I can't but disagree with anyone recommending to watch this, especially to someone who's already intent on reading the source material; it's not worth spoiling the manga for this crap. I believe you've already seen how they were able to ruin some of the best parts of the manga for no good reason at all, and just because some scenes have been recently handled better it doesn't mean that some other great moment won't be rendered terribly. Just in the latest episode I can count two moments they've handled poorly: the "cave party" and the encounter with the Skull Knight, where they even rushed the dialogue. And by rushing the dialogue, I mean that the voice actor suddenly started speaking as fast as he could as if they needed him to condense as many words as possible in a limited time frame. For a character that has always given me the impression of uttering every word with gravity and solemnity, too. Not joking, and I noticed they were doing the same in previous instances as well.
Honestly, having caught up with the manga since a while ago, I'm just watching it because it's a Berserk anime, but the product itself is amateurish at best. The sounds are embarrassing (the infamous *CLANG* when Guts even lifts the sword from the ground...), the voices are far from how I imagine the majority of the characters' when I read the manga (I'm just waiting to cringe at Schierke when she'll pop out) and they make idiotic moves like the rushed dialogue I mentioned, the fighting scenes have a questionable direction with zooming in, cutting in and out, weird effects and what have you, it's edulcorated in ridiculous ways like the missing nipples and the Lick Donkey you've already had the pleasure of appreciating, and we've all seen the sad state of the animation. To top it all off, it's not faithful to the original material and they cut or alter stuff that when it's not only cool, is also crucial to the understanding of the plot or character development. There's probably something more I forgot, but I guess my point is clear enough already.
If you really have to, give it a watch just to laugh at it like it's a parody or a cheap imitation when you'll be done with the manga, but ONLY when you'll be done with the manga. Otherwise, you'll just risk spoiling your first read of some great moments solely for the sake of watching a sub-par rendition that offers nothing of worth. The one good thing that comes with it is the insert song from Hirasawa, but even that they can't fit properly. They already recycled it for two scenes within a single episode as well, for instance.
