it has been awhile since i dropped it like 7 years or so, i thought the manga is about to finish sorry if i bothered anyone tho.

Nah, it hasn't progressed much at all by any normal standard in that time-span, unfortunately.

Wasn't a bother, I was just dubious on whether you were actually interested or not. The thread was inactive anyway.

Oh yeah, the deformed baby of hers and Guts was used by him, so technically Guts is Griffith's dad now.
I hope Caska never regains her memory so she won't try to stop Guts from killing Griffith. He can revert too apparently(the child is not deformed anymore and looks just like his parents) and he appeared a couple of times to his parents, but he is benevolent it seems.

But look on the bright side you get to read those chapters all in one go, and don't have to go through all the wait and having only a couple of chapters released a year...

Oh I see so you liked the Golden age more? Nothing wrong with that, it usually is regarded as some of the best parts, because of the characters and their interactions mostly. Now with most of the BotH gone, and with Caska being a vegetable (which can be funny at times) it feels like the manga has lost some of its charm, which was present in the Golden age arc.
Now it's mostly fucked up stuff like troll rape and whatnot which can be nice, especially seeing Guts completely go berserk and fuck shit up but it really feels like it's taking forever to see Guts even come close to reaching his goal which might not be taking revenge on Griffith anymore.
But it is still worth reading imo since if not you'd be missing on some of the more awesome Guts moments, although we haven't seen as many of him lately.It was mostly Griffith realizing his dream of getting his own kingdom blargh.

This part is what has me the most concerned. I want a faithful full on adaptation of the manga, and if they're too concerned with censorship I'm not sure that will happen:

● Please give us your thoughts on the manga Berserk.
I've been reading the manga since before the auditions, but this serious dark fantasy manga has a lot of extreme depictions, and it makes me curious to find out if we really can make a TV anime out of it, and how much of it we can actually show. Since the manga's still ongoing, I don't know how much we can adapt, but I'll do my best!

You don't say, it's not even going to be faithful to the source material, and chuncks of it will most likely be skipped because of censorship....

That was to be expected really, anyone who expected a faithful adaptation at this point was just deluding himself, as for the CG well I already made my point in before.

And this bit is pretty interesting as well:

Berserk has a lot of history and fans, so we're trying our best to please the original fans without betraying their expectations, and also to make new viewers find the series fun and exciting. We really wish that as many people as possible understand the allure of Berserk with this anime.

So while they do hope they can live up to the expectations, they're not just worried about the old Berserk fans who have been following this series for years now. They want to attract new fans, however Berserk is not a manga that you can easily recommand, because of the obvious violence and nudity and all the crazy stuff. The point being this shouldn't appeal easily to new fans, since obviously the demographic is a bit more mature, hence why they would be tempted to censor it and tone it down so they can appeal to new fans. Yet another reason to see them skip the ultra violent stuff.

Yea I get that. As long as they keep the cornicopia of supple boobs, I won't mind too much. The anime should still be pretty graphic.

I hope not. Doesn't japan have a rating system like pegi and the esrb? Why not just lead the show off with a massive disclaimer?

Japan seems to apply the same rating for movies to anime, they either have non restricted stuff that everyone can watch, and other stuff restricted to 15+ and 18+. It's nowhere near as detailed as PEGI. Only the uncensored version of the third Berserk movie was rated for 18+ iirc,and they released two versions (one uncensored and one that was) too... So that clearly shows they could censor it.

Well my reasoning behind it is that they're not really trying to appeal to a mature audience per say, which they should do, but they clearly want to attract new fans. So this is why some censorship is inevitable, and like JJBA (which is a shounen btw) the scenes that feature some massive gore or violence(like heads exploding or even a severed hand) get censored.
And Berserk getting a 18+ rating would be bad in that regard. It would restrict the kind of audience they can get, so it would make sense to just censor it. Guess we'll have to find out, I don't think there's been any news about the rating yet.

Lol I would say you should always keep your expectations low so you'll avoid getting disappointed , not just about Berserk but in life in general...

Attracting new fans =/= appealing to a more general audience. I'd be really surprised if this series doesn't air late at night. I still think it's a safe bet that parts of it could be censored, with uncensored versions being released with the Blu-Rays.

I really hope it's not CGI Otherwise I will not watch it--its unbearable.

Nothing will beat the original anime. If it's going to be animated like the movies, then I will be very disappointed....

Sadly looks like it's going to use CG a lot.:/
But the faces could still be drawn, it looked that way in the trailer, so looks like they're just reusing the technique they used for the movies.*sigh*

Puck should be featured fairly early since this is the Blackswordsman arc.

I get that desire to broaden the audience but look at the success of Deadpool. A comic book movie that was rated R and it did INCREDIBLY well. I guess the point is if you're loyal to the source material no matter how mature you will discover new fans anyways because there is a reason Berserk is held in such high regard and it's not because of censorship.

I think Deadpool is the exception (and I didn't find it that great tbh) but the issue here is what they can show, I don't think they can show rape and if they do it will be in the uncensored version that could come out later(same as the third movie), or if they decide to air this at a much later time and with an "R" rating.
So they're already limited in the kind of audience they can get, which should be people of 18+, of course in Japan which is the only place that really matters. They're going to think about the Japanese market first and foremost, and people there have their own habits when it comes to watching anime etc.
But clearly you have the guys working on it wondering what they can show, so no matter how things go they'll most likely cut chunks of it, there is no way to have a 100% faithful adaptation imo, unless they really want to please the hardcore fans which isn't the only thing they're worrying about.

And needless to say that what we want is not always what we get in life, we all have our own expectations when it comes to a Berserk adaptation. I have already accepted the fact that there can never be a totally faithful adaptation to the manga, that also manages to translate Miura's art in the most faithful way possible. I hate CG and I hated its use in the movies, so there is virtually nothing that can get me excited about this adaptation at this point. But as a Berserk fan,it is normal to be somewhat interested in it, so you just have to accept how things are and give it a try, unless of course it turns out to be a really awful adaptation in which case I don't see why I would bother watching it, even if I consider myself a hardcore Berserk fan.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm sure I will love the adaptation no matter how much they end up cutting out. The point I was making about Deadpool is that it did incredibly well in the box office, it didn't have to be a good movie. The reason why is because it was faithful to the deadpool character which is never going to be PG-13. The success shows it's possible to stay accurate to mature material and still be successful.

That being said, Japan is a whole other animal. They even by law require censoring PORN of all things. It's porn... doesn't make any sense. So ya there is no way we will see rape scenes, they can allude to them sure but actually have them graphically displayed like in the manga? Will never happen. I just hope they stay true to the story and don't cut out important characters.

Best manga can be said to the one which is completed and this one is far from it. It's better to ignore this manga for years and start reading it when it is finished although it seems unlikely.

You don't need to wait till the end of Berserk to know that this is one of the best manga around. There's simply nothing that comes close...and what we're supposed to drop the manga just because the author is too busy playing Idolmaster?

No nothing yet, but why you ask? I thought we should just drop it and come back to it later.
