Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

yeah considering it was 1998, I say it wasn't too bad as well. Although if you relied on the old anime only and switched to the manga you'd kind of have a hard time with the transition probably. That's what happened to me until I read the series from chapter 1.

Hearing the soundtrack from the trailers of this new one, I'd think it's quite similar to the old one. I like it.

I wouldn't exactly say it was similar IMO. Hirasawa Susumu's work on it is mostly electronic sounding IMO, and the sample of whatever it is Tomo the Tomo is singing doesn't really sound that way. Though, it's a very small sample size.

In that case, I guess I sort of get what you're saying. Sort of in a vague sense, but I do.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

I'm sooo curious because right now I love Berserk but the old anime is so bad :D
The old anime I thought was excellent, despite its obvious failings. Its biggest flaw, clearly, was the WTF ending, but that aside, the storytelling was top drawer, the music, inspired, and the animation, solid (though it could've been better, admittedly).

You know, looking back, Berserk really was quite unique for its time. Generally, you'd have your sci-fi/mech anime, your feudal era stuff, with its ninja and samurai and whatnot, and your teenage school-based comedy/drama--Berserk was like a breath of fresh air. Its desaturated pallette, in combination with the medieval setting, made for a distinctive and recognisable style rarely seen in anime (plus, it made the blood red stand out amongst all the earthy colours (important for Berserk)).

With all the moe-infested crap of today, the new Berserk could well accomplish something similar. I just hope it avoids the abrupt ending the first suffered because, after all, it is based on an, at presnt, unfinished story.

Ok, it certainly can be seen this way, but nowadays it simply looks too flawed while the general feeling etc. is represented perfectly in the manga.
I don't even have an issue with old styles, I loved Space Battleship Yamato (1978) for example. However the old Beserk anime really tried to avoid any kind of animations at all costs and tried to solve it with cuts of static images. It annoyed me too much to enjoy it.
However, Berserk is great so I really have huge hopes into the new anime project :)

I didn't find it too hard, i just started from the start of the manga after i watch the anime and was like ooo there is griffith as batman.

But so much of the aspotles was left out of the anime. Having Wylad would of been cool just to see guts epic fight.

Fair point. In fact, I didn't deny that the animation had room for improvement--those static sequences annoyed me as much as anyone else--I was defending the series as a whole, since you said the anime was bad.

Still, I wouldn't claim the animation is so bad that it detracts majorly from the series. It has its positives, as I mentioned earlier, and is still very watchable overall.

However, Berserk is great so I really have huge hopes into the new anime project :)
Ditto. Here's hoping.

Yep myself like many here were introduced to Berserk via the anime, and not being exposed to much more than DBZ at the time I found Berserk fricking amazing. The battles, all awesome. The realism of it is just simply exceptional. There is no cliches in Berserk. Miura has this unnatural ability to tell a story with this much unbelievable stuff in a manner you can believe, its why I love it so much.

Anyways as far as I understand this new series is supposed to be more canon than the first and shouldn't end until the manga does, I hope.

But ya the first one transitioned into the ending horribly. Its like "WTF JUST HAPPENED???" I remember that after seeing it. The problem was that they left out so many important things leading up to it and the only clue being Zodd. Whereas in the manga you sort of had the clue that something horrible happened before you even got to the flash back and at that point you were already introduced to numerable supernatural beasts.

No:
-Pukk
-SK
-Monkey with penis tongue monster
-And numerous other things they left out that didn't make the eclipse so "WTF".

So heres to hoping they do it right. :3 can't wait to see how they reanimate the 100 versus 1 fight.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

I actually liked the ending, to be honest. I found it fitting for the translation that they did. They couldn't really have ended it any other way, without introducing a character or two in the last 5 minutes. If you weren't familiar with the manga, you were left with a lot of questions unanswered, which is kinda cool. The first episode you see him as the black swordsman and then at the end of episode 25, you see him walking away. You're left to imagine how he made it out, etc. Plus I believe they had to condense the story to 25 episodes, they were limited.

I also loved the soundtrack. I don't watch any anime really, so I am not one to critique soundtracks, but the music definitely made you feel a certain way at the right moments. There were no corny moments in the anime, which is rare to find.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

Same. I've no problem with 3D animation per se; done properly, it can be just as impressive and effective as its 2D counterpart. It's only when it's used in this way, where they try to integrate it with 2D animation, that it becomes an issue.

I remember one of the earliest attempts at this style--characters were 2D, almost everything else was not. Both sides were relatively well done, yet they meshed very poorly on screen. It felt disjointed, like two independent projects had been squashed together. Moreover, it lacked consistency, with 3D models often being used in place of previously hand-drawn objects, and style-wise, it wasn't much better.

Granted, that was age ago now, and 3D techniques have no doubt improved since then. However, I've seen several anime try something similar in recent past, and there is never a seamless blend (it really breaks immersion when I notice it, too).

That's my fear for the new Berserk. Like I said, though, the trailer animation ain't bad in itself, so I guess it's more a matter of preference at this point. Plus, we've seen only a few short clips so far, which mightn't be representative of the series as a whole.

Anyway, if this is indeed a full anime series, then I'm sure Miura is being consulted in various areas of production. With that in mind, I'm willing to drop any concerns for now and hold judgment until I see the finished product.

Don't forget manpower. Time and effort are expensive, moreso than you'd think.
I agree with this. I loved Advent Children but I hated Ghost in the Shell 2.0, I preferred it with full animation.

Although personally I think so far the little 3D animation that's been shown doesn't look too bad. The slight cell animation look with the crisp art looks like it wont be that bad.

Overall, honestly to tell you the truth I'm not to excited about it. The golden age again and leaf covered Casca seems to imply censoring, doesn't really excite me. Dont get me wrong, it's something to watch and I will but I'm not anticipating it.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

i can only imagen how much more popular berserk will get with this new anime coming out ,also i looked at the clips a few 100s times im guessing its from the start since they got guts fighting the 100 man fight and the first time he saw the behilt, also it got grifith with his new armor guessing the anime already caught up with the manga and we will just have to wait for the air dates

-------------------------
now if they can only do the same with gantz

Yeah you're kinda right with the censorship, but imo that's usually rather affecting nudity/sex than violence (maybe for the US market :P). That's sad enough, but still leaves me some hope that the battles will be as bloody as they should be compared with the manga.

What I much rather disliked was the view of Gatts, it seemed a bit off to me in that scene where he's shown charging at something. Not really the way how I see him, I think the chin/cheeks were weirdly wide.

I really hope it becomes successful, Berserk would absolutely deserve that :)

im guessing its one of those things where the skin is being pull back cause of the speed his moving

also im hoping the sexual contacts aren't cut out like in the last anime ( where casca period got replace with a cut ) hoping it will be somewhat similar to gantz's anime sexual contacts.

Yeah just cutting them out would be really bad x.x
Sadly I don't think that it's the speed pulling back the skin... maybe it's because he has this yelling expression, I hope so at least.

I'ld love to have a good Berserk game for PC but really a good anime would be more than enough :D

If it came down to a choice I'd roll with a new anime series.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Announced

Most Shonen mangas that are transferred into Anime have fillers as they always end up catching the serialization or get very near.
