Life Childhood obsessions

As a child... what toys, bands, fads or TV shows were you obsessed with? What things were the ones that you were most focused on when you were a child and that consumed most of the time of your little life?

As for Toys…I remember I loved playing with barbies; the best Christmas present you could give me as a child was a barbie. I loved those dolls and I could spend hours and hours playing with them. In fact, I remember making play dates with my friends to play with our barbies and we could easily spend 5 or 6 hours playing with them and sometimes even longer than that.

Bands…when I was a little girl I remember I liked The New Kids on the Block, and then when I was a bit older (pre-teen) I became a huge fan of The Backstreet Boys. I now realize they weren’t the best bands and that their music wasn’t all that incredible, but back then I was completely sure they were the best music bands in the world.

As for T.V. shows:

As a child of the 80's most of the things I was obsessed with as a child were from that era. Looking back, so much of it was pretty embarrassing, but oh well. What can you do?

Toys - Barbie for sure. Just like you, I remember spending hours playing with these. I also remember my sister cutting the hair of one of my Barbies and getting so mad at her for ruining my toys. Of course she didn't realize it wouldn't grow back, but I knew better. Ah, the joy of siblings.

I also remember *having* to have a Lite Brite. Half the bulbs didn't work, but I still loved it.

Music - I'll admit it... I liked New Kids on the Block. But I was in elementary school, so that's acceptable, right? I didn't know any better! Otherwise, my absolute favorite when I was little was probably Michael Jackson. My mom used to play the Thriller album over and over again and I loved every minute of it.

TV shows - So many! I was a big sucker for those educational shows like 3-2-1 Contact and Reading Rainbow. Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and PeeWee's Playhouse were right up there too. Saved by the Bell was one of my favorites when I got a little bit older. As for cartoons, I remember loving He-Man, She-Ra, Jem and the Holograms, Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, Gummi Bears, Maya the Bee, David the Gnome, Inspector Gadget, and sooooo many others I can't think of right now.

Movies - Besides any Disney movie, I loved all the typical 80's stuff. Ferris Bueller's Day off, The Goonies, Stand By Me, Karate Kid, etc... anything awesomely cheesy was (and still is) win. <3333

When I was a little girl I loved Britney Spears. XD As well as Jennifer Lopez and Justin TImberlake. Yeah... Well, I don't like them anymore, but it's still a good memory.
As for the toys, I loved (and still love xD) stuffed animals, I just adored ponies... I loved having the kid's meal at McDonalds, I loved dolls (Barbie and all the copies of Barbie), the toys from the chocolate eggs, I collected all kinds of things, I loved the Pokeballs with the miniature Pikachu eraser inside and a small disk with a Pokemon on it... I really had it going... xD
I watched all sorts of movies and TV-Shows, I still am a big fan of Disney, especially 'The Lion King', all of the three movies, I loved shows such as 'Married with Children', 'Malcolm' (still like them), I learned English from watching Cartoon Network.
You know, I still can be considered as a kid. xD

Oh, and the most important thing! I was obsessed with listening to music. I loved singing the songs I like with a full force, I recorded the songs I liked on tapes from the radio and made my own music tapes. Me and my friends had a lot of fun recording ourselves on tape, we made our own shows and such. It was really fun watching TV with them, because every time we turned on a music channel, we copied the dance. We also muted the sound from the TV and turned some music on. It was really funny when it looked like the singer was singing the music from the radio. And I still am really obsessed with music!

I used to be obsessed with Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Power Rangers (although my mom forbade me to watch PR). I also wanted to watch WWF (back when WWE had better name <_<), but parents, mostly my mom forbade me as well, although I still was tenacious and tried to watch every chance I got. My dad was more lax about it and let me watch WCW/WWF with him, until my mom caught us. <_<

I loved watching All That (though they abused the reruns) and Kenan and Kel (same too )... so hilarious and so epic. I also used to watch Dexter's Laboratory. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network made me either happy or annoyed as a kid; I loved those two channels. Hey Arnold, Rugrats, and other cartoons (and some shows) whose names I forgot because it's been so long. T_T

As for toys, I had these original Power Rangers figure (Trini, Billy, Jason, Tommy, and Kimberly... never knew why I didn't have Zach and asked Santa for it when I was little, along with White Ranger since I had Green. Santa never delivered. <__<) and loved playing with them. After I finally was allowed to watch WWE, I usually made them wrestle, and after I was 12 or so, made them have sex with each other. The legs on most are broken, but I wouldn't throw them away ever, because they were my close companions. <3

I remember when I broke my Spider-man toy after opening it... yeah, bad idea to make it fly. I cried a bit and was upset, and my mom said she'd buy another one. Either she never delivered on that promise or I broke it again and we said to forget buying that. <_<

Another obsession was going to the library. Not only for books, but I loved the smell of the library, how it smelled "booky" and stuff. Being a kid in the 90s was awesome... had amazing cartoons and great toys!

Oh, and I was obsessed with cheese, I guess, and candy. Ate them any reason I got. Nowadays, I wonder how I'm not dead of a heart attack or diabetes yet, and I also wonder how I'm not fat/overweight or have horrible teeth. Ah, the mysteries of life. <3

When I was a kid, the toy I was obsessed with was Pogs. They were a huge fad to collect in the early 90's. I had several hundred of them. My friends and I didn't even actually play the game because we didn't want to mess our pogs up lol. We just saw who could get the biggest and coolest collection and compared them and showed them off. Kind of like baseball cards.

As for tv shows I was obsessed with, Thundercats was a show I could not miss. I used to get into heated fights with this kid my mom used to babysit on some days. He would want to watch G.I. Joe which was on at the same time as Thundercats. I also used to fight with my sister on Monday nights because I wanted to watch professional wrestling and she wanted to watch MTV.

I think the movies I was most obsessed with were the Indiana Jones series of movies. What little boy wouldn't want to be like Indiana Jones? I used to pretend I was him and play in the woods like I was some kind of adventurer.

I wouldn't say I became obsessed with any music until I was a teenager. As a teenager, I would listen to Eminem over and over again. As a child, I pretty much just listened to whatever my older sister was into at the time, which was usually 90's alternative rock bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Soundgarden.

Toys: any robots I see, I ask my mother to buy that for me. Of course, I was never able to receive one either. >_< damn it.

I drove my family absolutely crazy with TMNT and Sonic as a child. I was also fond of many of the cartoons of the 80s/90s - Thundercats, Transformers, X-Men, Spiderman e.t.c.

It's kind of strange seeing all the pre-teens today copying their pictures of Sonic as I used to, hoping to get praise and causing the adults around them to facepalm at their lack of artistic interest in anything else.

The very first Power Rangers were amazed me when I was still a kid. In fact, I could remember several of the names:

Kimberly (Pterodactyl Pink, if I'm right)
Trinity (Saber-Toothed Tiger Yellow)
Jason (Tyrannosaurus Rex Red)
Tommy (kind of looks like Green Godzilla LOL but he soon changed to White Falcon?)
Billy (Triceratops Blue?)
Zack (I forgot what dinosaur but his was black)

This was a complete obsession of mine back in the days. I even asked my parents once to buy me lots of robots and action figures.

In terms of music, boy bands were very famous like N'Sync, A1 and West Life. They were very famous back then and they hit the top music charts in the Philippines back then.

When I was still a fifth-grader, we used to bring our recorders in school and play the songs of those boy bands.

Toys: Pogs, totally into those at one point. I think I still have my collection some were. Gogo's Crazy Bones was an other obsession. I remember being so proud when I had the whole full set, of the most wanted series. Also action figurines of the most popular cartoon of the moment were a must. Little exeption was Thunderbirds, it wasn't popular among others, but I had every character and every vehichle as a toy.

Films: Star Wars. It came popular again along the remastered versions.

Shows: So many, but I think the biggest ones were Moomin, Sandokan, Thunderbirds and Pokemon.

Games: Pokemon (and TCG), Spyro The Dragon, Super Mario, Ducktales (NES).

General: Dinosaurs. This probaply the biggest obsession along Pokemon. I loved dinos in every form. Toys, cartoon, books, films (Oh I were sooo angry at my mom because she didn't let watch Jurassic Park when it came out). I think I used to know every species by name back then.

Music: Spice Girls

Only taking in account stuff until I was 10 or so.

Toys: stuffed toys. I disliked dolls, so I played house using my bears, raccoons, bunnies... but then, there was that one doll (it was a baby) that I got for Christmas that I hated. Then my mom got me something else for that christmas and kept the doll. She started making dresses and clothings and I fell in love with that ONE doll. And video-games (Snes)

Bands: none. I always liked one song only from every singer out there. I liked my cartoons opening/ending themes.

I wasn't that into TV, actually. Except for Popolocrois, which went on during mornig, everything else I watched in a single go at afternoon during Toonami on Cartoon Network, and similar hours on FoxKids, Nickelodeon, when it was too late for kids to be playing outside

I wasn't really obsessed. Here in Brazil, back in those days, I would be THE nerd if I went around talking about Sakura or Shinzo. And I was over the acceptable age to like Pokemon, so I didn't have any friends who liked those things.

I am more Pokemon obsessed nowadays than when I was a kid, go figure.

When I was a kid I never had anything to do with anything "pink", I played with cars, toy story toys, i was obsessed with stuffed animals. I was a gamer, I was a little kid and I remember playing Halo and my hands couldn't reach every button on the control but I killed the covenant.

I loved Pokemon, Mr. Rogers, Scooby doo, Blues Clues, The Lion king, Spongebob. Haha Toy Story 1

My childhood hero wasn't really all that of a hero, I would get baby powder and smack it all over my face. Put black eyeliner everywhere on my eyes, then get mums red lipstick and smear it all over my mouth. Then get my green monster wig and scream at the top of my lungs tonthe heavens running around screaming "WHY SO SERIOUS?! WHY? WHY?!?"
Yes, my hero was the joker.

Pokemon always stuck with me^^.. I never let it go until I hit 12, then I backed off cause that's when Pokemon started to get pretty crappy.
I was obsessed with carrying a cream pillowcase with pink flowers, it was my daddy's when he was a kid. So back then I couldn't sleep without it, cause it was like being with daddy

ALSO, I was obsessed with oreo cookies haha, could never get enough.
N cake n sweets always made me feel better about everything,
So now, that I'm older I'd eat an Oreo when I feel guilty, happy, sad, awesome haha anything xD

Tommy was white tiger, and Zack was the black mammoth...

There were a few things I was obsessed with...the first was defnitely Zorro...even more since my dad taught me how to draw him when I was like 7...all my drawings were of Zorro...

Then after Zorro, came Transformers and Power Rangers...oh my, those were the times...
Let's see...I loved playing on PC...video games like Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter 2, especially the latter...I think we screwed up 4 keyboards playing just that one game...

Reading...I read Winnetou like 10 or 11 times, and the other great book by Cooper...the one that contained that Last Mohican story...I wanted to be winnetou amongst other people and I had headbands with dove feathers pointing out from it and pieces of wood with some black and white markings to symbolize his gun...

I think that's kinda it, because my other activities were tennis, tennis and more tennis

Pokemon and I was really really crazy about Pokemon.
I will make sure, no matter what, to watch the weekly episode.
I will make sure, no matter what, to save up enough to purchase the CD when it came out.
Ah..those were the days, when Blu-Ray didn't exist and I was crazy about CDs, I would plan a schedule to rewatch my Pokemon or a schedule for a non stop Pokemon marathon on teh cd player

Oh and mask rider, I remember how I used to act like I was one.
Transforming and doing the running, punching around...and occasionally looking for a fight with the other mask rider fan in my school. Ahahaha.

I'm also a fan of power rangers back then, a big one too.
Like Pokemon, I'll never miss a single episode .
My favorite was Dino Thunder and as you can see from my username..I was watching it the time I came on the internet, and the name zeltrax stayed with me forever

Not really playing toys when I was young..I spent most of my time in front of the television and on the playstation 1. On the television, I have cable(in my country) so I get access to Disney, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, I'm sure that's where I built my english foundation and I keep watching the cartoons, always switching channel here and there.
The one that I can remember the most and my favorite cartoon was Lilo and Stitch the movies, and the series. It was so touching that I remember crying once and it was a great classic, up till now. "Ohana means family and family means no one get left behind".
Playstation 1 was great, Tomba! and Tomba 2! introduced me to rpgs and final fantasy 7 was inspiring(not that I was really inspired..I was still young.)
Ah..those were the days.
