Question Danzou and Shisui WTF moment

Itachi stated that Danzou took one of Shisui's eye. Can someone explain me how in the hell is that posiible? Shisui being probably best Uchiha alive atm apart from Itachi (or even better we will never know) so how in the hell was Danzou able to best him? That's kinda WTF in my book.
