That's a lot of very interesting information smokeesid, thanks for your reply. I was assuming that Buddhism was the framework you were using, but forgot that Buddhism itself was born in an environment and time where Hinduism was the leading religion and influence (and Buddhism itself has been very influenced by Hinduism). I think Guts' personality isn't all the same as Skullknight's though, or even his former personality when he was alive. Certainly there are a number of parallels that can be made with Guts, like them both being strugglers and fighting against a terrible and almost non-escapable fate; them both wearing and having wore the Berserker armor; the connection with a capable Witch during that time, among probably more.
There is the interesting case that there are parallels with Griffith as well, as both were reportedly brilliant generals and/or warriors, conquerors in some ways, and very influential and ambitious figures of their time. Both also likely held the crimson behelit, as I think The Egg of the Emperor is called that way because it once belonged to Gaiseric.
So in some ways we can draw parallels with Guts, and in others with Griffith. I'm curious to see what Skullknight's personality was before being consumed with whatever feelings or pain he holds and living for the fight against the unholy.
The theme and stories of ancient cities lost over time, or due to cataclysms or other mysterious reasons have been popular and alluring. Atlantis is possibly the most popular one, by accounts it's told to have been destroyed in very short time by a cataclysm, much like what happened to Gaiseric's capital in the story, which is a plot thread still shrouded in mystery.

That's quite interesting now. I'm aware there are a number of myths and accounts quite worth looking into, including by academia that generally tries to brush off anything that doesn't fit with the standing model of civilisation. Gobekli Tepe should be the fuss of archaeology right now.
