be done as soon as possible.

Hmm seems to me it would be more efficient to update the board each time the result of a contest comes out. That would make it more easier to keep track of the point count.
