Re: xi0 thread.

I see your point, it's kind of weird, but at the same time it's somewhat legit I believe. I sometimes say it myself. If a team completely dominates a game, has way more chances on goal (no danger in front of the team's own goal), and in the 88th minute the opposing team catch a lucky ball and somehow manage to score, it feels rather undeserved. Still you can only praise the other team for making their chance(s) count.Every time someone brings up a soccer team "deserving to win" I want to shoot myself. This concept is unique to soccer I guess, but it's utterly alien to me. It just sounds stupid to me for some reason. If you didn't win, it wasn't by accident...

I kind of find a clearly superior team more deserving of a win. But it is what it is. The phrase is odd I agree, since all that counts is getting the goals. In other sports here you can definitely say that a team outperformed the other, but that doesn't mean they DESERVED to win. I remember a game last year where a completely wrong and awful call in the NFL resulted in the wrong team winning since they undeservedly were given a TD when it shouldn't have counted and there was no time left. There it makes sense. But that being said, the game doesn't come down to one play, so you only deserve to win if you do win.
I guess it's just the phrasing really.

The sport, any sport, would be way less intriguing if the superior team won every time. So yeah.I kind of find a clearly superior team more deserving of a win. But it is what it is. The phrase is odd I agree, since all that counts is getting the goals.

True enough. The sport, any sport, would be way less intriguing if the superior team won every time. So yeah.
