This is precisely my idea too. People just assume being able to utilize the "dark" power to the utmost, while Luslec is as far as we know, a towerborn.
I know this dark-light verse and ToG is separate things, but not that unrelated, if Urek's entry into tower is something "no no" acc. to Headon, the opposite of Shiny: Dark things, might be something in the nature of ToG more. This all boils down to the genesis of ToG itself, and I doubt if we ever learn this, SIU may know even explain this even after EoS.

It's hard to imagine Luslec having a connection to Phantaminum. By all appearances by the time Phanta and Urek crashed the tower Luslec would have been incredibly ancient and established. Luslec uses spells meaning something grants him some of his powers but there can be other sources of darkness.

But it's not hard to imagine Arlene having a connection with the OG. (The OG here is darkness itself and not Phanta) Luslec, being her follower, uses her power and lets's assume she's the follower of darkness itself, so she borrows her powers from him. If Phanta can have his cult of followers, it's not that far-fetched to assume that Darkness also had a lot of his followers and a faction was created when Phanta revolted.
