Discussion Best Arc in Manga (Upto Now)

Now that we're still on hiatus for 1 COMPLETE YEAR and few months, I decided to read the entire manga on one go.

And it struck me how Togashi so easily switches the tone from funny to serious. Easily, one of the best at it. Especially when you get something like the Chimera Ant Arc after GI arc or the Yorknew arc after the Heavens Arena Arc.

It's sad that the hiatus is still indefinite because there is so much of the Hunter X Hunter Universe to explore.

But we have 340 chapters to pour over and I want to ask, which arc did you find the best?

It may be because it had great character development, or had great action or something else.

I think that I like every single arc for very different reasons.
I love the Chimera Ants arc for many of the same reasons I love the Chapter Black arc in Yu Yu Hakusho.
In that arc Togashi ponders identity and what it even means to be human, the cruel side of humanity and the kind side.
It is light and dark that Togashi seems to be obsessed with.

I love the Greed Isalnd arc simply for the sheer detail and thought put into creating the game world and its rules.
Togashi is a mangaka that likes to place rules on situations and characters and see how to can work with them.
Greed Island is an arc that really is detailed and complex I love it for that.

I could go on and on for every single arc. But to choose a favourite I'd say of the dark arcs it would be Chimera Ant but of the more lighter toned arcs it would be a tie of Greed Island and Heaven's Arena.

I believe the Chimera Ant arc is the best, and It's personally my all time favorite arc in Shonen.

Chimera Ant Arc.

It was filled with character development, character progression, interaction, awesome fight, dark yet sad atmosphere and several amazing moments (Palace invasion, Pitou's assault, Rose..and more).

Early HxH is my favourite. Before even all the nen stuff started. Plus, there's lot of Hisoka going berserk.

Kinda hard to say because each arc is really different in terms of theme and tone. So it's really hard to compare.

In terms of the best, I'd say Chimera Ant Arc.

But if we're talking about favorites, mine would be the Hunter Exam arc in the manga, Heaven's Arena arc in the anime.

The arcs I really enjoyed were Greed Island Arc and the Chimera Ants Arc.
So many characters and epic fights. XD

Yorknew arc is very well-written imo. It really showed a huge character development on Kurapika. The theme is awesome and Kurapika's bad-ass chains is just <3
Greed Island arc is very well-written too because it surely is hard to conceptualize every single rules and cards in the game, showed also a great character development for Killua and Gon. And there's Bisuke. <3
Chimera Ant arc is the bomb. You won't see anyone just gettin' KO'ed rather get killed and it's just pure bloodshed.

Actually Togashi gave a very cynical yet true development nature in human beings. As Kite (RIP) once said, the Chimera Ants were like this because they had inherited genetic mindsets of human beings. So, in the end, the human beings WERE THE PROBLEM. And yet, in the end, Mereum's actions were more human-like than most of the real ones and by that, I mean in a good way. The Chimera Ant arc was a very brutal representation of evolution and so, it will be a arc I always treasure no matter how many more gems Togashi makes (fingers crossed!).

Each arc has its flavor, but The ant arc for me is the best.

Hi, first time posting, i was lurking this forum a lot, and started to feel bad about that. :P

On Topic: I Think Chimera Ant Arc, is the best, but it was so controversial at the moment, people were always complaining about it being too long, not having Kurapika and/or Leorio, Hiatuses x Hiatuses, etc. Now we can say it was so brutal, en epic, and all that, but it has some flaws, it’s my personal favorite, along with the Chairman Election arc.

But the best arc in all HxH, i think it’s the Hunter Exam, that’s the reason we all fell in love with the series, were most of the beloved Characters appeared for the first time, I can't think of any flaw on that arc.

But that’s just my opinion.

Yorknew. Has mysticism to it. Gave me the chills just waiting for the next episode. Specially the fights, O man the fights! they werent really long. But it's the kinda short stuff you wanna lick every detail of it coz you know theres not gonna be more of it when its over kinda short.

hard to say : but i would say : york new is the best ... the phantom brigade is just too bad ass ..
the all plot and dev around it is so well done , good theme , good balance between all the characters, nice twists , well thought , well written , with a nice connection to other arcs ( hisoka ) ...it is conventional yet it is not...

the chimera ants arc , is not the best arc ...
it just benefits from the fact that it is THE currently aired arc ( people forget about the rest ) ... also it is much much better in anime than it was in manga ...
big up to the Anime people because the manga was annoying and often boring... it was filled with terrible art and unfinishable and pointless dialogues ....
Now in anime : the art looks as good as before, they also cut big time in the BS talk and useless things so that now , it shines from its qualities : lot of charchter dev , interesting shonen twist , interesting / anti heroe anti manga arc.. it deserves to be indeed praised , it is well done , and now it is actually at all the grandeur of hunter x hunter ....

i concure though , hunter exam was also great , i mean its the begining of the epic journey ...its hard not to shed a tear when watching or reading that part again .. all this innocence and awesomeness , begining of ties a bond to be formed with killua and gon

every arc has its unique flavour and taste, but to me Greed Island was the best not only for the detailed and rich mechanism of the game there, but also for the development kilua and gon went through, they really made huge progress both in taijutsu and aura. Not to mention the battles that took place there, especially the dodge ball against razor ^^.
There's also the election arc, where you get highly clever characters clashing and strategizing on how to reach the chairman position, in fact the whole election was made worthwhile or even funny thanks to Pariston (ging also but not as much).

York Shin for me. I loved the Kurapika development. I also loved the stuff with the Ryodan. Best part of GI and the Chimera Ant arcs for me was everything dealing with Killua's character development as well as the complexity of Mereyem's character, but since Killua's been around for so long, I'm going with York Shin.
