This isn't really a hiatus, but one of the first manga I ever read was Millennium Snow which had a 10+ year gap. It basically "ended" in 2002 so the author (Bisco Hatori) could do Ouran Host Club. I was so angry at Host Club because of that and refused to read or watch it. Then, Millennium Snow came back in 2013 so a decade+ gap! Oddly enough, I tried to read it and just didn't like it, and in the mean time I figured out that Host Club is actually really good. So, maybe the decision to do Host Club instead of MS was a good one.
Anyway, if I waited 10+ years for Millennium Snow I can hold out hope that DGM will make a similar return and hopefully in less than 10 years. You never know what will happen and 2 years isn't an insane amount of time for a hiatus. There have been several mangas that had 2-3 year gaps before as well as a few that have had irregular publication schedules with many hiatuses that are ongoing since the 80s.

On another note, I am reading Tokyo Ghoul right now and sometimes Kaneki is basically Allen to me. I don't know if that is because they actually look alike or if it is because I am programmed to look for Allen. I mean, I know its mostly the hair, but sometimes even the outfits/smiles look alike.

Maybe throughout this entire hiatus hoshino-sensei is actually doing the rest of the chapters up to the ending of DGM....just a thought?

Well...I have been waiting X for like my whole reading manga life so...I can endure DGM's hiatus....

On another note, I am reading Tokyo Ghoul right now and sometimes Kaneki is basically Allen to me. I don't know if that is because they actually look alike or if it is because I am programmed to look for Allen. I mean, I know its mostly the hair, but sometimes even the outfits/smiles look alike.

Those two are the defining of "white-haired boy with suffering"

I don't think so. DGM seems to be in half of its way and with its really thick plot, it would take a lot more than 1-2 years to finish normally, let along Hoshino's health status...

Regarding X/Clamp, I heard TRC is starting up again with a sequel though.

That's funny that you mentioned that DGM might be 1/2 through.
I've been thinking about DGM and the hiatus, because there's been many times since that I've "quit/paused" anime/manga for RL school reasons, but for some reason I'll always come back to check if DGM finally updated.

I finally realized that after 218 chapters, we still don't know almost anything about Allen.
And also:
-Bookman?
-What are the Noah?
- What is Innocence Really?
-Central?
-What is Timcampy?
-Is Cross dead? if not, where is he?
-Who is Mana?
-Who is Nea?
-What did the prophecies mean?
-What is Allen's eye?
Etc. Etc. I'd even say that of the main characters, the only ones we actually know the backstories for are now Lenalee and Kanda.
I'm assuming that Bookman and Allen's backstory are extremely related, so that if we learn one, it'll reveal/lead to the other.

But that's a lot of mysteries! I think for me one of the reasons that I just can't let go of DGM is that there is so much that we don't know. Even though we are possibly half-way through, I feel like we haven't even learned what the main conflict/story is actually about since we don't know who Allen and who the Millienum Earl even is, and now Central is becoming increasingly antagonistic. It's funny because DGM, in the very first chapters, started out with the simple/misleading premise of a monster-of-the-week shounen about a boy with super powers who joins the holy-good guys/Order to defeat the bad-demon guys/Akuma/Noah thereby saving souls.

I seriously can't think of another manga/anime, not including end-of-story plot twists, where the main conflict has been dangled in front of us with so many hints, but kept a mystery. If I'd say it's getting even more mysterious with time.

And it doesn't help that Ch. 218 ended on a huge cliff hanger.

I highly recommend the webtoon, Black Haze, for that dangled mystery effect, plus, we don't know exactly what the main character exactly is. He also suffers from memory loss/amnesia.

I second recommend the josei, Bokura no Kiseki, for a continuous "who's who" mystery and reincarnated memory-related themes.

I thirdly recommend the shounen, Karakuri Circus, because its MC has a "special arm" just like Allen and there's more to him than what meets the eye in the beginning. The story revolves around a circus theme so it will easily remind anyone of DGM. I do warn though that there is a little bit of stupid fanservice (as it's a shounen, after all, but on the better side). Also, try to avoid reading the mangaka's pervertive gag talk if you ever come across it as well. =,=;

(A lot of other manga/manhwa I could recommend, but their themes don't really give off the DGM vibe to me.)

I fourthly will admit, as Iownamovingcastle said, that I have been looking for Allen in Oz from Pandora Hearts. >___< It can't be helped! Ahhhhh...

Some suggestions to put out there while we still wait for D.Gray-Man's return. Definitely looking forward to the return of Tsubasa:RC!! ^o^ And I haven't had time to work on my DGM fanfiction.... ;__; Sorry....

The saddest part is that this year is the 10th anniversary and without DGM, there is no celebration.

So, the first chapter DGM in SQ was out in November 2009. Today is October 2014.
Do you think SQ remember that DGM have 5th anniversary this year?

That date isn't important. What counts is the 2004 may date.
Just look at The prince of tennis, this last issue celebrated its 15th anneversary, from when it started on WSJ.
DGM also started on WSJ.

Thanks for your information. I analyze your words and I see that the first chapter The prince of tennis was out in July 1999. BUT only now this manga have anniversary.
Maybe they changed the month but don't changed the year when mangaka go to other magazine?

Yeah I am kind of sad nothing happened for its anniversary. A tweet, a new drawing, even an ad to buy it I would have taken anything as a good sign lol.
