Now I've been kicking around the notion of what makes a Bloodline Expansion more powerful then a Bloodline Limit. The first thing I took into consideration was the Elements and how they relate to one another. The second was to compare different characters with traits that might appear similar. The third was seeing how this all relates back to the Expansion (or Selection) being so revered.
Besides Pain, and I guess ShaRinnegan Madara, having 3 elements at your disposal is something to write home about. The Current Mizukage is able to USE Earth, Fire, and Water. Now on the Element chart, these are all grouped together with Wind and Lightning being the exceptions. The Second Tsuchikage can COMBINE Earth, Wind and Fire. This is tricky, because with Lightening and Water being the only exceptions, technically speaking, this eliminates any perceived weaknesses using the elements chart. Everything is covered!
This being the case, I'm assuming some things here. One thing would be what Bloodline Expansions are possible:
Earth Wind and Fire
Earth Water and Wind
Earth Lightning and Fire
Water Fire and Lightning
Wind Lightning and Water
Using my theory these are the only 3 element combos that can be used to effectively render you weakness free.
A Bloodline limit revolves around specialized chakra. This applies to Yin Yang manipulation and being able to combine 2 elements together.
A Bloodline Expansion revolves around specialized chakra that applies to being able to combine 3 elements together. Possibly with some Yin Yang manipulation involved as well.
Now Muu, and Mizukage differ in that Mizukage has 2 bloodline limits with her 3 elements while Muu has 1 bloodline expansion. Her acid mist and lava type jutsu tell me she is combining Water with Fire, then Water with Earth. (Tsuchikage's Granddaughter uses a similar Lava type technique and uses Water as well as Earth techs) This is interesting because we've seen another jutsu like Mokuton, which also combines Earth and Water. Thus there really is no limit as to what 2 basic elements can be and cannot be combined. What is apparent is that 2 different people combining the same elements can produce different results.
So Limits meaning there is no limit as to what 2 elements have been combined together, and Expansion or Selection meaning a select few elements used in combination to create more powerful jutsu.
Take for example Haku's Ice Element bloodline limit. To expand upon Water and Wind you can combine Lightening or Earth. Frozen Electrocution or Avalanche. With Tsuchikage now, I'm guessing that since Wind makes Fire stronger, combined with the crushing Earth, Incinerating Weight would be the outcome. Even Darui's Storm element, expanded upon would add Wind or Fire to Lightning and Water, creating a Flaming Storm or a Thunder Storm, either way a more powerful outcome.
So really, that explans why Shikaku reacted so adamantly when learning of Muu's powers in relation to the current 3rd Tsuchikage's. This is no laughing matter. Really, nothing should be able to stop this guy, besides the 2nd Mizukage, so here's too looking forward to the latter chapters!!
