Re: Kodansha and Crunchyroll to Simulpub 12 Series to 170 Countries
The orientation actually isn't wrong there. Having white space in the middle is something the artist usually does, not something VIZ or Crunchyroll adds in. The artist must have just drawn in where the white space would usually be for both pages, which looks okay in the magazine because of the spine but looks really bad when you're reading it online (hence why I prefer reading it one page at a time, but then Crunchyroll screws up with spreads...). The incomplete chapter is totally Crunchyroll's fault though, and that's kind of a big deal. Glad I cancelled my subscription :P
Yeah, no. It's because of how CR laid out the pages. Unless it's a double spread, the white would be at the spine.
Take this for example.
1-2
3-4
If the cover page for the chapter started on the left, then the orientation for all the other pages would have been correct.
Viz knows this, so in the issues of Jump, they put in filler pages advertising manga or a summary page to ensure the correct orientation is maintained and we don't have stupid looking pages.
Kodansha's graphic novels also have it correctly oriented. I only found one oddly placed page in all of the digital stuff I bought from them.
Don't get me wrong, I know some authors do draw single pages onto the spine, but these are most definitely not instances of that.
Do you really mean to tell me that the author had intended to leave the white space at the EDGE and draw to the spine? That makes no sense.
Here's how I KNOW they know about proper orientation. Chapter 85 of Yamada-kun (which was fixed recently) has a blank white page on the right to ensure proper orientation throughout the chapter.
