I think that the gruesome scenes and the heart breaking moments are what draws most of Berserk Readers (The sick people <3). That's why we love this manga.
As I said before, people differ when it comes to what kind of emotions they are looking to stimulate when they read books, watch movies or listen to music. Manga is the exact same thing.
As for the rape part, In my entire life, I have never been so angry because of a fictional work as I was when I read that scene. That raging face Guts made was a reflection of my feelings at that exact moment. I think that a successful fictional work is one that succeeds in making you share the same feelings with the protagonist.

No one could tell you whether you could handle the manga or not. You can try it and if it gets too heavy for you to bear, then you can quit. But I don't think you will. Once you reach that part in the story, you wont be able to stop anyway.

You can skip the rape scenes. Casca's rape is "long", but you just have to close your eyes if you don't want to watch. Actually, except for Casca and Guts, there is no other gruesome things like that, the majority of other characters are spared. And when it happens, it's for unnamed characters you only see one chapter. And, it's been a very long time since the last rape scene happened.

Nevertheless, if you're stuck with these scenes and want to continue the story, say it here. We'll guide you, like summarize what happened a little bit after these scenes, to let you continue the story. I don't know if it's a good idea, but let's try.

That's the thing though, that scene is pivotal towards Guts motivation as a character, since we've arrived at a point where what he wants more than anything is for Caska to be back to her old self before that traumatic event caused her to just shut down. Without that I don't think Guts would of ever felt such a morbid motivation towards Griffith since it's not just Caska but his old memories of how his father, who he trusted sold him to some man to be used for his own pleasure, as a child, a teen, a kid still who did everything to prove himself to his father who he thought was growing to respect him sold him for someone to get himself off.

It's a deep scar that he was able to heal with Caska but then it was like history repeating himself, Griffith like his father selling out his whole brigade for his own desires and then taking it a step further to hurt Caska and sadly thinking about it, it's because of what he did that that kid that they ended up seeing guided them through the ordeal.

No Falconia wasn't there before. Griffith/Femto brought it forth using Ganishka's body and it's also been hinted that it might be a resurrection of the ancient Windham.

I am still waiting for time when he falls down into the worst possible despair and become werewolf. His inner demon is wolf-like so it is possible. If you want to kill bird(Femto) you have to be wolf :D GUTS THE FIRST WEREWOLF!!!!!

He doesnt have to sacrifice his beloved ones. He can abandon his humanity, his emotions, his kindness. He can sacrifice things he was the most proud of. Do you remember those words about Casca? Guts sacrificed a lot for her but it doesnt mean that she wants the same thing as Guts and for me she will run away back to Griffith. This is final despair of Guts. He will use Behelit and become one with his berserker armor and with his own demon. Human can not defeat demon. To be able to defeat demon you have to become one yourself.
Since this is not relevant to the latest chapter's discussion, I prefer to answer it here.
That's not how the sacrifice works. In order for the sacrifice to work the person needs to sacrifice something that is dear to them. The more strong the sacrifice is, the more powerful the demon becomes. This was seen with Griffith, but more importantly with the Slug count, who had to sacrifice the dearest thing to him, which turned out to be his daughter. In the end he couldn't do it, and got sucked into the vortex of souls instead. This all happens in volume 3 so feel free to go back and read it.
When it comes to Guts, what is currently the dearest thing to him? You guessed it Caska, and I would say his companions after it. But his humanity cannot be more dear to him than Caska, for whom he decided to stop his revenge just so he can save her in Albion. And this whole trip to Elfhelm is because of her, he wants to find a safe place for her, and eventually find a cure for her. She is the dearest thing to him, and I doubt that any amount of betrayal can change that.
Besides how would that exactly go? Guts is a sacrifice, if the God Hand show up they won't be welcoming him with open arms as an apostle, rather they will do anything they can to collect his soul. The behelit isn't confirmed to be his either, we've seen the behelit travel till it found its rightful owner, so who knows if it's even Guts' behelit.
So I'll say it again, I'm REALLY skeptical that Guts would become an apostle, not like that, and if he ever abandons his humanity it could be something else entirely. Something similar to SK who doesn't look like he's an apostle, but instead has a connection to fairies or the Elf King.

The whole manga revolves around the struggle of a mere human and his quest for survival (with a dream of victory). For the sake of argument, I will say that the Behelit really belongs to Guts. If Guts succumbs to his inner demons and makes a deal with those unholy beings, all his previous efforts, countless battles, sleepless nights and the the times he was on the verge of death would instantly become meaningless... I think that there is absolutely no chance this would happen. I think that for Guts, winning with the help of the god hands is worse than defeat.

So far, Guts defeated many apostles. He managed to win a few fights without the Berserker Armor. He fought huge opponents and demon-like beasts with immeasurable strength and won... The whole point of these adventures is to prepare for the hard battles in the future. We've seen that the magic weapons gave the group a huge boost. No one knows what will happen in Elfhelm... What kind of weapons or information they might get... So, saying that you can only defeat demons if you become a demon yourself is going a bit too far.

Like mentioned above, Guts using the power of the god hand would defeat the purpose of everything. The sacrifices of the Band of the hawk, casca's trauma, Griffith's betrayal and ultimately his fight against the apostles and his struggles as well as deaths of others along the way. It'd destroy the point of all that. I believe his use for the behelit would be as a means to access the god hand to defeat them or so but not to cut a deal with them. They're also technicalities involved. Guts is a sacrifice and one that escaped the eclipse when he wasn't supposed to. Doubt they'd want to give him power. Also, the sacrifice needed would be the most precious thing and I'm certain Guts wouldn't be able to comply. Besides, it's demeaning and hypocritical of his character to do so when he's hunting Griffith for this very same reason. Even as a mere human, guts had been defeating apostles and growing steadily. Not exactly ruling out the possibility of him becoming something else perhaps due to the berserker armor but certainly not via the god hand.

And it's not like Guts is powerless, I don't think many understand how important the Dragon Slayer is (it's Guts sword in case someone doesn't know it). It has been soaked in the blood of so many apostles, that it's odd is becoming very strong, as stated by Schierke. It could be a key to defeating the God hand, if it turns out to be something like the sword of resonance (SK's sword). And there must be something that can be done about the berserker armor, perhaps the Elf king can lift its curse, so that Guts can use it without getting consumed by it.
And if Guts ends up losing his humanity, it might not be by choice. It could be simply because the armor consumed him, with him dying in the end. It is strongly hinted that the previous user of the armor is Gaiseric/SK, because of the skull shaped helm. Before Guts had it it was in the shape of a skull, the helm adapts to the inner beast of its user if you will. Guts' inner beast is a hound. So with that in mind, and because of what was said about the previous user dying in the armor, it could very well be that Gaiseric got consumed by the armor, and with the help of the Elf king was able to come back as SK.
So it wouldn't be him sacrificing his humanity because he wants to get more powerful, it wouldn't even be by choice since that would involve him dying first.

And he decided to forget about his revenge to save Caska. When it comes to his character , I doubt he will take again the same route as in the blackswordsman arc for example. He realized that he made a mistake by abandoning Caska, and in fact he was just running away from his pain. Miura gave him new companions so I doubt he'll go back to being the lone blackswordsman of the first volumes. It doesn't make sense in terms of character development, since that would be going backwards and erasing all previous character development.
Guts has new companions and he could find new allies in Elfhelm, it would be weird if Miura decided out of the blue to make Guts sacrifice all he believes in, even though he still wants to get revenge on Griffith. So him sacrificing his own companions, when he initially set to get revenge on Griffith for those reasons is really difficult to imagine, and it goes without saying that it would be disappointing to see Guts be just like Griffith in the end.

Is there any news on how long this regular release would last? I am tempted to catch up with the latest chapters, but feel unmotivated - even as a fan - to do so if the serialization would go hiatus in a month or two.

It's confirmed that Berserk will be returning next month. So no break in sight as of now.
I'm gonna say if there's a break it could happen by the end of the year, since Miura rarely works during the holidays. But fingers crossed for a chapter that could come out earlier than that.

So far I think this new schedule works, hopefully Miura will be able to keep it.

Hmm... I guess I am going to skim some chapters before I make any decision.

Haha, I doubt that will happen. Maybe once he makes enough material for a tankobon or two, he'd need at least several months for hiatus before picking it up again, just like always.

Don't wanna spoil you too much but
we could be changing POVs soon
But I doubt we'll see something really significant this year.*coughElfhelmcough.*
It's hard to know for sure with Miura. It's a possibility I guess, I'm curious about why he can't commit to any form of schedule.
