Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

I saw it a while ago from someone's tumblr user. According to my horrible memory, it was from Hoshino's high school yearbook.
Okay, found the translation
Source: Kimoi-yarou@tumblr and amaehonne@tumblr

^Above says this person graduated from the same school as Katsura Hoshino, and drew and left a message in her anniversary booklet. She/He bought the booklet when it came out and found her message in it!! Something like that.

The actual message is something along the lines of “We’ve become adults already but we haven’t changed, have we? Congrats of becoming 20 years old!” Blah blah blah my Japanese is pretty bad..
There is nothing about the manga, unfortunately.

First we have kinda poetic paragraph about rice fields, summer colours and how Hoshino liked studying there.

Then she writes that it’s been 15 years since graduation and then she wonders whether she’s changed, she quotes her Sensei–she asked him and he said that ‘As usual she was on the rice fields’ (something like that).

Then she writes how thankful she is that even though, while growing up she changed her surroundings/locality a lot, they (the school/teachers I believe) have been there unchanged (for her/for students).

She says that this school she graduated from is irreplaceable (why is there a kanji for a willow 楊, kill me for I don’t know)/she would never change it. And the last bits: some thank yous, some congratulations on 20th anniversary, “don’t ever change Akira! (I think by 明中 she means Akira publisher – like a school/local newspaper). The end.”

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

when...damn it...when....when will she return to draw DGM again... its a whole freaking year of hiatus... no update on her health status which could give us slight hints when she could have appear again...and soo many mangas are ending or are about to end soon....they should release info if she will even come back to drawing DGM or will she abondon it for good... since im little worried that after such long absence she might lose the style of characters drawing ;/

I just dont remember much from the series anymore at this point and will need to refresh it some day when we will get info of her return...many fans are waiting and waiting... but there is a limit of how long one can wait for something.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

I think drawing the characters consistently really isn't an issue since the are style has changed about 6 times since the start of the manga. The only thing I'm frustrated with is how she find's the energy to do some one shots but not d.grayman which probably should be her priority. I understand that she is sick but at the same time it's a little neglectful the way she is treating D.grayman. I understand she is sick and I respect that she needs time to recover and it's totally understandable if she can't draw because of her condition but if she can't draw because of it she really shouldn't be doing any work than.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

-About the oneshot: It had been delayed for over a year before its actual published in Miracle Jump. I remember there was somekind of 'announcement' somewhere during first months of 2012, which never came after that.
-About the character design for Valvrave (which was planned in 2011): From what has been released (around more than 20), half of them were sketches, half of them got lined, only one had toned. Two illustrations were done digitally.
There were also a lot of DGM illustrations during her breaks and hiatus (like the one with Lavi, Allen, Johnny and Kanda in it, the volume 24 cover and poster). However, sometimes I wish people just understand that two or three illustrations/ tons of sketches and a one-shot are not equal to having a series serialized, especially something with main art style like DGM....

Is this the longest hiatus she has taken? I don't think Hoshino has any intention of abandoning D.Gray-man or the publishing company would have said something by now. She did release the vol. 24 quite recently, right? Did it have any author comments on supporting the series?

It would be really nice if she could use this time to release another one of her reverse novels, I'm assuming it won't be too trouble for her since she doesn't have to draw as much.

Re: DGM Hang Out Thread - Part 1

People talk as if Hoshino was self-publishing or her publisher has no input here. A publisher and editors that let you do whatever you want would be a dream for a writer/comic artist I imagine (although you kind of need good editors), but I don't think such a thing exists (unless you self-publish). Seems more to me like they push her to do whatever bits of work she can handle, all of which they benefit from. They even had her judge a contest after all.

It's not at her decision whether to have another reverse book or not.

Hoshino doesn't write the reverse novels, another author writes them, Hoshino just provides a few pages of artwork for the novels.

Speaking of the Reverse novels tho, if they eventually plan to release another one I hope it'll be a lot longer than the last one they released..it's so tiny compared the previous novels that it looks weird on the shelf ...and it was even more expensive than the other ones iirc :s lol
