Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced
You'd expect that, but just ask Blade of the Immortal fans about THAT adaptation

Wikipedia says he's an author, actor and musician, who's apparently quite famous back home. His music has been used for various anime, TV shows and video games, so it's likely his voice (and/or track) we're hearing in the background.um.. it says voice: Gackt. does that mean that's Gackt's voice?? or just his music or something? I've never heard his music or anything so I don't really know.
Agreed. CGI is just bleh when its used like this. To be honest I hate it when they "cartoonize" the CGI. Like that god awful Gundam series. Anyways its a similar style. 3D with cartoonish skinning, Just come on if they're gonna do CGI go all the way. Go for the best and top quality you can possibly get. I mean... how incredibly amazing would it before for the detail to be near the levels of advant children? I don't see why not. Berserk fans wait months between chapters, I would gladly wait 1-2 months for each 30min-1 hour episode if its that detailed. They need to do this manga justice, its my only qualm. But beyond that I have to be happy that they're doing it.Thanks for posting these, GAT.
I'm going to be honest here, I'm kind of ambivalent about the (over)use of CG. On the one hand, it looks pretty good--the animation is very fluid and sufficiently detailed, in my opinion--on the other, well, it ain't 2D, which I feel would allow for a more stylised approach befitting a manga like Berserk.
Yeah, I'd definitely prefer high-grade 2D animation to the mish-mash of sorts we have here.

Most of that 30 million is production costs after the fact. The technology and tools to actually create that CGI would remain the same, just more time would be put in to it. I am a 3D Animator by unemployment's design and really its like saying Naruto costs a lot less compared to Berserk, because Berserk is much higher detailed. The materials are the same its just a matter of time and effort. I just expect them to make the anime as much of a masterpiece as the manga they're basing it on.So let's say that Advent Children cost around $30 million to produce.
1,5h of material...
Money are answer, because of them they cant make Berserk in FF:AC quality. Its not as simple as "why not".
Same. I've no problem with 3D animation per se; done properly, it can be just as impressive and effective as its 2D counterpart. It's only when it's used in this way, where they try to integrate it with 2D animation, that it becomes an issue.Agreed. CGI is just bleh when its used like this. Don't forget manpower. Time and effort are expensive, moreso than you'd think. Most of that 30 million is production costs after the fact. The technology and tools to actually create that CGI would remain the same, just more time would be put in to it. [...]
It is much easier to make advant children level CGI than it was a few years ago when the movie came out. And the idea is the same amount of man power, just take longer on the releases to give us something worthy of the manga. And ya the whole point to 3D animation is realism, not this stylization. It always makes the characters end up with no emotion. They could easily keep it 2D as you said and I would be more pleased -- but then again we will have to wait and see.Same. I remember one of the earliest attempts at this style--characters were 2D, almost everything else was not. Both sides were relatively well done, yet they meshed very poorly on screen. It felt disjointed, like two independent projects had been squashed together. Moreover, it lacked consistency, with 3D models often being used in place of previously hand-drawn objects, and style-wise, it wasn't much better.
Granted, that was age ago now, and 3D techniques have no doubt improved since then. However, I've seen several anime try something similar in recent past, and there is never a seamless blend (it really breaks immersion when I notice it, too).
That's my fear for the new Berserk. Like I said, though, the trailer animation ain't bad in itself, so I guess it's more a matter of preference at this point. Plus, we've seen only a few short clips so far, which mightn't be representative of the series as a whole.
Anyway, if this is indeed a full anime series, then I'm sure Miura is being consulted in various areas of production. With that in mind, I'm willing to drop any concerns for now and hold judgment until I see the finished product.

I thought the old anime was great. Blood and death and awesome story to boot. The animation wasn't terrible but ya they can do better and I hope they will.I'm sooo curious because right now I love Berserk but the old anime is so bad![]()
