Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

I'm not surprised.

Look, whether we like it or not, manga is an industry. If you can't make your deadlines - and btw, Square has given Hoshino tremendous leeway - you will be dropped.

I just want Hoshino to get another job and rediscover her love of drawing later. Honestly - the art and story have both gotten really bad as of late. The pacing that was present earlier on is gone. They mystery of the 14th has been choppily revealed, way too fast. We have Kanda leave the Order, go back, leave the Order, and now go back again. There's not a lot of continuity right now. It's a frustrating read because the original interesting plot appears to have been forgotten.

Hey so...
http://adgmblog.tumblr.com/post/44520393267/due-to-ms-hoshinos-progressing-illness-d-gray whats this?
:8C. I thought it was only a hiatus?
I need evidence
You know, we have two very reliable people in the forum that have been bringing information for years to us. Oberon and Zerocmd. None posted about any cancelattion.

We have at least 3 or 4 members here that know japanese and keep checking the DGM posts, members that gave us great translations of scripts in the past. And one of them already translated that image and the 2ch post about DGM. No cancelation mentioned in both.

Giving attention to a nobody that copy and post made up rumours is irritating.

---------- Post added at 02:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 AM ----------

And let me finish with any possible doubt now.

Our mod Sai_the_Shaman aka the translator of more than 100 chapters of Shin Prince of Tennis (another series of SQ Jump), got his issue of SQ Jump and said that:
THERE IS NO CANCELATION MENTIONED ANYWHERE.

DGM is just on a break.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

For real, I didn't reblog that when it came around, because what a dud. It made me wonder, though, so I shot a message at verduister because it looked like no one else was questioning it at first, and maybe I'm nuts. Then Anike came around and I started to shoot messages around to see how reliable this random person on dA was. Going by what I saw, not very. :U Then again, I'm predisposed to be skeptical of nearly anything coming out of dA after some bad experiences.

Also, I personally loved the art from the montage of memories, and I hope it sticks around for a little longer than just the end of a chapter! I will wait however long it takes to stick it out with DGM! I'm pretty sure everyone what works with Hoshino is there for her as an external force that pushes her to her limits, but keeps her from going too far, especially since it seems to me that she works very closely with her editor! ;v;

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

Random-noob-question here...

Does the "hiatus rumors" means that there will be no new DGM chapter for the month of March?
I'm kinda left out with the updates here in the forum... sorry :-_-
Feel free to ask anything you don't understand. We'll be more than happy to guide you.

To be on the safe side, just don't expect a DGM at the end of March (a.k.a. Don't get your hopes up too much). The publisher of JumpSQ does not know when Hoshino will be ready to resume her work, which is due to several contributing factors that have been mentioned in this thread so far. (I don't think her arthritis is the sole reason...)

So we as a fan-base cant be concerned if something bad will happen to her work at Jump ?

Also for those that might like > my collection of DGM :D
Well said. We're all fans here. ^^; Even the ones, who can be a bit impatient.

As for your collection,... *thumbs up* All lined up and waiting silently for #24. Mine is scattered everywhere in my room combined with other manga, but I think I have every volume up to the current released one. Was tempted on getting the Noche art book, but it would be nice if Viz published the DGM novels. ^___^ Wish I could organize all my manga as neat as yours.

I think it's probably safe to assume there are many mangaka with arthritic hands/fingers or other hand problems like carpal tunnel syndrome. Not to say her condition isn't a big deal, but it's common sense to assume that plenty of mangaka have similar repetitive strain injuries due to their work.
Correct. It is commons sense. All mangaka are human and are able to be affected by hand/wrists problems. Hoshino is no exception to this rule.

I'm use to mangaka putting their stories on hold, but the usual reasons are for either severe health problems (so bad that they can't draw anymore) or they don't know how to finish their stories (i.e. Yukiru Sugisaki is a prime poster child for this----which is sad). Then, of course, we have mangaka, who just rush their endings when they know they're being axed by their parent publication leaving said manga far from finished.

Before 2008 and knowing the world of DGM, I've only read about Hoshino once, which is when she was in trouble for that "plagiarism" incident. I was really unsure of her as a mangaka at that time. After following DGM post-2008, I came to respect her numerous amount of breaks once I knew why she had these breaks. Other mangaka would take a month off if they needed it, but that's after a long period of time. Hoshino, despite her own pain, she keeps going on a periodic pattern per year. Even if she takes these breaks, she doesn't throw in the towel like other mangaka, who can't finish their stories properly. She's like a real life Allen Walker, who doesn't stop walking. (Corny as that probably sounds....)

I'm just glad Hoshino is not like Yukiru-sensei. Yukiru-sensei's "hiatus" of D.N. Angel is crazy... Her 1,001 Knights manga is probably going to share that fate if she keeps going on like this. =,=; Asukaなんだよ!?

Super thanks for doing the double-check, because the photo isn't a good quality so a lot of the kanji are hard to see. I put my faith/trust in verd's words before a Tumblr account owner, who's not familiar with the language.

And to triple back this all up, this notice's title is: 一時休載のお知らせ (Literal: "Brief non-appearance in print notification")

Some of the words for cancellation are: 取止め, 取り止め, お流れ, 帳消し
What we hope to never see: どたキャン (Dotakan = last minute cancellation)

None of these appear in the photo, as far as I can see. Edit: Ditto for 2ch, which is why there's no need to panic.

Well, not to be a cynic, but her not shelving the series for long probably has more to do with the money she gets paid per page. Creating manga is an art-form, but it's also a job. If Shueisha is fine with the current arrangement, so is she, and she has no reason to change that. The be-all, end-all thing here is whether it still sells or not. That's it.

I know this, my concern is not that shes canceled now, but that the publishers will lose their patience.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

Has anyone mentioned that a project Hoshino was working on last year will be appearing in Weekly Young Jump and Miracle Jump in April yet? It's the 2nd last paragraph in the picture.

Also, again confirming that DGM is just on hiatus and not being cancelled.

I got no clue, DGM kinda dropped from grace ever since the latter hiatusses in WSJ, it moved to SQ but never gained much fanbase there. Tbh people who have a subscription to WSJ dont have to have SQ. Also SQ has its own manga with a special here and there by a WSJ author.
Not just that but many people read OP Naruto and Bleach. Then take the other series as a extra to them. Its not like people moved from buying WSJ to SQ just for DGM.
In essence it makes DGM a filler for any magazine. Sadly.
And with all the breaks and hiatuses it doesn't do it any good, so id understand if Hoshino feels like DGM has less priority and do other work while now and then releasing a chapter of DGM.

*cough* I actually did get a subscription to SQ just for DGM, hoping Ao no Exorcist, Tegami Bachi, Ultimo and Claymore will even things out, but it didn't. :/

IIn essence it makes DGM a filler for any magazine. Sadly.
Only because of it's current pacing...

That's a good point, though I feel that DGM had probably been a bit more Seinen than Shonen at its core anyway, what with it's darker themes, depressing story lines and the painful sorts of injuries that tend to crop up (main example: Tyki grabbing Allen's heart). There's also a possibility that with her sickness and all, her outlook on life hasn't been all that swell so it might have been easier for her to do some Seinen?

Hey I want to say thank you my best friend and I where really worried about this we LOVE DGM and would have been really devastated if it ended here and everywhere else was telling us it was, but I found what you all put here and it really helped us out.

Thank you so very much!

All her projects are a job. Her commission by Sunrise is a job. Her Miracle Jump cover (and maybe one-shot?) is a job. So, we know she's still busy while being on this DGM hiatus. Shueisha understands her situation very well, otherwise, we wouldn't be seeing this lovely hiatus note. It's a good thing one of her side jobs is within Shueisha's territory so they know she hasn't gone MIA. I have some faith in the publisher and the Japanese fanbase. They put more pressure on mangakas in the more popular Weekly Shounen Jump, anyways.

Yeah, the Miracle Jump cover was mentioned, but not this Weekly Young Jump thing. Thanks for letting us know. ^_^ Now, it's two Jump things for Hoshino to take care of.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

Hello all. I've been stalking this site for... a long, long while now (Because it's awesome and stuff~). Seeing that DGM is going to continue on it's hiatus I decided to finally make an account so that I could have people to talk about DGM while I wait patiently for the next chapter. x3 I really look forward to having some nice discussions about this series since it's my favorite manga. I used to be on a different site's forums for DGM before they were hacked and stopped having a forum. I would constantly try and help people understand DGM to the best of my abilities, because I know that the manga got a bit confusing during the Alma arc. Anyway, now I finally got the courage to make an account and be able to talk with you all. x3 I truly see this forums as an awesome place to discuss DGM. The other site I was on wasn't as... well... sophisticated as here.

ps: tgirl... you're pretty awesome. lol x3 Always defending DGM, and being so patient with the series as well as people.

yayyyy that's new for me! at least we'll have something from Hoshino, I think that's why they dont know certainly when the next chapter will be out... Do u know which issue of Weekly Young Jump will Hoshino's project be appearing? Im really waiting and excited for it :D

And about the hiatus, well, I think that we all know that mangaka is a job, so, just like another jobs, people can stop "working" or just get some breaks, the difference is that there's a lot of press ion from the "fans" on her, I've even saw people saying she was being disrespectful and there's nothing to it O_O as a DGM fan i'm here to support her, even when the series is on hiatus, because if you are a truly fan you cant stand by her just on the good times.

It's one of the best-selling series in SQ, it isn't "filler". Shueisha obviously profits from serializing DGM, even like this.

Gaining fans is tricky. DGM's anime ended 4+ years ago, it started taking breaks and then got moved to a relatively new magazine. How exactly was it going to gain fans? It goes against conventional thought that it wouldn't lose some. However, fans of the series did buy the magazine. SQ's circulation numbers don't come close to WSJ's, but fans of Claymore, Rosario + Vampire, DGM, and Prince of Tennis are what made SQ a success for the most part and those all started in other magazines (WSJ and Monthly Shounen Jump). The majority of people who read WSJ don't have subscriptions anyway.

A Shounen series can be dark and depressing, but that doesn't make it a Seinen. That has more to do with what magazine it runs in. Not just in the sense of it's demographic, but also the theme of the magazine. WSJ's is "Friendship, Effort, Victory", and series in it tend to have a certain style, with a few exceptions (Death Note for instance). But I will say that the mood to DGM has changed a bit since moving to SQ, but SQ is a different magazine, with an older readership...but still Shounen. Miracle Jump is supposed to be a mix of Shounen and Seinen, series that blend together with SciFi and Fantasy settings, so it could be either or. However, Young Jump is definitely a Seinen magazine. So I'll be interested to see what comes of that.

I didn't disagree. I guess my post was in response to what you deemed "corny". :XD There is something to be said about maintaining a commitment though. I think the frustration is just compounded by her not releasing the series regularly and with a similar amount of pages. That this isn't only about her having hand problems, but her choosing to work on something else. That's her prerogative though, tons of mangaka do what she does. Some even have multiple series in different magazines. But most don't have a supposed ailment that impairs his/her work and then chooses to do other things instead. I think that's what people react to. Personally, I don't get invested enough to get emotional over it. I still like reading DGM, and will take what is given (thought I haven't read the last two chapters on purpose I guess :XD).

! Sorry, the project is only going to be in Miracle Jump -- which is actually a special edition of Young Jump -- that will be out later in April.

I had to assume what I did because the picture was a bit hard to make out, but I found the entire text online:

When I tried to dig up some info from the Miracle Jump site, there was only news about that cover, but the discussion on the site that the text is from makes it sound like it's an actual new story. I hope that's true.

Also, they've found that DGM vol 24 will be out on the 2nd of May (jap link), if anyone hasn't brought that up yet.

Actually Miracle Jump is a separate magazine now. It started as a replacement for Monthly Young Jump, which started as a special for the Weekly magazine. It failed, but they created Miracle Jump to replace it. It only comes out every other month though.
