Hey everyone. Decided to do a one off review of Naruto (though it may be more if I get some good feedback), even if it's a few days after the chapter. I did one or two AGES ago, and they sucked. Hopefully this one will be better. Will just write my feelings on this chapter without stop till the end. Oh, one last thing. I tend not to read the huge threads here discussing the latest chapter, so some of my thoughts may seem old. Cheers! :P
One other thing! No pictures. Was too lazy, plus I consider Naruto to be high literature >_>, and you don't need pics to review high lit. My excuse and I'm sticking to it :P.
/me runs
/me comes back Also pics take too long and I am pretty busy writing my book (which includes a version of the Samurai, so this chap interested even more).
First, my advice to you.
Trust in the force Luke
Trust in the Kishimoto fans
1. Danzou uses wind!
Danzou is a pretty interesting character. As was revealed in the last chapter, he has the sharigan. There were a few things that popped into my mind when this was showed.
1. How did he get it?
Well, during the Uchiha slaughter of course. Loads of dead bodies hanging around, ripe for the picking of someone clever enough. Let's not forget that eye transplants seem a relatively simple thing, if Rin is anything to go by. Sure, she may have been the greatest healer the village has ever seen, but I personally think she was just a normal healer, and that anyone could have done it. So yes, I don't believe Danzo is Madara. There are a few other reasons, but
2. Was he a hypocrite?
As we know Danzou was the mastermind of the Uchiha slaughter, believing that they interferred with the stability of the village, and that they were too powerful to simply ignore. This does not mean he is a hypocrite though, for his hatred was not for the sharigan itself, but instead the clan which carried it. So no, my answer to my first question was that he is not a hypocrite.
2. Snake in the garden *whistles*
Just a note that Kakashi trusts Sai. This in my opinion made Kakashi an even cooler character. One thing that has been unclear in the manga was Kakashi's personal feelings on Sasuke's betrayel, and the only thing we really had to go on was that deadly look he gave when picking up Naruto after his battle with Sasuke. Well, this chapter makes it more clear. In Kakashi's opinion, Sai has earned his trust simply by being a member of team 7. Let's not forget that Kakashi understands more than most in the ninja world about the rules that bind them. The rules that bind Sai. Let's also not forget that he threw away those rules when Rin was taken prisoner, and no longer follows them. As shown by his disobedience of the almost Hokage, Kakashi doesn't give a damn about the rules any more than Naruto. He is just smarter in dealing with them. So yes, Kakashi will do whatever he can to save his student Sasuke. His dedication is just as strong as Naruto's, and the fact that he doesn't get wispy eyed every few chapters like Naruto only makes that dedication more mature. Though I think Naruto truly understands now that saving Sasuke is simply more than saying the words.
3. Damn Danzou, how many enemies do you have?
Your own village wants a 16 year old kid to be Hokage, and before you are even confirmed during the Kage 'moot' (google ASoIaF :P) people from villages we have never seen want to kill you. Seriously, does this guy thinks he can continue to rule at a state of power through brute force? I compare it to America under the Bush doctrine (and no I am not a raving mad Bush hater). Basically this idea that your enemies can only be killed will only mean endless war. Only through dialogue can peace and stability be truly achieved. Well, thats not exactly true, but it's better than the endless war option. Some people like Danzou think this is a sign of weakness. It is not! Nor is it compassion for the enemy. It is simply the recognization of the fact that killing all of your enemies is a damn hard thing to do, and that while it may be hard to swallow, talking to them may get more results.
I really like how Kishimoto is really delving into ideas of peace, and war. It is a bit simplistic at times, but it is still quite surprising from a shounen fighting manga.
4.What does Karin feel in the Samurai?
Just a quick note. All living things have chakra. The question is what does she sense in the Samurai exactly. No doubt they have a different chakra of their own, unless they are simply ninja in armor, and I doubt that. They are also a power to be reckoned with.
5. Like the old days. You know, back in the first few chapters
Another quick note. When was the last time we saw Kakashi just use the sharigan without going all mangekyou on our asses. In this manga, I think we have seen a return to the basic ninja skills we started off with. Well, maybe not that, but with characters like Kakashi, Killer Bee, Naruto, Danzou, and the Samurai, I think that for the first time since the Zabuza fight, we are going to see some real ninja action. No more eternal life, and destruction of village jutsus for a while. At least I hope so. Madara is still running around somewhere, doing Madara things, thinking Madara thoughts. Then again in that flashback of Madara and the First Hokage, we saw them fight pretty normally too. I think Kishi has recognized his mistake of thinking what his fans wanted was over the top DBZ style battles, and instead returned to what we ('we' being the Japanese buying the manga weekly right :P) truly want, and that is old fashion taijutsu, regular elemental ass kicking.
Damn that was a long quick note.
6. Naruto a proud sensei???? :/
I loved the moment between Naruto and Konohamaru. I guess those two really have come a long way together. I still remember the first meeting of the brat who broke in on the other brat's meeting with the Third. Also love the fact that Kakashi notices this change, and gives a smile. One last thing to note, I guess the Oodama Rasengan really is just a big ass rasengan if Konohamaru can learn it.
7. There is a clan in the village that let their dogs run free, so watch what you step on!
Just a note that Karui seems to actually care about what she did to Naruto, and that he did have an effect on her. At least if Omoi was right.
8. Seriously Kishi, stop!
Stop making your women characters so foolish. There once was a time when they kicked ass, that time being part 1. Now they are a bunch of fools, except for Sakura's and the old lady against Spiderman. Believe it or not, your fans can stand a woman who is both strong, and serious. Lets see, there were Asuma's last words to Ino, something about finding a husband. The fifth Tsunade, even though she kicked ass in part 1, relied on a man (16 year old Naruto) to save the village even though it was HER job. Lets not forget Konan, who was shown to be quite the weakest member of that trio, and as a member of Akatsuki did absolutely nothing of importance.
Now that I let that little rant out of me, I do enjoy this particular scene between the Godaime of the Mist, and her swordsmen. As I did the last time they did it. It's funny, though Kishi seems to be trying a bit too hard or maybe thats just how it could only be translated. Okay, okay, I am a hypocrite. Well, I never claimed to be a feminist. Still, some strong women with strong minds would be nice in this world. I also like the info we got on the Mist's last Mizukage. It seems he was the reason for that village's cruelty. I think we may have another Zabuza in Ao, even if he seems pretty nice right now. Also this may be obvious, but yeah, the last Mizukage was definitely Madara.
9. YES! FINALLY!
After ages, since the beginning of the manga, some of us have wondered if we would ever see Samurai again besides that little incident with...ZABUZA...seriously, that guy keeps coming up in my thoughts when I read through this chapter...anyway we finally get to see Samurai. I personally can't wait to see their powers, and I am not going to try to guess what they can do, except that they are no doubt powerful.
5/5
My thoughts on this chapter.
This chapter was amazing simply because of the level of plots it held. From Sasuke to Naruto, and the Kages to learning about Samurai, this chapter shows that Kishi-sama can indeed write more than 2 plots per chapter when he feels like it. I prefer this style over focusing on a few characters, which seems to simple for a manga this epic to me. Multiple PoVs wind most days of the week for me. I am looking forward to seeing more of the Samurai, and maybe some history of the Land of Iron.
Also this brings up another thing. HAVE FAITH IN KISHIMOTO.
Various times we as fans have lost faith in the Master. Well, I say lets have faith. When Naruto gets his ass kicked for no damn reason, I was pissed too. But I have faith that Kishi had it happen for a really good reason. As in note that Naruto is now wearing bandages similar to Danzou. Some mistaken identity perhaps? As in him being confirmed the Hokage by the other kages instead? Who knows with Kishi, but I do have faith that he is now 100% in control of this story, and that he had Naruto beaten for simply more than giving him respect in the eyes of the Lightning ninjas. I also truly believe we are going to see the type of non DBZ ninja action we have been waiting for.
So to all the fans of Naruto, I say simply be patient. Kishi created this story, Kishi writes this story, so Kishi knows damn well where he is taking it.
Thanks for reading this review, and cheers!
